I bought my first pair over 15 years ago and wore them out. Then a friend suggested I switch things up and I got my first pair of Keens after that. Also wore those out. Recently however I opted for a popular walking tennis shoe. That is until this past weekend when I realized my ankle pain after my 5m walk was likely due to my shoes. Granted the past five years have seen a distinct sloughing off on my daily walks. First it was the loss of my good boi then Covid. So jumping right back into 5m may be a tad aggressive, but muscle memory, right? Broke after 4 months of pretty light usage - couple hours of hiking per week. I stepped down off a rock and the heel strap pulled right out of the footbed. The strap is simply glued into the sole rather than secured by looping underneath or being stitched into the structure. Based on reading other reviews where this has happened to other folks, I suspect the glue joint weakens when wet - it was raining when mine broke. In-store rep gave me a refund but also suggested this was "normal wear and tear" - I guess we have different definitions of that term.Another issue with these is that the straps lengthen considerably when they get wet. Put simply, it's a poser product that literally cannot walk the walk.

I have worn Tevas for 25+ years and used them as my primary hiking footwear. Until recently, they'd last me through years of rugged use. My last two pairs, however, have quickly fallen apart. In both cases, the sole started to separate, then the straps tore out. With this pair, that happened after less than 4 months. The ankle straps tore out at the midpoint of a rugged creek hike, leaving me to limp back to the car in a dangerously floppy sandal.I still find Tevas to be more comfortable than any other rugged sandal. They offer fantastic grip and great support. I don't want to switch brands, but this quality is absolutely unacceptable. I have no use for sandals that might break on me at any moment, even when practically new.

Firt bought some basic sandles to replace a part that a foster dog chewed on. The basic pair had the triangle strap holders right where the little toe is. Needless to say, both toes had major blisters by the end of the wear. So I purchased theHiking sandles. Much better. But I keep looking at my older pairs and all of them (3 old pairs) do not have the triangle junction for the straps. They all lasted years with no discomfort at all. In fact those sandles were my go to shoes even in the winter. (I live in the mountains). Now I have a pair of sandles I will not wear and a pair I have limited faith in due to the triangle piece. Do I need to look elsewhere?
After four weeks of a three month backpacking tour from southeastasia to nepal both anklestraps on the inner just ripped out of the midsole. Watching the Rose Anvil review in youtube, the complete through the midsole strapping was the sole reason for this. Besides, it is a horrible heavy sandal. Now what? Two months to go. Opt for something obviously crappy from a street vendor? No. I looked up a store to get another Teva pair. I was so bummed, i just didn't wanted to spend the bug buck. So i bought the OG Universal. The front straps just bit themselves into my pinky til, honestly, after 7,5km it started bleeding. Went back. Grabbed a pair of XLT 2. And the main strap is to short and doesn't even have the plastic ending for convenient grab.Man! Honestly???Next ... I've owned 2 pairs of Teva's since I started wearing sandles 30 years ago. I've tried the Terra Fi 5 around the house. I just can't get confortable with them. There's an arch support now that I can't quite line up with my feet. The triangle on the inside of the ankles isn't comfortable and it looks like the will wear through quickly. I like to keep my sandles loose on the top but tight front to back to keep my feet from overheating. I can't seem to do that with these and have to keep tight on all sides because there's no clip to hold the settings...so my feet are overheating. I might have to return and go with a different brand.
I bought these for a trip down the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon. They broke on day day 7 of a 14 day trip and really made the rest of the trip difficult. I bought these well in advance and broke them in. I was standing in the river on a loose sandy bottom unloading one of the rafts. I went to head back to shore and my feet had sunk into the bottom a few inches. As I went to pick up my foot, I felt "pop" , and discovered that one of the main heel support straps just pulled right out of the sole. You can see it in the photo. For the price and the reputation, these things are terribly designed and constructed and really failed me on this trip. This strap appears to be just pressed and glued into the sole. I got my set of these in June '23 to replace a prior pair. They were used through last summer, and I had just started to wear them again this summer. No heavy use or hiking, but I'm sure they got wet at some point.As it seems many others have encountered, the inside strap on one heel tore out while just casually walking down the street in July '24, just beyond Teva's one year warranty.Fortunately, MEC is wonderful and has given me store credit even though they were past the warranty period.The sandals were comfortable, and I would have replaced them with the same exact pair if they had my size in stock.5 stars for MEC being great about this; 2 stars for the build quality of the sandals though. My last pair lasted over 5 years, so I expected much better.
The durability of the sole is great. But that's the only good thing about the sandal. The cushion on the straps really cause great friction on your skin when wet so you find yourself adjusting the straps looser/ tighter all day. In humid conditions, when wet, those cushion points do not dry and just because sandpaper on your feet. It's terrible blisters. The rubber sole just stains your feet black after hours of wear. My review is based on taking these to the Philippines & hiking Patagonia. Only having them 1.5 months im ready to throw them out & invest in another brand with different materials. More is a negative with this sandal.
Wow. Bought these in July 2022. After 3 days, the front toe strap broke off. It wasn’t sewn on at all - just glued. REI happily replaced them. Now, after two years (4 to 5 months of actual wear), try replacements have disintegrated. The older generations of Teva would last for years. Now, they last a couple of months.REI knows they are selling junk, and that’s partly why they have reduced their satisfaction guarantee to 1 year.Shame on you REI. And shame on you, Teva. Making and selling complete garbage. Might as well shop at Walmart and buy junk at “junk” prices.It used to be that REI vetted their products. That is no longer the case. Trusted retailer? Nope.
