Agatha Christie's most daring crime mystery - an early and particularly brilliant outing of Hercule Poirot, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, with its legendary twist, changed the detective fiction genre for ever. Roger Ackroyd knew too much. He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected also that someone had been blackmailing her. Really great condition. So good to be able to get almost any publication at the touch of a button. Even older books. I don't mind at all if it's been read already. In fact, I think I
prefer it.

This was agathas sixth book and the sixth of her novels I've read so far. I actually think all her books are amazing . This book includes poirot but not Hastings. The narrator or
main character is a doctor who lives with his sister in the village of kings Abbott who basically is a substitute Hastings. There are two murders including the wealthy
businessman Roger Ackroyd and the case of hiis missing stepson. Rogers house is full of family , staff and friends. Poirot is staying in town and is asked to help solve the
crime. This has a very clever plot and a wonderful surprise twist at the end. This novel is a classic for a reason and on crime readers lists of best crime novels .if ... Show more

I Cannot Believe I Hadn't Read Agatha Christie Before!
14 June 2023
Seriously. If you haven't read any Agatha Christie, START READING!! Even if you don't fall as devotedly in love with this woman's writing, I promise you that you will be hooked. It is a perfect whirlwind of twist and turns. As soon as a theory rests, as soon as you believe that it is true, it is blown off into the wind! I do love some decadent, language, but one of the things I did love about this book is that its wording was so accessible. Great way to start with Christie! It has started a new literary obsession of mine, and left me demanding for more.... Show more

Terrific!

When you think of classic Agatha Christie, this fits the bill. Published in 1926, it is her sixth novel and it's a good one. Probably one of her most famous and it includes Poirot. Set in Kings Abbott in the English countryside a wealthy businessman, Roger Ackroyd lives in a large country manor with his stepson, sister in law, neice and various servants. He is fond of a widowed neighbour Mrs Ferrars. She is found dead, Roger is found dead and his stepson is missing. This novel is different to others of Christie's as a general practitioner Dr Sheppard is the narrator of the story. He learns that the famous detective Poirot is vacationing in the village and they work together to solve the case. Hastings is not in this book but is mentioned. It is clever, methodical with a wonderful twist at the end. Having read all of the novels by Christie that come before this one , I wouldn't say that it stands out as better than all of the others as they are all extremely clever in different ways and all wonderful. But the twist at the end is what makes it memorable.I have found that The Secret Adversary, The Man in the Brown Suit, The Secret of Chimneys and The Mystery of the Blue Train all to be wonderful reads equal to if not better than this....
