This will make a fine gift for my sister, and at a great price! I bought this lens anticipating that I'll give it to a relative who just bought a Sony alpha camera from me. I expect to suggest to her that it is a great all-around lens. After using it a bit myself, I'm convinced that it is exactly that. I can't see any material difference between the pictures I take with this lens as opposed to the Sony SAL 18250 I own. I've shot with both lenses on the same Sony A77 and there's no material difference in the photographic results. I've used the Tamron 18-200mm lens on a Nikon D40 and D90. I've been happy with it. It's well constructed and fairly light for the range it covers. My stuck 18-55 lens was ok, this lens was suggested to me by a friend. Its a good value but it essentially is the 18-55 lens but with zoom potential. My slight diss appointment is really my fault in not knowing enough about lenses. I really wanted more of a wide angle lens and as I noted, this is not.its the same 18mm as my factory lens. With that being said, it is a good alternative to the stick 18-55 because you have a zoom feature and the lens telescopes down to a compact size when using the 18mm.
I bought this lens for my Canon EOS 600D and it works like a charm. Really nice lensand pictures are as good as original lens from canon. I bought it at an offer price of 150€ and itis very good deal. I would recommend it for any canon lovers who takes photography as passion. THe image stabilizer can be better though i feel. Auto focus works fine and makes the image sharp at low light. During light the image stabilizer is not required so much but at night it is very important. To fix this raise the ISO of your camera to eliminate the stabilizer ability. All in all a nice lens. GO for It.
Excellent walkabout lens, a bit soft wide open at higher focal lengths unless stopped down. In some circumstance can suffer from light flare but again can be easily overcome if stopped down a bit or by the use of a circ polarising filter. Had no problems on my Pentax K200D bodies. Optically almost as good as the Pentax 28-200 but has the added advantage of 18mm wide angle. below 80-100 excellent value for money
