Well-lit photos show plenty of detail and autofocus is fast in most situations but performance on both measures drop as the light drops, faster than with pro-grade lenses. The VR is effective, as I am getting3+ stops of compensation at 300mm without too much effort, and I suspect more is possible with little concentration and at shorter focal lengths. This lens is not a lightweight. The robust grip of the X-S10 mitigates this but handling may be more awkward on the more classically styled Fuji bodies. None of this should be surprising. This is the price of being able to shoot a full-frame equivalent 27mm-450mm with semi-macro capability without changing lenses.This is a ton of lens for the money, and with its closefocusing capability is the closest thing I've seen to a true one lens solution, so long as you have plenty of light or stationary subjects that allow you to push down shutter speeds. 99% of what Ishoot with this will be viewed exclusively on social media where the image quality differences between the Tamron and more narrowly purposed lenses won't be as readily apparent. It wouldn't befair to compare this Tameron directly with shorter range premium lenses but among superzooms it is one of the best I have ever used.

For these situations, I typically would bring the Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS kit lens and the Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS. Both were relatively inexpensive options I picked up when I was first getting into photography, but after a year and a half with each and still enjoying the hobby, I felt comfortable upgrading.Pros:1- Excellent focal range- I definitely enjoy the flexibility afforded by the 18-300mm range. For example, it will not give any sort of tactile feedback that it is at 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, etc.2- The lens is designed in Japan and made in Vietnam. The lens hood and lens cap are both made in China.3- Not a small lens and naturally interferes with the built-in flash during close-up shots.4- I purchased this lens through a local camera shop due to availability when it first came out.5- Photos attached to this review have been resized / cropped, but otherwise unaltered besides added text.Overall, I would recommend this lens, especially for any casual photographer looking for a single, go-to lens.
After having "super zooms" in the years past, I found them to be convenient for not having to change lenses, but lacking in image quality.Fast forward to now, I read good reviews on this lens, so I thought I'd give a superzoom another try.Was not disappointed! Image quality is far better than any I have had in the past...Not perfect at 300mm, but compared to years ago, this one is light years ahead in image quality!Plus the vibration control is superb! I have had a stroke, and my steadiness in my hands and arms is now gone.I find I can hand hold this lens / body combo (no IBIS in body) at 300mm and shoot at 1/60th of a second and get good results!Well worth the praise given to it by online reviewers!

Butterflies and birds, forget about it.To close this out, great effort by Tamron to bring this lens to market and no doubt it will be loved by many to put convenience over quality. I really, really wanted to at least like this lens enough to replace my 18-135mm which is the weakest Fuji lens I have. Not going to happen! The Tamron is not only significantly less sharp, but it also has other inherent issues that makes this a no-go for me. I bought this lens to allow me to take more photos with less gear, instead I got a lens that produced less keepers of lower quality and with more frustration and more bulk. I'm always looking for a good, all-in-one zoom to handle everything from landscapes to wildlife. For my Sony A6500s, that pretty much meant the 18-135, because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on camera bodies that are, while still great, 2 iterations removed from current (surpassed by the A6400 and A6600).I bought this lens eager to test it out on a bunch of different subjects, and wow did it exceed my expectations! I expected it to be sharp at the wide and mid-ranges of the zoom (see shot of courthouse shot at 31mm), but to capture sharp images of birds in flight at 300mm? Yeah. Nailed it! For my Sony A6500s, that pretty much meant the 18-135, because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on camera bodies that are, while still great, 2 iterations removed from current (surpassed by the A6400 and A6600).I bought this lens eager to test it out on a bunch of different subjects, and wow did it exceed my expectations! I expected it to be sharp at the wide and mid-ranges of the zoom (see shot of courthouse shot at 31mm), but to capture sharp images of birds in flight at 300mm? Yeah. Nailed it! (See pelican image).It does not have Vibration Reduction (Tamron's name for image stabilization), but you won't really need it for landscapes, especially if shooting from a tripod, or birds-in-flight, as you shouldn't use VR for those anyway (it degrades tracking performance unless you use a more expensive lens with tracking IS/VR).Is this lens as sharp as my RF70-200L f/4 or RF100-500L? No! But those lenses are both significantly more expensive and, in the case of the RF100-500L, much heavier, too!I see this Sony A6500 + Tamron 18-300 combo as a perfect second camera to use with my Canon R5 and RF100-500L, giving me the wide angle coverage the 100-500 lacks while being light enough to carry with that bigger system. And some days, even good enough to carry all by itself!
