I wanted to give this cream some time before reviewing it, I’ve had it in my regular rotation for about a month now. I’m a regular user of proraso white and green. Initially I found this cream hard to lather, to the point I had a sore arm trying to build it up. I had to adjust my technique and it took a few shaves but I got it figured out. Still way more effort then proraso but I was able to get a really thick and slick lather. I really wanted to love this product as I like it’s subtle scent, but for whatever reason it just doesn’t work on my skin. Whereas proraso feels soothing to me, this feels like it’s burning my skin when I apply it, leaves my face red, dry, and irritated. The shave itself doesn’t feel particularly smooth either. First off for perspective, I switched to traditional shaving with a safety razor & brush for well over a year now; very happy to have made that decision & would definitely encourage folks to try it. There's a difference in initial acquisition cost but in the long run I feel that it is far cheaper & better for your face (i.e. you can pick up blades for 10-14 cents apiece in most cases. So a pack of 100 blades for 10-15 bucks, with 4-5 shaves per blade, will last you a long time. I shave every day, so a pack of 100 will last me a year & a half). Now for this particular cream. I have the Taylor Sandalwood Shaving Cream & was very pleased with the results. So I decided to try and pick up another Taylor cream. When you first apply it to your face, it takes a few moments before you really feel the icey peppermint effect. The smell is wonderful & enjoyable.Generally, I find shaving creams based in England to be very enjoyable (I also use Geo F. Trumpers) when compared to American based creams. Soaps are not my style, but for each man he'll have his own preference. As it stands, would recommend the Taylor of Old Bond Street Peppermint Shave Cream to anyone.

Switching from cartridge to double edge is an easy transition so long as you follow some best practices, (good razor, blades to match your beard and...), a good quality soap or cream. I have always preferred the tingle of a good menthol shave cream, so when I spied the peppermint TOBS I decided to give it a try.First: The point of the shave cream is to provide adequate lubrication. This product performed extremely well, and beyond my expectation. It is forgiving... if your mix is a little thin, or even a bit stiff, there is enough tolerance in this product that you will not suffer for it. 45 seconds to a minute in a bowl with a brush and you will have a lather second to none.Second: PEPPERMINT. Having been a fan of menthol creams out of a can, I was absolutely delighted with this cream. Aside from the cool sensation, the crisp scent added a bonus. I've never been one for the heavy fruity odors or sandalwood aromas. I just got out of the shower and am thinking CLEAN. There is no after-image of peppermint. After you rinse and pat dry, there is a tingle that is gone along with the peppermint scent in a minute or two. Excellent.Lastly: I am somewhat new to safety razor shaving after 40+ years with electric then cartridge. You owe it to yourself to take a chore and turn it into a manly moment of pleasure.

This is an excellent shaving cream that goes on so smoothly, and the smell is so wonderful. This shaving cream is great for anyone of any age be it someone new to shaving or to someone who has been doing so for years. This product is made in the United Kingdom, and there is no question about its quality. One container of this product has lasted me for almost two years, and one does not need to use a lot of it to get a really good shave. This product is very well worth the purchase and the trip to Merz Apothecary.
The scent is simple and very straightforward. And in today's world where some artisans take pride in having their scent list longer than the base ingredient list sometimes a simple straightforward scent is very welcome. You definitely know it's lavender, but not so much that it overpowers you. It is a pleasure to shave with. It would make an awesome spring and summertime shave lather. The lather itself, TOBS works. Is it the best I own? No, but it definitely gives a good shave. There are other soaps and creams that I personally feel give a better shave for similar money. So the winning factor for this product is the very simple straightforward scent profile.
The review title just about sums up this shaving cream. The scent is very pleasant without being overpowering. The only slight gripe I have with this shaving cream is that, for me, it didn't lather up as well as it should have so I had to use more cream in my lathering bowl in order to get an acceptable lather. However, this may be due to the fact that I live in a very hard water area - I have noticed that I have the same issue with other brands of shaving soaps/creams. The razor glides nicely through the bristle leading to a satisfying shave. Apart from the lathering issue I'm very happy with this product.
All of Taylor of Old Bind Street's shaving creams are excellent. It's just the nature of the cream. They differ based on scent. The Almond scent is quite pleasing, but not my favorite. I'd say if you love the Almond scent, then I'd recommend this cream. It doesn't linger long though, which actually may work well for others. The smell is delicious! It smells like someone baked a fresh batch of Almond cookies--our five year-old son loves the scent! I'm not sure I want to smell like almond cookies all day, so having the scent dissipate in a few hours is probably a good thing for this cream.I prefer a scent that's subtle and lingers for a good part of the day. If you're like me in this way, you might want to try one of the other Taylor scents.
As someone new to wet shaving, I decided to get a cream as opposed to a soap, due to lack of experience. This was what I bought. After a shave with it, I can say that it definitely beats using Barbasol like I used to! It was a tad tough to lather, but I'm chalking that up simply to lack of technique, as once I found a decent balance of water and cream, it was much better. It'll take some practice, I'm sure, but it wasn't bad for a first time.I had no adverse experiences with it after my shave, either. No skin irritation, no reactions, nothing of the sort. Just a nice, clean shave. One comment I can make about it is, at least for me, it's pretty nostalgic. I went to a barber shop for many years growing up, and the scent of this reminds me entirely of those days, ... MoreAs someone new to wet shaving, I decided to get a cream as opposed to a soap, due to lack of experience. I don't know if this is the cream they used back then, but if not, it's extremely similar! So that's an added bonus, in my book anyway.Overall, I'd say it's pretty great!
TOBS is the best shaving cream I’ve tried to date. As an ingrown hair-a-phobe, I’ve avoided canned spray creams. I had settled on The Art of Shaving. Though expensive, it is high quality and can be found for a little cheaper than their website price with some online hunting. However, a recent price increase sent me looking for other options. Since I do like lavender scent and antiseptic qualities, I thought I’d try TOBS lavender shaving cream if only on reputation. I was pleasantly surprised. It lathers quickly and plentifully in a bowl. It provides wonderful lubrication and rinses off easily and thoroughly. It seems to go a bit further for my 2 to 3 pass routine than the same amount of other creams I’ve tried including AOS lavender scent thus increasing its value ... MoreTOBS is the best shaving cream I’ve tried to date. The odd purple color does not survive the lathering process. I’m hooked at this price point. I’ll probably try other scents including the one for sensitive skin at some point.

The performance and sheer softness of skin after shaving with MWF is a fantastic experience.Enter today’s shaving soap artisans, who jumped into what is basically an uncontested market. After trying soaps from L&L Grooming, Barrister & Mann, Stirling, Wholly Kaw, Phoenix & Beau, Grooming Dept., Catie’s Bubbles, Tallow & Steel, Ariana & Evans and others, it is clear the bar has been raised very high in terms of shaving performance and scent, and TOBS shaving creams have a tough time earning a spot in my shaving ritual these days.I keep TOBS Grapefruit around for its unique and exceptional scent. If you like high quality citrus notes, that is all this is. There are so many fragrances out there that include a grapefruit top note that this shaving cream is a great choice on a date night or Sunday shave when you’ll be using one of the modern Fougére colognes with a grapefruit note in it.The performance is Trumper’s. So soft it lathers fast, and you’re shaving immediately. Slickness and glide, formerly top notch, are now just middle of the road.Still, because of its outstanding scent I keep it in my drawer.
