Does everything it says it does. I only have two complaints and two suggestion: 1) Tuning in poly mode seems to have you tune everything slightly sharp. I tuned all strings in poly first and then when switching to a single string to fine tune, ever single was string was just a hair sharp. I don't know if poly mode is accurate and single string mode is flat or vice versa, but that's a minor gripe. You can use poly mode to get close and single string mode to get every string perfect. 2) There is no way to "lock" the pedal in one mode or the other. You strum all strings for poly mode or one string for the other mode and the pedal automatically switches between modes. If you even accidentally bump another string while trying to tune a single string, the pedal will switch back to poly mode. It would be nice if there was a way to keep the pedal in one mode or the other to avoid inadvertently switching back and forth. Second suggestion, I wish there was a way to dim the display. When they say this pedal has an ultra-bright LED display, they mean it has an ULTRA-bright LED display. You could probably tune your guitar in low earth orbit with this pedal. That's fine in bright lighting or daylight, but at night or on a darkened stage, something that bright tends to affect my vision for a few minutes.Other than that, I found the pedal intuitive and easy to use. The only thing I had to refer to the manual for was to find out how to switch between alternate tunings. There is a TINY little button near the input jack and I missed it when just holding the pedal and giving it a quick once over. The pedal does not affect your tone in any noticeable way, even when you have your volume way up. The footswitch is smooth and there's no audible pop (either on the pedal or through your amp) when switching the tuner on and off.

Ive been through so many guitars tuner in my life, but Ive never had tuner that can mute your sound while on stage or simply dont look or feel bulky with out bolting it to your guitar. TC guitar tuner is worth it. It has a built in buffer for your tone no matter where you put in on your pedal board, Small compact, accurate, and I love that it tunes, all six of your guitar strings on one strum. I keep the TC on all of my custom pedal boards. I use to have the TC clip on tuner but I went back to the pedal board type. It was way easier for me to see in dark settings on stage. Get one, it wont disappoint. And it holds resale value too. Built like a tank.

Everything I read about the Polytune it true. Tbjs is a great tuner. One quick strum and you see all 6 strings. If there all in, then you are done in 3 seconds. If any string is out, you know right away which one to correct, without going through all 6 one-at-a time. Pluck one string and it goes into conventional single string tuner mode. Tuning is a lot faster this way. It also is reconfigurable for alternate tunings, buffer or bypass, always on...

Great tuner, but needs power supply
8 April 2014

This little tuner works very well. I guess I was a little behind the times because I had never heard of or used a poly tuner before. I was a little skeptical of how well it would really work in poly tune mode, but was not disappointed. When you strum all the strings, you really can easily tell which strings are out of tune. If you don't want to use poly tune mode, you don't have to do anything other than pluck an individual string, and it automatically goes into standard tuner mode. The display is very easy to see on a stage that may sometimes be dark. The tuner appears to be as sensitive as an analog meter-type tuner. If you don't want to use poly tune mode, you don't have to do anything other than pluck an individual string, and it automatically goes into standard tuner mode. The display is very easy to see on a stage that may sometimes be dark. The tuner appears to be as sensitive as an analog meter-type tuner. This tuner does not use a battery and requires a separate power supply that is not included. I ended up finding one in my junk box, but you're supposed to be able to purchase one somewhere. I think the external power supply is a good idea, as batteries would not last very long with this unit's LED display. The tuner has an input and an output jack. As with most stage-type tuners, you plug your instrument into the tuner's input, and connect the tuner's output to your effect pedals/amp/stage input or whatever. When the tuner is off (not in tuning mode), its display is off and the tuner is in "bypass" mode, meaning that the signal from your instrument goes straight through it with no added noise or attenuation (as far as I can tell). When you press the switch to turn the tuner on, its display turns on and its output is muted. In other words, you can tune your instrument without the audience hearing you tune (or without the sound person having to mute you). It's disappointing that that it doesn't come with a manual. However, it's so easy to use that you hardly need one, but if you want one you will have to download it from the company's site. The ad says nothing about this and doesn't even reference a website. The website is http://www.tcelectronic.com, and you have to look for the manual for the "PolyTune Mini" because it seems that the Noir was a limited edition tuner for which a manual was never written. That's not a big deal, though, because it looks like the Mini is almost exactly the same as the Noir. A greater concern is that the ad doesn't say anywhere that the power supply is not included with the tuner, which is required for it to work. Again, there is no link or easy way to buy one. I learned about the power supply from reading other reviews, but this is basic information that should be included. I'm giving this 5 stars because it's a great tuner, but it's pretty bad when you have to find basic information from other reviews that should have been included in the ad. Really, Musician's Friend, I love buying from you guys, but you need to update the information for this tuner.

My favorite tuner
1 June 2023

This is my favorite tuner. It's very accurate, and can do individual guutar strings or all at once without changing any settings. Having the option for buffered/non-buffered bypass is extremely useful. The always-on option makes so much sense, I wish every tuner had this option.

Polytune 3's display is dimmer by design than the Polytune 2
26 September 2017

Bought the Polytune 3 to replace the Polytune 2 on my board because I wanted the buffer without having to use a separate buffer pedal. First thing I noticed out of the box was that the Polytune 3's screen is only 60-70% as bright as the Polytune 2. Returned it and got a replacement; same thing.I spoke to TC Electronic and they confirmed that this is indeed a design change in the Polytune 3 because some people were complaining that the 2 was too bright (wow, I guess a lot of complaining people don't do outdoor gigs). Go figure. At all levels of the built in light sensor, the 3 is dimmer than the 2, including outside full brightness. Boo.This is a deal breaker for me as the Polytune 2's screen & brightness were perfect. The new one is too dim and hard to see from eye level, and other LED's on my board are actually brighter than the Polytune 3's display, which is distracting. So so disappointing as this could have been perfect. Such a puzzling decision on the part of TC Electronic. A much better solution would have been to make the brightness switchable between two modes if that really was an issue. I mean really: who wants a dimmer, harder to see screen? Especially outside in sunlight. They took one of the industry standard tuners and upgraded it with a switchable buffer, but downgraded it because the screen is dim.Going back to my Polytune 2 with separate buffer pedal.

Review of TC Electronic PolyTune 3 Mini Noir in Black
25 September 2022

An excellent tuner, and the ability to see the tuning state of all six strings *simultaneoulsly* is truly impressive and will be a time saver at gigs. Tuning a single string with a more detailed display with finer resolution is also available, and you don't even have to press a button to change modes - it just works.I think that a tuner with a large and true stroboscopic display is still the best for ultimate ease-of-use and accuracy, but with these you don't get the poly tuning ability. It's a trade off and I'm happy that I made the right decision to go with the Polytune.

I'd been putting off getting a tuning pedal for ages but this is a seriously useful gizmo. The polyphonic tuning is so convenient and helps me tune faster than any phone app, especially handy in noisy environments/gigging situations. It also works perfectly well with bass guitar which was a surprising plus! Well worth the money.

The ability to see all six strings simultaneoulsly is very impressive. It's a great time saver for tuning quickly. Also, I used it to intonate my Fender Stratocaster (moving the saddles forward or back) for precise accuracy. I am very is is truly a great product and I am truly happy I pruchased the the tuner.
