The largest of the Tamiya Aircraft Series features some of the most famous fighter aircraft in the world. This scale allows even the cockpit and engine details to be accurately reproduced to incredible detail. The legendary U.S. Air Force P-51D Mustang originally used a Hamilton Standard propeller, but shortages forced the U.S. to fit some models with an Aero products propeller. They were renamed the P-51K and mainly assigned to the Asian Theatre. The P-51K and P-51D possessed both speed and the ability to fly long-range missions, and could serve as bomber escorts or attack enemy ground installations themselves. In addition to the fighter role, some P-51s were equipped with cameras and used as reconnaissance aircraft. Such aircraft were based on the P-51D and designated the F-6D. The model is 308mm long and 354mm wide and there are three sets or markings to recreate aircraft from the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Burma fighter groups. The crew figures are in seated and standing poses. Tamiya has a reputation for producing some of the finest assembly kits available and the 1/32 scale Aircraft Series is no different. Many of the aircraft feature materials such as rubber tires and metal parts which add even more realism and durability. These large aircraft once finished will be a dominant and impressive part of any modellers collection. Tamiyas famous assembly instructions are designed to be understood by both the experienced modeller and hobby newcomer. These assembly kits require paint and modelling glue available separately.
