A great shoe... until you walk in sand

My husband bought the shoes for a vacation trip to Hawaii and was really excited about them. The shoes looked great, felt great, had great traction. What could go wrong?Well... it was most disappointing for him to use them the very first time, and, after rinsing the sand out of the shoes at the beach spigot, find more sand in the shoes. Rinse, put on, find sand; repeat. No amount of flushing the shoes would get all the sand out, and walking around with sand in the shoes is begging for a blister. They had to be returned, most regrettably.

I see all these less than perfect reviews, and as usual wonder what people are thinking. I've worn Teva's for more years than I can remember, and I feel they are the best sandals out there for outdoor activities - or just general wear for that matter. These shoes are no exception. Very adjustable, super comfortable, keep the sand and stones out, and keep the tops of my feet from getting sunburned on long canoe rides. These were made for outdoor activities involving water. Sized correctly and would buy again.

I needed a water shoe that offered good rock protection and didn't let small rocks in. I thought these shoes were the perfect option until I wore them for a few hours. It did what I wanted it to do but the plastic strap ring near the heal cut into my foot over a few hours, on both feet actually. It was extremely painful and I returned them immediately. This shoe needs a redesign where there's no hard plastic rubbing against the ankle and it would be the perfect water shoe.

Innovative design, terrible execution
16 August 2023

Bought these to replace a soft Crocs soft wet shoes; for the last 10 years I have used the Crocs as boating shoes, but they don't make them anymore. Crocs were inexpensive, durable, fitted like a glove, great , simple adjustment with a single Velcro strap. Saw the Teva Outflow Universal and thought that 3 adjusting Velcro straps would be an improvement. But the execution is terrible. Although in my case sole size is perfect, the webbing is so big that the straps run out of Velcro before adjustment, dangling all over (I am not skinny, actually a little pudgy at 5'6" and 146 pounds). Worse is that the plastic tabs where the straps are pulled to adjust have angles and are made if a material that make pulling the straps and adjusting difficult and impossible to adjust ... MoreBought these to replace a soft Crocs soft wet shoes; for the last 10 years I have used the Crocs as boating shoes, but they don't make them anymore. Also the back tab digs into the ankles making it very uncomfortable. The front adjusting strap is directly over the toes joints, making it too painful. Cannot use them without first donning a neoprene sock to protect the foot and get some type of adjustment, but still very uncomfortable. Cannot wear it fir very long. However, looks like it is well made and materials are good quality.

MAJOR DESIGN FLAW with straps
26 March 2023

Historically I've been a BIG fan of Teva and have worn my sandals for decades. I saw this hybrid sneaker-sandal concept and thought WOW, this is the best of both worlds. I was WRONG!The velcro straps are VERY poorly designed (some young designer isn't paying attention to details and wearability or chose not to test these shoes on actual feet). The amount of velcro on the strap is sparse and same goes for the catching velco strip on the shoe. As you "tighten" the strap, the two velcro pieces do not catch sufficiently as the top strap goes past the "catchable" area. Unless you have really fat feet, the straps are very unacceptable.BAD BAD BAD design!

The shoe itself is very comfortable. The only reason I'm giving a one star is because I wore them on a hike while on vacation that also required me to go into water. The shoe didn't give me no problems walking, climbing or in the water either. They didn't weigh me down at all. The only complaint I have is when I got back to the hotel I rinsed them and put them outside in the sun to dry when I woke up to wear them again they weren't dry inside and they also had a weird smell like when you leave something in the dryer overnight. I was a bit confused being that they are meant for the water I figured they would dry fast but they didn't. If it wasn't for that I'd give these shoes 5 because everything else is great.

The designer of this shoe must not have ankles
5 July 2023

I was very hopeful for this shoe, it sounded so promising. Made for both ground terrain & water, quick-drying. I knew I had to buy a pair for my upcoming hiking trip in the desert. The first time I tried them on for a hike, my ankles were in pain. The triangular hard plastic component on both sides of the shoe used to fasten the velcro straps dug right into my ankle bones on either side, resulting in this piercing, jabbing pain for any step I took that was at a weird angle. I really hope the Teva team takes the time to re-evaluate the design of this shoe, because as cool as it sounds on paper, this is a severe flaw in the design that can cause serious injury on more strenuous hikes. Giving one star because that's the minimum, but I've never had to throw away a pair of shoes like that.

Wish I could love them
6 July 2024

I really want to love these, but there's a couple things holding them back. The toe box is pretty narrow. Rubbing both sides of the ball of my foot and my toes. I could live with it, but it is uncomfortable. The biggest problem though, is the strap over top of the ankle. It is WAY to long. I ordered the right size by length, and, to strap them even slightly snug, there is barely a quarter of an inch of active velcro. The reasons I want to love them? The upper is super soft and comfortable, and the foot bed feels very good. But I like my shoes to be secure underfoot, and not be able to move all about on a whim. The upper strap just doesn't allow for that, unfortunately.
