2024 P770’s: New Meaning to Shock and Awe

I initially shied away from P770’s during a few previous fittings because I was afraid I’d lose distance. I’ve always went with p790’s with a weaker loft. Well, after playing the latest version of P790’s this season I ordered a single P770 7iron in my specs and then installed my KBS C taper shaft into it. After one round and time on the driving range I was immediately sold. I ordered the clubs and received them within a few days and WOW. I think they’re just as easy if not easier to play than my 2023 P790’s. I love the added spin and control. I’m SO MUCH more accurate with these. It’s like shock and awe dropping bombs on the green These will be in my bag for a long time. Also, I have to say, the looks of these are outstanding. I really love the looks of the 2023 ... MoreI initially shied away from P770’s during a few previous fittings because I was afraid I’d lose distance. I’ve always went with p790’s with a weaker loft. Mine showed up today. I haven't got out on the Range with them yet, but at first site I'm in love. The look of these new irons are stunning. I was fit into these before purchasing, so I do know what to expect. I honestly couldn't believe a hollow body blade would feel so solid. I would have never known if I wasn't informed. I'm Swapping from my old Titleist 690 cbs I got at 16 years old. Trying to decide if my driver from the fitting will show up today because I'm so pumped to get these out on the range. I couldn't set these down in the fitting even for the driver I fit into.

I haven't even hit these yet but I am soooo impressed by Taylor Made. I ordered P770's with custom upgraded Steelfiber i80 shafts from Golf Galaxy on Tuesday and they arrived on Saturday! Built, shipped and received in 4 days without expedited shipping is insane. I ordered then std specs because I will bend them 2* up myself and I was shocked that every single spec was dead on, with the exception of the 8 iron at 36* of loft instead of 37* and I just bent it 1*.I have never had a set of irons in over 45 years of playing with almost perfect specs. Not so much as a .5* variance. Of course I am really looking forward to playing them.

Beautiful, surprisingly forgiving players irons
3 April 2024

Beautiful, elegant top line w/ great forgiveness considering these aren’t GI irons. It is a bit smaller than the 790s but off-center hits aren’t too terribly punishing. I love the brushed satin finish on these as it doesn’t create as much glare as the shiny chrome finishes. These irons are weaker lofted than the 790s which could be an issue if you need distance. If distance isn’t an issue, I would highly recommend these clubs. If you need help on distance, look at the 790s or Qi10s.

My biggest increase is with 8-P. I have 65gram graphite shafts with the weight being in the head of the club. Love These Irons
27 December 2023

I absolutely love these irons. I was playing Srixon ZX7s for a couple of years until I recently purchased a set of PXG 0317 CBs looking for better feel and performance, although they are fine clubs, I just never really clicked with them. I had hit the P770s a few times and liked them so I bought what I should have bought in the first place, a set of P770s. These P770s have given me the feeling and performance I was looking for. I paired them with Project X LZ 5.5, hard stepped due to getting a little older and not wanting to have to swing quite so hard and they are consistent, feel great, look amazing and inspire confidence. So happy with this purchase, I have found exactly what I was looking for.

My P790's vs my new P770's.
22 July 2024

I've played the P790 line of Taylormade irons for several years now. They have always felt slightly heavy and bulky to me, but the forgiveness they provide was an acceptable trade-off. I decided to give the P770's a chance to replace my P790's. I couldn't be more pleased. The P770's are a more compact head with equal forgiveness, resulting in better feel and knowledge of where the club head is throughout the swing.I play decently to a 3 or 4 handicap with an average score of 76.8 so I did have specific expectations of the new irons. What I didn't expect was to post a 2 under par 70 round after just two rounds with my new P770's. Previously played 2020 P770’s, standard L/L/L, Project X LZ 6.0/120g, ended the season at a 3.4 hcp. By no means am I an expert but through trial and error I have found the best feeling setup for me without ever being fit for irons. I was curious to see a couple other brands so I schedule a tour level fitting and oddly enough, the best feeling clubs and best numbers out of all the major brands were the P770’s; even more crazy was the Project X LZ 6.0/120g shafts were the best performing shaft for my swing! The P770’s are gorgeous in looks, forgiving, have a lot of distance and the feel is great. The P7MC’s were comparable in my opinion but the P770’s just felt better, probably because I had played the previous version. I will absolutely stand by Taylormade and their club selection, that doesn’t mean I won’t try other brands but these are fine by me!Now for ordering. I decided not to order through my fitting, no real reason but I think if I’m purchasing clubs that I should be able to get my points, not the fitter. I utilized the Taylormade website for ordering and it was a very easy process with the exception of not having the Project X LZ 6.0/120g shafts available due to 8-PW being on back order. Estimated stock date was 2 months away. I wanted to purchase the blackout version so I ordered the shafts through a third party. I had my clubs built using Nippon Modus 120 S shafts standard length, loft, and lie adjusted 1* flat as indicated through my fitting. I messed up when ordering on the Taylormade site with the grips, I wanted the grips to not be attached because I was going to pull the shafts, completely forgot to select that option and didn’t realize it until 3 days later. I called customer service and explained the situation and they took care of me.Customer service simply outstanding! After I explained the grip situation the CS representative informed me that my clubs were already in the process of being built and he could not change it. I explained to him that I was going to re-shaft the clubs and it will just be an extra step of removing the grips, no biggie. Without hesitation or questioning, he added 7 grips free of charge with the order. Absolutely amazing!Overall Taylormade experience: 9/10Only due to not having my fitted shaft available otherwise it’s an easy 10/10.Great job Team Taylormade!!!

P770 is the best iron I’ve owned
8 August 2024

My first set of TM irons were burners. Then p790. Then P770. They have helped improve my game and confidence that the shot I want to make is the shot I hit.I have the 2023 black P770 on kbs tour black shaft. So many people ask about them not only looks but performance and I happily relay how much I enjoy them. That being said, the new look does not impress. Comparing 790 to new 770 I favor the previous model lines. I will hit them to see what the change in feel and performance is like but in my experience people really enjoyed the slim profile and clean look. Not impressed with the band that sticks out on the back of the new 770.

What’s the hype?
15 May 2024

Just bought these irons, and after waiting 2+ weeks because of a back ordered 4 iron, I just received them. Took them to the range and absolutely hate them. Feel when flushed is almost non existent. Had shots varying +/- 30 yards which is ridiculous. Nowhere near as forgiving as I figured they would be. Decided to go with low/mid handicap irons for the forgiveness aspect, as I’ve always played blades and in retrospect I prefer my blades tenfold. Don’t understand why people love these so much. They feel terrible. Ball flight was far too high with lower irons as well. So upset I just wasted $1300 on a brand new set. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone that is a scratch golfer. Going back to my J36 blades.
