Telstra Essential Pro 2

I've bought this for my 6 year old to learn using the Android OS and so far we are happy. It's lacking some advanced features such as fingerprint reader and USB-C, but it is good enough for a novice user. OS and apps load quickly, camera is decent for a child to practice, screen has an OK resolution, colours and sunlight legibility. 3.5mm jack and microSD card slot are also handy. If you don't expect too much, you won't be disappointed. It could serve well as a backup phone. All in all it's a good value for money.

I guess the battery randomly stopping to charge or not charging to full is a known issue and probably the reason for the low sale price I got it for. Bought two for my kids, had to replace one after a week as it wouldn't charge at all, was replaced without much questioning. But if you are able to accept and look past the battery issue it is a capable Android phone for the price of a non-smart burner phone. The kids have no issues or complaints using it.I wouldn't recommend this as a primary phone.

Won't work with reseller sims. Apparently Telstra have multiple networks, so even though my sim uses a Telstra network, it's not "the" Telstra network so it's locked out of access to this phone. This is not made clear anywhere (including packaging) prior to attempting to use the thing.Telstra refuse to unlock it free-of-charge, despite their misleading lack of these details in any advertising.
