I'm only giving it 4 stars (tempted to drop it down to 3) because of the of set up instructions made so confusing only a child could do it!! There's no "step 1" etc. There's variables as with everything today, but something should still be put in easy to read format. This isn't. That said, the unit is AWESOME, once you get it working. The other confusing part is remembering to switch from HDMI for DVD and HDMI Arc for TV. What an improvement over just the sound from the TV, and we have a nice TV, it just didn't put out enough sound. The balance of sound is wonderful. Batteries are included and hot, nice touch. The unit is beautiful. And yes, another remote to deal with.
The soundbar itself does sound really nice, especially for the price. A big upgrade from the standard TV Speakers. The issues come when it is unable to use Dolby Sound, and switches to the standard stereo format. Any silence with the audio causes the soundbar to go into a power saving mode where the sound switches off. So sometimes there is dropouts with the audio when the sound comes on, and it can be very distracting and annoying. Using an AUX cable rectifies this issue, but it is just an annoying and unnecessary workaround. The firmware update did not correct this issue, and I doubt they ever will fix it.

Kept on making a tiny sound on certain audio. TCL online chat support no help from Tracy like she didn't care to help me. I own two TCL ALTO 7 no issues with those. What's up with the TCL ALTO 8i problems. 10 speakers including 2 3-inch subs. There are 4 3 inch speakers on the top and 4 in the front woofer and tweeter. The display in the middle is not working right either. Bad experience with this model. Nope don't want it. TCL ALTO 9 has the same A/V issue. A good soundbar for the money. The CEC/ARC setup was a bit finicky at start but working now. Had to play with few settings to get optimal setting. Sound reproduction is very good but not great on speech/dialog which you can get around by setting to movie mode. It's only a week and learning/exploring different setups. Overall compliments nicely to the TCL TV and enjoying the investment
Good Points: Fantastic sound, looks well made. And good value at sale price . Plenty of connection options. Easy to set up.Improvement Points: The most annoying point about this sound and it's quite a biggy is that whilst watching TV if the broad cast source is PCM on some programs if there is a pause in speech the the sound bar momentarily cuts out meaning you miss a fraction of what is is beeing said once the speak again. If you Google this there are loads of people with this issue only happens with PCM. It is most noticeable in the adverts but not limited to.Other minor points are sound adjust is limited to 3 preset settings of Movie,Music and TV plus you can adjust bass and treble.
I purchased this as an add on for a TCL 55r625. It arrived quickly and well packaged.The sound bar does work as advertised. It truly enhances the audio. It tucks away nicely under the tv as it is not wall mounted. You will have to pair it with your mobile device via bluetooth for any messages regarding software updates or music. If you have Google TV there will be other steps you need to take. My only complaint if you will is that given both the tv and the audio are the same brand you would think the smart tv would pick pull in software updates as it would for the tv. Currently you will need to download to a usb from the website and update the bar manually. Otherwise it is a great product.
I bought it 3 weeks ago for my bedroom and I am very pleased with it. Crisp dialogue and enough bass even without a subwoofer.It decodes Dolby Atmos but it doesn't have special hight channels speakers so don't expect miracles.I give it 5 stars for a very good price/quantity report.
