On December 8, 1941 (Japan Time), six aircraft carriers of the Japanese Navy Mobile Fleet successfully launched the infamous surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This historic attack not only altered history, but also helped turn the aircraft carrier and its planes into the most important weapon in naval warfare. Finished in September 1941, the Zuikaku, with her 34.2 knot top speed and 84 aircraft capacity, was just in time to participate in the Pearl Harbor attack. These changes include a smaller anti-aircraft gun array, different flight deck lines and markings, and a different set of carrier aircraft.
