Tamiya 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I
The Spitfire is the most famous British fighter aircraft in history. It became a symbol of freedom during the summer months of 1940 by helping to defeat the German air attacks during the Battle of Britain. It was the highest performing Allied aircraft in 1940. The crowds at the 1936 RAF Display at Hendon had a first glimpse of the prototype Spitfire in the New Types Park but it was not until August 1938 that production Spitfires began to enter service. By the outbreak of war, a year later, nine squadrons were equipped. In spite of vigorous demands from the France the Commander in Chief of Fighter Command refused to send any Spitfires to France during the German Blitzkrieg of 1940. The wisdom of that decision was clearly shown. By July 1940 RAF Fighter Command had nineteen Spitfire MkI squadrons available.Once the RAF modified their tactics to properly counter the Luftwaffe, the Spitfire MkI proved to be the only British fighter capable of meeting the Messerschmitt Bf109E on equal terms. Often the outcome of a combat depended more on the quality of the pilot than his aircraft.Further improvements in performance were made by fitting new type propellers, known as constant speed units, and modifying the Merlin engine to run on 100 octane fuel.

Precisely engineered for a perfect fit. The model kit comes with a small fret of photo-etch so that you dont need to purchase an expensive aftermarket set. My only complaint is with how the main landing gear struts attached. Down is your only option. They are more than sturdy, however its extremely difficult to build the model with gear up. Possible but difficult.

Brilliant model, the spitfire is my favourite. But always a good selection of other models to choose from too. Also great value!

Excellent plastics with no die marks and perfect fit. Etch is well done without getting silly like some of the Eduard sets available. Screen masks need cutting out but work well. The pairs list is extensive some require less that 1mm2 within the cockpit. so think before you buy.
An excellent model. There are lots of options in the box for various iterations of the Mk I. Different wind screens for example. The landing gear is engineered to be almost mistake proof to get into the correct position. I really liked Tamiyas older Spit Mk I and still do.
Awesome kit. Great balance of complexity and ease of build. Fit is typical Tamiya. Thank you Angelo and Sunward.
There are many pieces to a very detailed kit . All the pieces fit precisely together with no gaps on the fuselage or wing segments when they are glued together. It represents the finest 1/48th scale Spitfire model to date
Excellent kit, so far all parts fit well. This is my first kit after a gap of 25 years, very detailed cockpit am enjoying the experience looking forward to airbrushing when I get to that stage
This is an excellent model to build, its full of detail, the instructions are clear and it comes with photo etched parts for extra detail! Bending and gluing some parts in place can be fiddly so this model is for someone with experience ...or someone who wants a challenge!
This kit. Wow. I've been build models for over twenty years and this is by far the highest quality, and most detailed Spitfire I've ever seen. This is great. It includes photo etched parts, canopy masks, full scale and color painting guides, decals for three different marking options.
