The Alchemist 25th Anniversary by Paulo Coelho
Paulo Coelho's novel, The Alchemist, 25th Anniversary Edition, continues to captivate readers around the globe with its enchanting and timeless tale. Dazzling in its powerful simplicity and soul-stirring wisdom, the story revolves around Santiago, an adventurous Andalusian shepherd boy who dreams of discovering a hidden treasure buried near the Egyptian pyramids. With unwavering resolve, Santiago journeys from his homeland in Spain, across the Mediterranean, and into the heart of the Egyptian desert, driven by an enigmatic and recurring dream. Throughout his journey, Santiago encounters a series of mysterious and profound characters who each impart essential life lessons. A wise old Gypsy woman, who interprets dreams; a man who claims to be a king, who teaches Santiago about the concept of a "Personal Legend"; and an alchemist, who challenges Santiago to confront his innermost fears and gives him the courage to follow his heart. These encounters guide Santiago ever closer to his treasure—and to an inner understanding that transcends material wealth. The narrative evolves into a deeply philosophical fable, touching upon themes of destiny, purpose, and the transformative power of pursuing one's dreams. As Santiago navigates the obstacles and trials that lay in his path, he learns that true happiness often lies not in the final destination, but in the journey itself and the intrinsic treasures garnered along the way. Lush and evocative in its prose, and deeply humane in its exploration of the human spirit, The Alchemist embodies an eternal testament to the power of our aspirations and the importance of heeding the desires of our hearts. This 25th Anniversary Edition stands as a celebration of Coelho's masterful storytelling, inviting both new readers and long-time fans to be mesmerised by Santiago's timeless quest for self-discovery and personal fulfilment.

I feel like this is just a book you need to have on hand. It was required reading for my youngest sister, but not for me (it hadn’t been out long when I was in HS). I’m happy I finally got around to reading it. I was engaged in the story and definitely wanted to know what was coming next. I can see this being most beneficial to young adults who are figuring out life’s next steps. But, it’s also got a nostalgic sense about it for middle aged adults (myself) as well.

It is great to travel through different countries, people & customs, and different times through books. However, that's probably it. The story telling just keeps going and going, without much telling. Enjoyed bits of it, but not truly captivating.

The most inspiring book Ive ever read. I cant believe how much wisdom and magic are crammed into such a small novel. I was having chills running down my spine and warmth from my heart again and again while reading this gem. The Alchemist reminded me not to give up on my dream, repeatedly and in so many ways, at a time when I was ready to stop trying. I couldnt put the book down, found it so enchanting and entertaining while getting a much needed life transfusion into my soul. If you know you are destined to do more with your life than pay bills and die, if youve perhaps been a bit lost or discouraged on your journey, then this book is for you. Enjoy :)

Read this book in 2 days it was very captivating exciting journey from a boy who is a sheperd and decides to explore the world chasing his dreams coming in contact with wisdom from his elders mysteries and spirituality to discover. Most importNtly he discovered the power of his heart and why you should always follow your heart.
I was triggered to read this book when Pharrell Williams famously made the Happy song, during a TV interview he stated that reading The Alchemist changed his life. I rewinded what he said several times to get the name of the book. When I read it, it changed me too. Making a switch in my thinking. I wanted my middle school grandson to read it too. I thought if he could get the Philosophy early in life he would be ahead of the game. I withheld it from the library, months after months. His interest was just not there, maybe not for reading much of any books. But now, he is in the military, I thought it would be a good time to add this to his care package. I am hoping that he will read it, and begin to make the switch in thinking. This allegorical little story reads like a metaphor for life and is closely allied to Christian beliefs. The young protagonist, Santiago, is a conscientious shepherd who tends his flock in the Andalusian mountains of Spain. He is hard working and ambitious. From a series of wise men, Santiago learns about the Soul of the World and his Personal Legend within that world.Coelho is willing the reader to identify with the unsophisticated, trusting boy and thereby inviting us to pursue our own Personal Legend. The seemingly uncomplicated characters and simple plot irritated me slightly to begin wit but when I discovered how many other concepts were being introduced, I was challenged to consider their messages more deeply.
I’ve had my eye on this book for years. Its beautiful cover was just so stunning and I’d always admired it. One day I bought this book on a whim, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Reading it, I understand why so many people love and swear by this book. It has easily become one of my top three books of all time. Although people at any age can enjoy it (yes, even children may be enraptured by the magic of this story), I found it especially relevant as a young adult; it felt like this book was written just for me. I read this just several months ago and have already read it again since, and I am not one to reread books usually.
I am a reader of philosophy and pretty much every other subject... I have been my whole life. Whilst being born into 1970's Sydney Australia, I grew up with a more Eastern philosophy background, and exposure to many different cultural ways of thinking.I don't want to seem arrogant, however there was nothing mind blowing, or new here. I think you would have to be the person who was never taught to examine or question the motivations and thought processes of yourself and others to gain much insight from this book. These are not new ideas, and many previous books and thinkers have done this job a lot better. I think what was done better here was the marketing and hype. Not that it's bad - it's a pretty little story, and nothing more. I'm sorry I wasted money on it and ... MoreI am a reader of philosophy and pretty much every other subject... I have been my whole life. I am so happy to have the 4 copies to share with friends. They unfortunately are mini editions. Size very small. It wasn't apparent when I ordered them that they were very small size. Is a bit embarrassing giving the to my friends...
A well written book. Reminded me of a couple of things I've learnt in lifes journey.1. Follow your dreams. Don't be someone who sell dreams for small desires.2. One doesn't own anyoneEnjoyed the book. Easy to read in one day. Would be 5 stars except it uses god fantasies to attempt to relate to whats important in life. This cheapens the message. For me the message is that we have dreams when young, ( I don't mean everyone wants to be a fireman ;)). Most give up on those dreams due to fear, fear of being hurt, fear of success, fear that ones dreams are better than the reality of them.Follow your dreams, because for many they are always with us as something unfulfilled in life, and for others those dreams are forgotten and replaced with just existing.
