The North Face Mens Dryzzle FutureLight Full Zip Pants TNF Black

(69 reviews)

The Dryzzle Trousers are back. This season they’re made using Futurelight - a customisable breathable-waterproof fabric. It’s engineered using nano-spinning technology that adds air permeability to a waterproof membrane for the first time. This makes the re-engineered Dryzzle Trousers a go-to three-layer protective shell on active adventures in wet and windy conditions. On top of this, they're made from recycled polyester and impregnated with a non-PFC durable water repellent, so it has excellent sustainability credentials, too. They feature a stretch-knit backer that, unlike other shells, doesn’t feel cool on bare skin. Full-length zips make light work of taking them on and off over boots and a base layer. Reinforced patches at the hem offer extra protection from scrapes with rock (or even your hiking boots). Pair them with the Dryzzle Futurelight Jacket for ultimate wet-weather protection while hiking.

Almost Great...Needs a Belt

Giving four stars because I haven't actually used them in the rain yet, but I have a lot of North Face gear so I'm certain they will be as waterproof as they say. I'm not giving five stars because like many other reviewers have said, I wish they had belt loops because they do seem as though they will sag down as worn. For $189 I would really like to see a belt system like you put in the $70 Paramount pants (which I have several pair of...my Go To pants). That belt system is great and you can cinch the pants tight. So anyway, like the look and feel and I'm sure they perform as advertised, but I want a belt.

I have bought many items directly from The North Face and have never had an issue. Order arrived on time and were exactly what I expected. I thought initially that maybe they were too small but they actually are just a great fit. I wore them hiking on the coast for 30+ miles in wet conditions and never had an issue. I could wear these all day long everyday. They are GREAT rain pants.

Great pants just one problem

I really liked these pants! I bought them for Cotopaxi. They fit great, they have a fly in the front and the material felt natural, etc. Here’s the problem, though, they are NOT “full zip”! The zipper only goes up to the waistband. Unfortunately, I had to return them because I needed a full zip version. The pair that I replaced them with are not nearly as nice.

Great unless you want to stay dry

Bought these specifically for an Antartica expedition. First time out in the zodiac came back with a wet posterior. Not good when it’s below zero and you are exposed for 1-1/2 hours. Spent rest of the trip with plastic bags stuck in my shorts. Will be returning them as soon as I get home.

Nice pants but weird fit

Futurelight is a fantastic technology and these pants come really close to being keepers. First, the good. Futurelight is comfortable, breathable and quiet when walking. It is easy to forget you have rain pants on when wearing the Dryzzles, not the case with my Marmot PreCips, which are not as comfortable or breathable and make a crinkling noise when walking. I also really appreciate that TNF offers them in short lengths. Unfortunately, there is also not-so-good. Unlike the PreCips, there are no side pockets. And, unlike the PreCips, these pants don't fully unzip all the way from top to bottom though they come close enough to a full zip that getting them on and off without removing your shoes seems completely feasible, particularly in combination with the front ... MoreFuturelight is a fantastic technology and these pants come really close to being keepers. So far, the positives of these pants easily outweigh the negatives. Unfortunately, there is one more negative and it is a deal killer: lifting my knees as though I am taking a big step up pulls the back of the pants down. This is not true of any of my other pants including the PreCips. It is a shame. For me, it ruins an otherwise excellent pair of pants.

OK unless you expect to stay dry

The pants have a high quality feel about them, fitted well and are well made. However the best water protection i could get from them is, as the name suggests, maybe in drizzle. Any water exposure beyond that and I got wet - or even saturated - after a decent downpour. Water simply passes straight through the fabric with anything other than just the slightest exposure. I purchased them in August for a polar hiking expedition and this was their first outing. Unfortunately, it will be their last.

Top notch with just a couple down side.
17 November 2022

Awesome pants. Looks great and feels good, not too thin and not too thick. A very versatile pants for quick access to legs with the length sized zipper and the water wick technology is a plus. The only 2 down side is they should've added side pockets instead of just one back one, would've been the perfect hike pants. The other down side but maybe not too bad is they also should've added the belt just like the half zip ones.

Very Disappointing
19 February 2021

Have used these a few times for hill-walking. They're wind-proof and very comfortable to wear and walk in but not very waterproof at all and that's the only reason for having them. Part of the problem is the full length zips which are not waterproof (you can easily test this under a tap), they have a storm flap but it only has studs top and bottom and if the rain is coming from behind or runs inside the storm flap it just runs through the zip. I also suspect leaks at the shaping creases at the knees. They're also not that breathable and can easily get condensation in ordinary walking.

What I wanted
30 October 2021

There’s one zippered pocket which of course is better than none, but I usually wear pants with pockets under them anyway, and unzip the side vent things basically where pockets normally would be. They snap at the bottom and you can zip down from the top, which is super nice for ventilation. So far they’ve kept my legs dry in long walks in heavy rain. Pants like this are always too long. If they were just a little shorter they’d look better. The snaps keep them from dragging on the ground or anything. I’m 5’9.5” with a normal shoe on, 160 lbs, lift weights and hike daily but a little extra weight around the middle. The small works for me but it is a little snug when buttoned with a shirt tucked in. The zips run all the way up from the bottom to the top, stopping shy ... MoreThere’s one zippered pocket which of course is better than none, but I usually wear pants with pockets under them anyway, and unzip the side vent things basically where pockets normally would be. The zips run all the way up from the bottom to the top, stopping shy of where your belt would be, if that makes sense. They don’t unzip 100% along the outside leg. Only almost. These are what I was looking for, I’m pleased. I’ll wear them with no other pants underneath on warmer rainy days, long Johns and more on others. They are pretty tough heavier material, not ultra light weight, but I didn’t really want something that would shred on a walk through the woods anyway.
