The 2023 P790s are excellent irons, but I hope that you do not have the experience that I have had, both frustration and expense. Here is my story. I was fitted for new irons on 8/17/2023, and I ordered P790-23 clubs (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW) through my Club that same day. Received the new clubs on 9/11/2023. I immediately inspected the clubs and noticed that the PW appeared to have more loft than the standard specs. I was told by my Club that the Club was unable to check lofts since the Club does not own loft-lie equipment. On 9/14/2023 I drove to Jacksonville, Florida (almost an hour drive). Lofts and lies were checked by a PGA Pro at Masterfit Golf. The PW came in at 46 degrees (one degree weak) which confirmed my visual assessment. I paid my bill to Masterfit Golf, and I now have the clubs meeting specs which I thought I would have received from TaylorMade. BEWARE of the quality control. I am disappointed both with TaylorMade and my Club’s professional staff.

I have been swinging taylormade clubs since the mid 90's starting with the old Burner bubble shafts (for those of you who can remember those!) moving thru RAC's, CGB's, RBZ's and most recently the stealth irons. After a several year exodus, I picked up the stealth irons about a year and a half ago and they are great but I felt like I was ready for something a bit smaller and more of a "players" iron and these fit the bill. They are an absolutely gorgeous iron that I sometimes hate to even hit a ball with and the pop of the forged face is pleasing both with sound and feel. I was originally concerned about the weaker loft compared to the stealth but I actually hit these just as far with excellent height. These irons produce great height and length. I've been able to stop mid and longer irons quicker on the greensGood feedback from the clubs; it's easy to feel where the ball came off the face.I fight a hook at times, but these are easy to control.Looks good in the bag, looks good over the ball. Clubs sit well at address without being too small to be intimidating, or too chunky like a game improvement iron.Pretty consistent distance, I haven't noticed any shots that flew significantly too far.I'm happy with my purchase and look forward to gaming these for a long time

I bought the original version of the P790 irons in 2017 after testing the Titleist, Ping, Callaway, and Cobra irons. I had previously owned the original TaylorMade Burner 2.0 irons and loved them. What an upgrade when I switched!Where I purchased the P790 irons I was skeptical due to club testing always goes better in the simulation chamber. The P790 clubs provided a better launch and shot dispersion with equal or greater distance that the others tested. My skepticism soon vanished when I went to the course and have since purchased a set every other year and love the pure sound and “FARGIVENESS” this iron provides. I am a huge fan of TaylorMade products and even more so since purchasing the P790 irons!
Compared to the 2021 P790s, These feel much better off the face, have a better sound, and seem more forgiving. When hit pure, they feel incredible and sound powerful. Mishits still feel good, but there is enough feedback to know where you hit it on the face. Compared to the 2021 model I find the ball flight to be better across the board (PW - 4) and where the 2021 model felt "clicky" to me, these feel/ sounds much better to me. Other may have a different experience, but I find that as long as you get decent compression with the 2023 model, you get a nice, crispy, powerful sound/feel off the face. Love these things. I ordered mine with Nippon Modus 105 Stiff flex shaft and GOlf Pride MCC Plus 4 grips, great combo — plan to keep these for many years!
Overall, great all around iron. I previously played the 2019 T200's and wanted the new Titleist T200 irons. Before I pulled the trigger on the new Titleist irons I tested out the P790's. My biggest priority was a higher ball flight and they beat out the Titleist. With the higher ball flight I was able to increase my spin with a 7 iron into greens by 2200 rpm and a descent angle of 45 degrees. The long irons gave me a much needed confidence when needing to hit long targets off of the tee. Even the mishits were not that much off line and lost very little total yardage.I have been a Titleist guy for a long time and these irons definitely changed my feelings on the quality of the Taylormade product!
I bought the 2023 P790s the day they became available on TMs internet site. I own a set of the 2021 P790s that I bought the same way. I must say that the 2023 version of the P790s are the best irons that I've ever owned and played. I've owned some of their competitors irons and none come close tho these irons. I love the feel of the ball off these irons. For me, they are very straight when I need them to be and workable when I need a nice fade or a draw. I have the Recoil Dart 75 shafts (stiff), Golfpride grips, and I ordered them at 1.5 degrees stronger than the normal specs. The weight and balance is incredible and my distance is some kind of CRAZY!
Very happy with the performance. Was fitted to the 2nd Gen P790 but held off since I was just a few years into the RSI2 (which I thought were a measurable upgrade to the Callaway FT irons). 1 week of daily play (some range range and a round) with the new set and I'm very pleased with all aspects of the new set. Gained 1/2 club over RSI2s but had a monumental increase in playability with 20% increase in max height and 10% increase in spin and a bit more in the long irons. Will now carry a 3 iron again since I get very good height with the P790. The distance and height are unaffected by changes in strike location anywhere near the center and the feedback is good - i.e. the flight remains good while the sound and softness of an off-center strike are most evident. ... MoreVery happy with the performance. Generally, while hollow clubs don't get a good rap for sound, these sound soft on center spikes and even off-center were more audibly pleasing than anything but a bullseye strike on my RSI2s. Great set of clubs, no regrets splurging on these. Set is 3-AW with Project X IO shafts and the combination is fantastic. Strongly recommend at least an entry-level fitting as results can improve significantly with proper shaft/grip combinations. Good Luck!
I had the 2021 P790's and just took delivery of the 2023 P790's. Got to play them for the first time last night. I'll be honest, I'm typically a bit skeptical when I read reviews that claim some fantastic yardage gain by using XXX new club. But I've got to tell you, I actually did gain an average 5 yards on my distances with the new 790s. I had them built with the new Elevate 95 MPH shaft in regular flex and they feel great. They feel very light and because of that, I think I've added a bit to my swing speed which in turn is what's adding a little yardage. Can't wait for Sunday when I get a chance to go out and play them again. I really do like these clubs.
I have been hitting a lot of balls (hundreds) with my new (23') P790's for 6 days now, and I am so please with the experience. The clubs were built to my exact requested specs (1 degree flat for starters) and Graphite Sr flex. I am a retired PGA golf professional, and I am the first to admit that at 79 years old, my club head speed matches my birthday! So, these irons could not suit me any better. Because the lie angle is correct along with all else, I feel like I am once again shooting darts! What I like most is how straight I can hit them and with a bit more height than I have experienced in a few years regardless of which clubs I might choose to compare. These new P790's are a no-brainer for most golfers, especially ones with handicaps of any number.
