Buy at least half size up, very small, not waterproof

I am usually a 3.5 (36) in sandals and heels, and a 4 (37) in trainers. I ordered a size 4 and even only wearing a thin pair of socks my toes are pushing at the end when I walk. I only found this out after a long walk. They are a squeeze to put on (normal size legs!) but fine to get off. They are not waterproof.Other than that the sole is very well cushioned and they are lightweight.

Comfortable!

Last summer I bought (and returned) a dozen pairs of boots before I found these. I was looking for a boot that was comfortable, waterproof, and had good ankle support and traction for my daily walks on trails and gravel roads with my 3 large dogs. These boots check all the boxes and have held up well with daily wear other than one of the laces is starting to shred. I love these boots so much that I've kept wearing them (with thick will socks) even as the weather has turned to winter but anything below 30 F and my toes start to get pretty cold even when I'm moving at a quick pace. Size-wise I found these boots to run slightly narrow, I have average width feet, very high arches and a narrow heel. I generally wear a women's 8M in a street shoe, 8.5 M in a running shoe ... MoreLast summer I bought (and returned) a dozen pairs of boots before I found these. Ultimately I kept the women's 9 because they fit best with my Superfeet inserts and a thicker hiking sock. I also added a piece of moleskin to the inside of the right boot because there was a seam that was causing irritation on the back of my heel. Waterproofness has been tested (from dew to heavy rain) and my socks stayed dry. I would definitely buy another pair of these boots when they wear out and I'd love to have the insulated version if only they weren't leather.

Disappointed - not a long term investment

Loved these boots. Really comfortable and look modern. However have had them less than a year and the front has come away. Only used for dog walks in the woods, not even hard core hiking. Often buy North Face clothing which has been great but really disappointed with these boots. Expected they would last longer. The Merrill boots I had before lasted fifteen years. Whilst I wouldn't expect them to last that long, I feel less than a year is not acceptable for the price.

Good but definitely not waterproof
30 March 2024

I've worn these a few times now hiking usually 10-16 miles at a time. They are comfortable straight out of the box, no need to break them in. The grip is pretty good and do offer ankle support.I have only given 3 stars though because they definitely are not waterproof unfortunatley, it's a bit of a cheek stating that they are. The lack of waterproofing aside they do make great trainer style boots and will be my go to pair for the summer.

I want to love them to bits but...
18 September 2023

The boots are very soft and comfortable and my feet did not get tired on the first walk out (7K). I was looking for a more flexible sneaker-like shoe/boot to replace a much harder shoe from another brand that suddenly were painful to walk in.But the top of the boots eats the back of my calves/ankles and after 5K it resulted in a massive blister. Moreover there is a sewing right on my right ankle, where the tongue meets the shaft of the boot, that seems much harder than the same sewing on the opposite boot. This was fixed with a small cushion patch on the seem.I wanted to give the boots 5 stars but the comfort of the shaft is just not good.

I would buy this product again!
10 July 2024

Bought these for a 6 day trek on the UK coast. I can't express enough how well these boots performed! SO lightweight which is most important for me. Great traction even in muddy conditions, secure and comfortable ankle support, super comfortable underfoot allowing the foot to bend but offer stability. The toe bed is a little tight so I suggest sizing up a half size.

Not durable or waterproof
14 November 2022

To begin, I am a UPS driver. Now I know these are not "work" boots, although my entire day is driving and walking. Hiking boots have always been my favorite work in due to comfort and durability. I have worn these for about 4 weeks, now. 5 days a week, 8-9 hours, and each boot has several rips in them. I recently delivered on one slightly snowy/ rainy day and the rain went right through my boots and soaked my socks for the entire day. I do not recommend these boots for any frequent hikers. I was so excited to try out a new brand, I typically stick to timberlands which last 1-1.5 years, but I decided to go with North Face due to their style and brand reputation. I'm very upset at the amount of money I paid for a month of use. These did not live up to the waterproof ... MoreTo begin, I am a UPS driver. I'm very upset at the amount of money I paid for a month of use. These did not live up to the waterproof claim and the canvas material is not strong enough for daily use. As for the bottom tread, it still looks brand new! For anyone looking for comfort, these rock to your step for quick and easy strides. I do appreciate that about these boots.

Not sure
20 September 2024

In the meanwhile I have 3 pairs of the Vective Futurelight shoes. Buy them one size bigger and you'll have a comfortable hike. The only thing is that the soles only last for approx 350-400km. After that, the grip is gone (and you left a lot of plastic in nature..). I tried to consult TNF about this, didn't work out. So the design is perfect and comfortable but the used materials are not sustainable and long lasting. As I'm an enthusiastic hiker, a pair doesn't last long. So I decided to change brands..

Soggy, sore feet
5 May 2023

These boots manage the impressive feat of being neither breathable nor waterproof. Usually you get one or the other, but not these. Yesterday they soaked through after brushing my foot against some wet grass, so it's not even like they were fully immersed. They also take ages to dry, even in a nice warm hostel drying room - I'm genuinely wondering if the waterproof breathable membrane is in the wrong way round somehow, and just trapping water in there.Fit-wise, they're very difficult to get on, even having sized up as usual for North Face, and are tight in weird places. This is made worse by a lace closure system that is very difficult to adjust - whether that be to tighten or to loosen. This means your feet end up sliding forward within the boot, and you end up ... MoreThese boots manage the impressive feat of being neither breathable nor waterproof. This is made worse by a lace closure system that is very difficult to adjust - whether that be to tighten or to loosen. This means your feet end up sliding forward within the boot, and you end up with sore, squashed toes and less stability.I have the white ones, which stain as soon as you even look at mud, although that was always going to happen (and is presumably why that colour has been discontinued). The fabric is also not particularly hard wearing - I've only worn them on three (admittedly big) walks and it is already looking like it is starting to wear through just where the plastic bit over the toe ends on the sides, and I've mostly been walking on hard packed mud with a few stones, not rough gravel. That said, I made it up the Pen y Fan Horseshoe in them, and stayed on the path on a very windy day on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, so the grip is good, and the sole has pretty good cushioning, but the pain in your toes more than makes up for that. Overall, I would highly recommend considering the Exploris leather boots instead - I got some at the same time as these and I find them better in every single way. Whatever you do, make sure you try them one and that you can adjust them to lock your foot in place properly

Very helpful for arthritic feet
27 June 2022

The vectiv shoes are helping me walk more comfortably with arthritis, so I decided to try the hiking boots. With my old shoes I couldn't go a mile without pain, now I go about 3 miles before I notice it. The rocking motion is subtle but it must help, the toe joint doesn't bend as much. I have to put in high arch insoles--the insoles they came with are thin and flimsy. Happily my foot still fits ok with the insole. Both the shoes and boots feel stable with good grip, I don't turn my ankles despite the large amount of cushioning. But man are they expensive. This is the most I've ever paid for a pair of hiking boots, and they're not even leather. Normally I wait to buy things a year later and half price, but I needed a solution. I hope they last. They also seem better ... MoreThe vectiv shoes are helping me walk more comfortably with arthritis, so I decided to try the hiking boots. They also seem better for daytrips and summer trips--they feel like a high top running shoe--not a situation like backpacking, where you'd want a sturdier boot.
