I will start off with letting everyone know I did an absurd amount of research on this TV before purchasing. The fact that the dimming handles that intense brightness, and still delivers almost OLED level blacks with extremely little blooming (much less than the Hisense competition), is an absolute marvel. My only true complaint would have to be the sound. It's adequate, and it will get the job done for most rooms, but the quality of the sound does not live up to the image on screen. Do yourself a favor and get a solid sound bar, and you wont have any issues.

This mini-LED is a huge upgrade from my previous Samsung LED TV. You can truly tell the difference in picture quality and dark colors when comparing a regular LED TV to this Mini-LED TV. This is more so when you run 8k content from YouTube. The colors on 8k are truly life like. The attached pictires don’t do this TV justice. The first movie I watched was Dune II (again) and this was an enjoyable movie theater like experience. Sound from TV is good, but nothing to brag about. For this TV and for a truly immersive experience, you will definitely need a surround sounds system. TV features are also easy to navigate. There was also no puffering or freezing of images while running demanding movies. I dont do gaming so I would not about pprocessing speed in this area. The TV was mounted on one of my walls by the Geek Squad and they did an amazing job. TV looks great and the work was done clean ansd professionally. You always hear about an “immersive experience” with these large TVs but you don’t really realize how much until you sit in front of it. This is as close as you can probably get to going out to the movie theater. Yes, it is pricey, but I think that rhis TV is worth the price due to the technology it brings to the table. I have always owned Samsung TVs and this if my very first TCL product. Only time will tell about quality, reliability, snd durability. Thus far, I am happy with this TV.

Once I decided to add a television, I immediately threw a high end OLED in the shopping cart. Big time sale price, it was highly recommended and highly discounted. But it was still expensive and I was still aching from Christmas and tuition payments. Not to mention, I frequently game on my TV and also watch a lot of YouTube and other channels that shown badges in fixed locations. I learned from my plasma display that this can lead to the dreaded image burn in. So, I let it sit and went looking for a back-lit alternative. I have a 42-inch TCL television that I use as a monitor with which I have been very happy. TCL is an up and comer in the TV market. It is not as familiar as those you regularly hear of, but it is, in my opinion, finding its place in the market by offering a great product at a great price. My TCL search turned up this TCL QM8. Doing further internet searching revealed that this is a highly recommended, and bright, television that is near the picture quality of OLED screens and has none of the draw backs. Did I mention a severe cost saving?I'd say that the QM8 is everything everyone says it is. VERY bright screen with a lot of contrast to give deep inky blacks and vibrant colors. Games are a treat and just watching bird feeders on YouTube or high definition HDR mediation channels really shine.I find myself going to Sport and Smart HDR to give the best combination of color and smooth panning. Panning in Movie mode can lead to a bit of quite noticeable stuttering. I haven't experimented enough with the settings to try to smooth it out and using the other base modes seems to sort the issue. That does raise the issue that most all new televisions with deep capabilities also have deep settings options that can require "TV settings for dummies" text book if you really want to go down that rabbit hole. That is to say, if you want to, you can tweak several dozen different settings to dial this set in to your own personal liking. Or pay a professional. For me, the base modes with a little touch hear and there, based on some quick searches, get me what I need.A whole lot of words to say this television is a versatile alternative to a higher end OLED or "name brand" set, with none of the potential drawbacks and at a significant cost savings. And sometimes, that cost savings can't be ignored. Maybe check your shopping cart to see what you're about to commit to. You might be surprised at what TCL offers at a considerable savings. I was. -Cheers*Note: Sound quality is listed as average because I run everything through my stereo. I don't know how the built in speakers and sub-woofer (!) actually sound.

They're frequently advertised as different products such as a TV, sound bar, or any other combination thereof. This "policy" essentially makes their 14 day guarantee useless for any large items. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with this. One is class action, and Best Buy has been successfully sued via class action for similar shenanigans and less than ethical business practices. The other is small claims court. Both are options, and the first one I will use is small claims court, which is not all that difficult if you follow the proper procedures. Sure, go ahead and take my review down, Best Buy, it just adds something else to show the court since I'm adding it to the photos I'm taking in preparation for the case.

[Rewarded Review] Great TV for a Great Price! But a few compromises
20 November 2024

The brightness on this is absolutely incredible! After getting the picture dialed in (Use Movie preset when calibrating) and setting up 1917 in 4k Blu Ray as a tester for the new panel I was absolutely blown away! It was honestly so bright in some high contrast scenes that it nearly hurt my eyes. Color accuracy is also very good on this TV. Blooming is truly non noticeable unless you're really looking forward and this honestly has OLED black levels. This also has some of the best TV speakers I've ever heard and they actually do a good job with Dolby Atmos, they are however still not good enough to replace a proper surround setup or soundbar though. This also has some of the best TV speakers I've ever heard and they actually do a good job with Dolby Atmos, they are however still not good enough to replace a proper surround setup or soundbar though. Now a TV with picture quality this good along with actually decent sound quality does come with some compromises and that is in motion handling. This unit definitely struggles with handling motion especially in live sports and fast panning shots. If you want it to be smooth you'll get lots of distortion around players helmets and a football flying through the air, but if you turn off all motion handling then its a bit of a juddery mess. Firmware updates over the paast few months have definitely improved its motion handling so kudos to TCL for still working on improving this set. I've personally found the best motion settings are Clearmotion on, Motion Blur 10, Reduce Judder 0. You then get a fairly smooth experience with minimal quality loss. Overall though this is a fantastic TV especially for the price, it has great build quality, great sound, great smart TV OS, and most importantly a great price!

[Rewarded Review] Incredible TV depending on your use
12 July 2024

This is a great TV depending on your primary use. For games, it's incredible. Very low latency, picture and colors are fantastic, and two HDMI 2.1 ports (neither set aside for eARC) makes this a winner. For movies it is quite good, aside from it's handling of motion. I came from a Sony X90J, so the change was drastic. While that TV (and most Sony TVs) handled motion very, very well, the colors and brightness were lacking. This TV excels as both. Fair warning, if you are watching something at full brightness and there are flashes from a camera or similar, it will make you see spots, it's that bright. As with the motion handling in movies, it is also not great with sports. Watchable for sure, but I wouldn't buy this TV if your primary use will be watching fast sports that are broadcast at a lower resolution. The settings can be adjusted so it is a little better from the default settings, but it is still not fantastic. The TV's speakers are actually quite good, but I did not use them for that long prior to hooking up my soundbar. In the short time I did use them, I found them to be the best TV speakers I have ever come across.Overall I really do like this TV, but my use is about 60% games, 25% movies, and 15% sports. If future firmware updates improve the motion handling, this TV would be 5 out of 5 and an easy recommendation.

So, picked up the 75” QM8 and saved $700 over the Bravia 7. This TCL works great…as does my 43” one….4k sports are bright and awesome (Dodgers won the Series, thanks to this TV!) Standard Def shows are fine. The sound is much better than our older Samsung and gets much louder, too. I’m not sure why a more expensive TV really matters after a certain point….maybe “bragging rights” or “latest-and-greatest” syndrome? The savings was big enough that if it lasts 5 years, we’ll just move on to the next TV…which will have even more technology.

I recently purchased the TCL 98" QM8 from Best Buy, and it has exceeded all my expectations! The picture quality is phenomenal—vibrant and clear. I was a bit nervous because the room we put it in is very bright, but it really holds up. The built-in Google operating system is a fantastic upgrade from the Google Chromecast I used on my Samsung TV.I was torn between the TCL and the Samsung 98 QN90. I’ve always had Samsung TVs, but I did my homework. The two things that sold me were TCL’s specs on contrast ratio (probably not calling it the right thing), but basically, its a better picture for those shows with dark scenes and it has more local dimming zones, which are supposed to give you better overall picture quality. But what really sold me was the price. It was ... MoreI recently purchased the TCL 98" QM8 from Best Buy, and it has exceeded all my expectations! The picture quality is phenomenal—vibrant and clear. But what really sold me was the price. It was almost half the price of the Samsung model. I decided to take a chance on TCL and am glad I did. I was also concerned about the size since our room is only 13’x15’. My husband assured me it would work (of course), and he was right—it’s big, but not overwhelming. The buying experience at Best Buy was seamless, and the Geek Squad installation service was exceptional. They communicated well, were clean, and completed the setup quickly. I can’t wait to watch the Yellowstone season 5 finale on this incredible TV. I highly recommend this TV!

[Rewarded Review] TCL narrowed the gap with Sony, LG, and Samsung
4 September 2024

I was in search of a 65 inch TV right around the $1,000 price point(with wiggle room) for my living room. Living room has windows and gets bright during the day, but I have shades I can always lower. I spent a lot of time heavily researching TV’s from various brands, various retailers, and went to several stores to see these TV’s in person and compare. I’m big on picture quality, so it was important to me to get the best bang for my buck. I considered Sony, LG, Samsung, TCL, and Hisense TV’s. I have an LG G3 in my basement and prefer OLED picture quality, but budget was making that a challenge for a 65 inch TV. I have an LG G3 in my basement and prefer OLED picture quality, but budget was making that a challenge for a 65 inch TV. After comparing in store and several Youtube video comparisons, I opted to try out the 65 inch TCL QM851G because the blacks looked nearly OLED like with excellent contrast and colors.I don’t know what the quality of TCL is as this is my first TCL TV, so I did add the 5 year Best Buy protection plan since the TV only comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty.Ordering/Pickup: Best Buy was great. I ordered online pickup and it was ready for pickup in less than an hour. Went inside and showed my receipt and they had two employees load the TV up for me.Setup: Unboxing the tv, putting the stand on, and placing the TV was all very smooth and easy. Turn the TV on, connect to wifi, log into your Google account, firmware update installed, and several apps I use were already on the home screen ready for me to use. Linked to my phone and iPad very easily.TV OS: The QM851G has Google as the operating system. Very easy to navigate and I haven’t experienced any lags to this point. Nice and fast. Quick to learn.Picture Quality: Picture quality out of the box is excellent. Very bright and vibrant colors that really pop. Probably the brightest TV I’ve ever seen. Blacks are almost OLED like with no black crushing which was a concern of mine prior to purchasing. The black bars while watching movies are actually black and not grey like a lot of other non-OLED TV’s. Stunning contrast that will have you thinking you may be watching an OLED TV. Motion settings needed to get tweaked for fast moving scenes, but once you dial in the picture settings, this TV’s picture really stands out! TCL has really made strides in catching up to Sony for motion processing and they’ve narrowed the gap.Bright room: The brightness of this TV really aids in a bright room setting. Reflections are minimal and really only show on the black bars surrounding the TV when it’s very sunny out. Even dark movies during the day were fine for me to watch.Dark room: You’ll probably want to turn the brightness down in a dark room setting, but this TV is stunning. I’ve seen some details in dark movies I’ve never seen before when watching the same movie in the past. Very happy with the dark room performance of the TCL.I’ve included pictures of both settings for you to see how the TV looks with various content.Sound quality: This TV has impressive sound. TV speakers are always a major step down from a soundbar or sound system, and I think this TV would benefit from at least having a soundbar. But the sound quality is very impressive for a TV. The best I’ve heard from TV speakers. Decent bass and tremble. Depth to the sounds. I tried a Dolby Atmos test video and even though I don’t have surround speakers, when the volume is up around 65-70, I could get some surround sound effects from the speakers. Soundbar or sound system is best if you’re seeking that cinematic experience. If not, the TV speakers will be more than enough for you, so it saves you money from purchasing a sound system.I’ve had this TV for almost a full week now and I’ve watched several of my go-to movies to compare with my LG G3 OLED in the basement and I’m seriously impressed. Batman vs Superman and The Batman are two dark movie tests that passed with flying colors. The Avenger movies and the Rings of Power series all looked amazing on this TV. I don’t feel the need to go in the basement to watch on my OLED TV like I previously felt with having this TV available and now allows me to decide where to watch based on the room atmosphere I prefer. Now for the negatives/con’s that I ran into. Upscaling of low-quality content is not always the best. I watched the first X-Men movie which was made in 2000 and the picture quality seemed rather soft and fuzzy. I pulled up the same movie on my OLED and it looked significantly better. The TV has randomly shut off in the middle of playing a movie twice over the last week and I ran into one instance I couldn’t get content to play for me. I could browse apps an select a movie, but the initial ad screen would pop up and never play no matter what I did. Unplugging the TV and plugging back in resolved this issue and it hasn’t happened since.I’m curious how sports will look when the NFL season starts. The broadcast quality of regular TV isn’t very good, so it will be interesting to see how the TCL handles live TV broadcasts. The YouTube videos I watched of games looked decent, but YouTube quality can sometimes be lacking of live content.I’m not a gamer, so I cannot speak to gaming, but based on my reading, this was a highly recommended TV for gamers.Overall thoughts: I’m blown away by the quality of TV you get at this price point. If you want an OLED TV at the same size, you’re paying nearly double for it. The QM851G is the flagship TV for TCL and it’s a great TV. Very bright, deep blacks, awesome contrast, and the picture just pops off the TV. If you want a TV very close in quality and in some aspects, even surpassing Sony, LG, and Samsung, this would be the TV to look at. Looking at price points and TV sizes, you’ll save a lot of money going with TCL. I highly recommend this TV.

The TV comes with Android 12 TV OS, feature-rich operating system from google, App-store, hands-free voice control, chromcast+airplay casting, dedicated game-master and gamebar that shows current refresh rate the game is running (120hz for PS5/Xbox X, 244 for PC with dedicated graphic card), all supported on different port of HDMI. Simply amazin.5. Supported Ports, a lot of ports, 4x HDMI, 2x USB3 and one USB3 on the right side, optical, aux, and more.6. This TV also supports ATSC 3.0, the latest antenna channel standard. Simply use any indoor/outdoor antenna (even the older ones for ATSC1.0) receiver in most US cities, will find ATSC3.0 signals. Best Antenna intergration in term of stabilities, menu design etc, of any TV.Cons:1. Being 85-Inch means has to plan out transportation, and TV placement.2. Mounting is no easy task, suggest hiring professionals to do the mounting properly.3. Wish it has USB C port, but that hasn't been the norm of smart TV yet, no biggy really.Final thoughts: This model is great for Movies, Shows, Sports and Gaming. Highly recommended to others whos looking for big screen TV!
