(153 reviews)

Gonzalez Byass UK is proud to announce the arrival of The London Gin, one of a handful of super premium Gin's actually distilled in London. Quadruple distilled in small batches under the careful eye of Master Distiller Charles Maxwell, The London Gin is made from the highest quality English grain spirit and contains 13 key botanicals. To the traditional juniper, coriander and angelica are added lemon peel, cassia bark, liquorice, cinnamon, almond, angelica, savoury, orris root and orange root. It also uniquely contains gardenia and bergamot - that instantly recognisable perfumed aroma most often encountered in Earl Grey tea. The pot still method of production ensures that only small batches of London Gin are produced at any one time, ensuring a constant quality threshold. The London Gin also presents itself with a turquoise-blue hue - 'The Original Blue Gin'. At a generous 47% abv, The London Gin is delicate and elegant on the nose with marked spicy and balsamic notes. Soft, elegant and mellow on the palate, The London Gin gives way to a long finish with refreshing acidity, all of which adds up to a sophisticated, well-rounded gin that delivers in every area. Delicious in a Gin and Tonic and other classic cocktails, The London Gin also comes into its own when drunk simply on the rocks.

Beautiful subtle flavour

Lovely tasting gin presented in a beautiful bottle. It stands out with its pale blue colour but if that puts you off, dont, as the taste is refined and smooth. Very easy to drink and somewhat surprised to see it is pretty strong in alcohol with 47% compared to the usual 40% of other competing gins. Enjoy with moderation!

Dry but tasty

Im reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. I've only recently got into drinking gin and normally go for less dry ones with some citrussy or fruity notes. This gin is definitely dry and has some subtle flavours, would probably mix with well with anything. You can't taste how strong it is when mixing, so be careful with your measures! I quite like the blue colour, different. I might consider buying this if it was on offer.

Enjoyable gin.

Given item to review. Big thank you for giving us this gin to review. After an awful day at work it was lovely to take this gorgeous bottle out of the bag. It would make a lovely gift as the bottle is so nice. The colour of the gin is not only quirky but a good talking point. The gin itself I found very citrusy. It made a perfect gin and tonic, smooth and refreshing. Would buy again.

First Impression

Like another reviewer, I sampled this gin on a Lufthansa flight, it was featured on the First Class menu as a special offering. It was love at first taste, so I ordered this hard to find product from Wooden Cork, it will not disappoint..

Good complex flavour
1 February 2020

I got this free to try and review from Ocado. More complex flavour than Gordons, not as sweet as Gordons pink. As good as Hendricks or Tanquerey. I will keep this in my favourites so I can see when its on offer. Would recommend. Whats all this nonsense about the blue colour?

Lovely blue gin
17 February 2020

I received this free from Ocado to review. The bottle is a lovely shape and this would look very nice to give as a gift (albeit on the slightly pricey side) The gin is a beautiful blue colour and although quite strong, has a smooth, dry taste. I dont like tonic so I had mine with lemonade (which probably gives it an overall sweeter taste than if served with tonic) Very much recommend.

Quirky drink, tasty gin!
22 February 2020

Sent product to review by Ocado. First off, it has a distinctive blue colour (unlike other brands, the drink itself is blue - not just the bottle). This made it a quirky drink to serve to my friends when they came over. The taste of it was nice - but not anything particularly distinctive compared to some of the other brands. I would probably buy it again if it wasnt quite so expensive - for ?35 Id rather a bottle of Sipsmiths, but do accept that this is a premium artisanal gin. All in all, would certainly recommend!

Superb

I was a bit put off initially as I did not realise it was going to be blue! However, the flavour is right up there with some of the most expensive gins. Perhaps not as junipery as some but a really good flavoursome gin.

Surprising bouquet
12 February 2020

I got this free to review. I cannot say that I am one for gin, this being my first time of tasting, but if you are a gin drinker then The London No 1 gin is one to try. When I first opened the bottle, I was pleasantly surprised by its wonderful bouquet. It smells like an acqua cologne or sea salts is my closest description. I tried it straight, so that my review would not be tinted by the flavour of any mixers, like tonic. Initially, the gin tastes sweet, then the slight bitterness hits the palate, then comes the refreshing notes of citrus, followed by the hit of alcohol. It is quite smooth on the palate, and the bitter notes prick on the taste buds long after you finish the gin. The reason I gave a score of 4 is that I am not sure gin is for me, but that could be ... MoreI got this free to review. I will try it again with its mainstay tonic water and cardamom.

Pretty colour - pretty good taste. Nicely packaged, good alternative to give as a gift to stand out from the bargain basement supermarket brands. Pleasant with mixer light and refreshing typical gin botanical flower taste not overpowering very subtle. Would recommend. Please note the higher than average alcohol content - no need to be heavy handed with this one !
