I am a social, casual game player so this was a little bit involved for me. I've never played dungeons and dragons, but I think this game is pretty similar. If you love those scenario-based strategy games, you will like this one. The initial learning curve was steep for us. Lots of instructions and rules. It would be fun to play with someone who already knows the game really well. The game is awesome at immersing you in all things Goonies. From the characters to the locations and cards, it is all really well done! I also like that the game can change each time you play it so you won't get bored of the game the more you play.

I am a very casual gamer, and this is the first time I have dipped my toe into any kind of adventure game like this. There's a LOT to learn, I'm still not completely familiar with it. I am Gen-X and The Goonies was and still is one of my all-time favorite movies, so I was excited to check this game out. You need a few people to play (2 to 5 players recommended), and one player is the designated Goondocks Master. The gameboard and all of the pieces, both cardboard and plastic, are well made and seem durable. They're also very detailed and cute! It includes plastic baggies to keep things organized and extras for the cardboard pieces that you punch out. Playthrough is not terribly long, each game session lasting about an hour, and it's not *hard*, but it's a little ... MoreI am a very casual gamer, and this is the first time I have dipped my toe into any kind of adventure game like this. I loved The Goonies as a kid in the 80s and bought this game to play with my children ages 5, 7 and 10. I don’t understand the reviews saying that the game is too complex. You have to read the rulebook and then you have to follow the rules. It’s not a short game like Parcheesi, checkers or Sorry. It takes about 60-90 minutes to play through an adventure but it is captivating and even my 5 year old (who was also coloring half the time) remained captivated by the suspenseful way that the turns play out. Set aside an evening, not just 10 minutes. The setup requires one person to act as the Goondocks master and for younger children this should probably be a parent. I could imagine that if the game were just handed to children they might have a hard time with the ... MoreI loved The Goonies as a kid in the 80s and bought this game to play with my children ages 5, 7 and 10. I could imagine that if the game were just handed to children they might have a hard time with the division of responsibilities. My family made some mistakes and forgot a few rules the first time but nothing that would ruin the game. Here’s a very useful tip another reviewer left that really helped me: If you’re playing with kids, don’t bring them to the table until after the pieces are punched out, you’ve thoroughly read the instruction manual and the first adventure, and the board is all set up. The artwork is amazing. The adventures are very well written out with detailed instructions for each one that give specific scripts to follow depending on how the players choose to play through. Even the responsible person acting as Goondocks master can “win” if they play aggressively and defeat all the Goonies. There is a lot of choice in this game and flexibility to help cater the challenge for different ages. My kids hadn’t seen the Goonies beforehand but they loved this game. We’ve played through 4 of the 9 adventures during our summer vacation and the children have been begging for more.

Fun

This Goonies board game is so fun. You can have 2-5 players. At first it is a little overwhelming but once you start playing it is super easy. We played 1 sanario so far and were hooked. Everything is packed nicely in the box, it also comes with extra baggies to put all the punched out pieces in. The cut outs are nice and thick and will last for years of fun playing. It has a very detailed guide to help set it up and play. We do family game night often and will be adding this one to our fun play list. Overall I am very happy with this fun game!

Being a child of the 80s made this game so much fun! We just watched the movie recently so we were stoked to play. It does take a little bit of effort to learn how to play. We watched a youtube explainer video to understand the gameplay. Once you get the basics down it's a lot easier to play a game. It has great replayability and each game lasts about an hour. The first game will take much longer. Overall it is super fun especially if you love the Goonies from your childhood.

The Goonies has always been my favorite movie and I Was so excited there was a game on my favorite movie. It is kind of complicated at first but it comes with clear and easy to follow instructions. After you play it you will get used to it and love it. There is different scenarios to play. And I can’t wait to play them all. The whole game set up is just awesome. And everything is just like the movie. It is really cool and a must have game for every family game night.

Impossibly confusing!
16 January 2022

My husband and I grew up in the 90s loving the Goonies, and our kids aged 10, 8, 5 have watched it a bunch and love it, too! So it was a no-brainer to get this for them for Christmas and to use for family game night. Let me just say, this game is far from a no-brainer. Set up of the 8 millions pieces took an hour, then we spent another hour reading over the instructions and adventure book while the kids impatiently whines in our ears, and still had no idea how to get going. We gave up and packed it all up. I wouldn’t suggest even trying to play this with kids under 10 (and for the record, the box does say 12 ) and even that might be pushing it. If you plan to open this game for a game night, be sure to do so hours beforehand to account for setup and the ridiculously ... MoreMy husband and I grew up in the 90s loving the Goonies, and our kids aged 10, 8, 5 have watched it a bunch and love it, too! This is a fun game!

This is a fun game! We played with a group of four and had a good time. The game board and all of the tokens are solid. The miniatures are a lot of fun. What I really enjoyed is that one person controls the bad guys and the other players are the Goonies. This makes for a fun game as when you play again, you can take on different roles. The game play is fun and we all had a blast playing. I do suggest reading all of the instructions through first to minimize confusion. There is a nice quick reference guide provided that is in the form of One-Eyed Willie's treasure map that is quite handy. Having the Goonies movie on in the background is also quite fun. Recommended.

Way too complicated and not for two players
5 March 2022

I was so excited when I saw this game in Target! We were looking for fun 2 player games to play for our date nights. Well, as others have mentioned, there are a million pieces and it takes forever to set everything up. Also, this is NOT for 2 players in my opinion. One would have to play by themselves as the other one is the master person (forgot what they call it) and creates the game for the one playing. So if you’re considering for 2 people, I would not recommend it. And after spending forever getting the pieces out and ready, and reading the different instructions, and then looking up YouTube videos that didn’t help, we gave up. At least I drowned my disappointment in a few glasses of wine while my husband kept trying to read the directions. The next date night, ... MoreI was so excited when I saw this game in Target!
