I don't even know where to start. This book? DEVASTATINGLY heart wrenching. So good that I know this will be sticking around with me for years to come. So good that if anyone, and I mean ANYONE asks what's the one book I ALWAYS recommend, it's going to be this one. Every. Single. Time.How can something be so categorically dystopian but hit so close to reality? This novel seeps into every pore and starts the reaction of self inspection on a scale I've never quite been able to grasp previously. The ending will be deep rooted for weeks to come simply for how beautifully written it was.Ladies, buy this book and buy it now. You'll have it read within 2 days max, and your life will be better for it.

If you like the handmaids tale, hunger games, etc. this is for you. A great dystopian style novel from a female perspective. Intriguing, easy to read, and a great recommendation!

I absolutely loved this book. Too many books try too hard (and fail) to be “The Next Hunger Games” or “The Next Divergent”. Few books can truly suck you in, and leave you wanting more. This is one of those books. It is in the vein of Hunger Games and Divergent, but is also its own unique story. You end the book wishing you could stay just a little longer.

I was on the fence about reading this one because I didn't like Blood and Salt. When The Grace Year was chosen as a book for discussion in Monthly Book Club, that was a sign I had to read it, and I'm glad I did. Liggett's writing has really grown and blossomed since BAS. Although this story was original, it gave me flashbacks of The Maze Runner. It was intriguing, charismatic, emotional, and extreme, but it had those dreaded pacing issues. And an intense part towards the end could have been worked into the story better to give it a more complete feel. I really enjoyed the characters, the overall energy of the book, and the near fulfilling ending. My rating teeters between 4 and 5 stars, closer to 4. If you're on the fence, jump off, pick up The Grace Year, and read it.
From the second I picked this book up, I couldn't put it down. This is such an amazing novel. Little things that you don't even deem as significant throughout the story end up tying together all the loose ends come the last page. This is a coming of age, feminist, romance and thriller book all wrapped into one with a pretty red ribbon.
One of the best books I have read in a long time. I was completely whisked away into another world where we grow to understand that the patriarchy isn't the only thing tearing woman down. How can woman stand up to the man, when they are their own worst enemy, when they are tearing each apart--literally and emotionally? This is a beautifully written coming-of-age story embedded with magic. I was surprised over and over again by all the twists and turns that were laid out for the reader so gracefully.
This book is a fantastic exploration of the psychological impacts that young women experience, only heightened through a scenario reminiscent of both The Handmaids Tale and Lord of The Flies. Extremely well written and almost impossible to put down, I was enthralled by the story and universe that Kim Liggett has created. If you're after a feminist story in a haunting dystopia then this is the book for you!
A mix of Hunger Games and Lord of the Flies. When girls are 16 they are believed to come into their magic which lures men and makes women mad with jealousy. This has caused the Grace Year to be . The girls are rounded up and sent to an island for the year so they can be rid of their magic. However not all the girls return and no one ever speaks of their time on the island.
Just amazing, so interesting and captivating. I wish this one a series so i could keep reading, hopefully she makes a second book.
