Comfortable!

Last summer I bought (and returned) a dozen pairs of boots before I found these. I was looking for a boot that was comfortable, waterproof, and had good ankle support and traction for my daily walks on trails and gravel roads with my 3 large dogs. These boots check all the boxes and have held up well with daily wear other than one of the laces is starting to shred. I love these boots so much that I've kept wearing them (with thick will socks) even as the weather has turned to winter but anything below 30 F and my toes start to get pretty cold even when I'm moving at a quick pace. Size-wise I found these boots to run slightly narrow, I have average width feet, very high arches and a narrow heel. Ultimately I kept the women's 9 because they fit best with my Superfeet inserts and a thicker hiking sock. I also added a piece of moleskin to the inside of the right boot because there was a seam that was causing irritation on the back of my heel. Waterproofness has been tested (from dew to heavy rain) and my socks stayed dry. I would definitely buy another pair of these boots when they wear out and I'd love to have the insulated version if only they weren't leather.

Fantastic comfort!

I bought these to try a different version of The North Face Vectiv line of hiking boots. The Vectiv Exploris has a much more rounded sole - sort of like the old Skechers walking shoes with the rocker sole. These are not quite as rounded but still feel very supportive and still have a little push when you walk. Like an assist when moving and really kind of different. Anyway, they just feel really cushy and you can barely feel any rocks under foot but the traction is outstanding. I haven't had a chance to try them in really wet conditions but they seem to be able to handle the slick surfaces. The best part in my opinion is that they feel like soft sneakers but are supportive like a regular hiking boot without all the stiffness. No break in at all is required. Loved this hiker right out of the box. Nice enough to be a daily shoe. I've worn several other top brands and this one is by far the most comfortable! First hike wasn't tremendously long at 6.1 miles but was a steep incline going over slick rocks, mud, puddles and thru several inches of snow. Traction was great and my feet stayed warm and dry in mid 30° with just a light wool hiking sock which was amazing since my feet always get cold. The flexibility is a huge plus. First hike/first time wearing and my feet were not one bit sore the next day! I usually half size up, but went with my regular size and had just a little room at the end... no toes banging the end coming down the steep decline which is usually an issue for me with narrow feet. Plan to grab another pair!

I love these so much I'm getting a back up pair!
19 November 2022

Super comfortable, light weight. I have bone on bone arthritis in my ankle and these shoes are the most comfortable pair of shoes that I own. I normally wear a size 9 medium in women's and had to size up to a 9.5 medium. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars is that next to a rubberized detail on the side of my pinky toe, the material is wearing through. There has never been any friction from activities, just normal walk wear.

Killed my achilles
17 October 2022

I have the shoe version of these and I LOVE them. I have plantar fiscitis that sometimes flares up and the shape and cushion in these is excellent for treating and preventing it. I wanted more support so I tried the boots. I saw other reviewers noted that they were tight around the ankles, but I figured I'd try them anyway since I have small ankles. Oh my were those other reviewers right! After 5 minutes on the trail these were killing my achilles. They also rub my ankles in other weird ways. North Face really needs to work on the seams in their shoes. I wanted so much to love these, but unfortunately, they go back. Another note: these have the same tread as the shoes I love so much, and the tread on those wore down after only 2 months of weekend wear. i can't wear ... MoreI have the shoe version of these and I LOVE them. Not durable or waterproof
14 November 2022

To begin, I am a UPS driver. Now I know these are not "work" boots, although my entire day is driving and walking. Hiking boots have always been my favorite work in due to comfort and durability. I have worn these for about 4 weeks, now. 5 days a week, 8-9 hours, and each boot has several rips in them. I recently delivered on one slightly snowy/ rainy day and the rain went right through my boots and soaked my socks for the entire day. I do not recommend these boots for any frequent hikers. I was so excited to try out a new brand, I typically stick to timberlands which last 1-1.5 years, but I decided to go with North Face due to their style and brand reputation. I'm very upset at the amount of money I paid for a month of use. These did not live up to the waterproof ... MoreTo begin, I am a UPS driver. As for the bottom tread, it still looks brand new! For anyone looking for comfort, these rock to your step for quick and easy strides. I do appreciate that about these boots.

Not for me
31 July 2022

Nice looking shoe. Very comfortable until I started really moving around in them. I was assisting Archeologists with a site up here in Alaska...Southeast Alaska. The upper ankle part in the back killed me. I tried loosening the laces, then I had to unlace to like a low top shoe, the back part still rubbed. The shoe is cushioned well so didn't leave blisters. It's almost like the high top was not giving, not flexible so it pushed against my lower calve and became sore. I so wanted these to work....I had to give to my daughter and she loves them....I guess the skinny calves and ankles are perfect for this boot. FYI I don't have cankles either, they are just not for me I need low tops.

Poor quality & fit

There are multiple issues with these boots-- I kept waiting for them to break in and they never did. As other reviewers have stated, the ankle is extremely uncomfortable unless it is tied very loose, which defeats the purpose of high top boots. Also a problem noted by others, the inner eyelets on top catch on each other causing you to trip while walking which can be dangerous on the trail. One reviewer said these got caught and fell off on their shoes, and I understand why.Interestingly, the grey foam is extremely fragile and mine is torn to shreds from hiking 4-5 times. So disappointing for this brand and price of shoe. Soggy, sore feet

These boots manage the impressive feat of being neither breathable nor waterproof. Usually you get one or the other, but not these. Yesterday they soaked through after brushing my foot against some wet grass, so it's not even like they were fully immersed. They also take ages to dry, even in a nice warm hostel drying room - I'm genuinely wondering if the waterproof breathable membrane is in the wrong way round somehow, and just trapping water in there.Fit-wise, they're very difficult to get on, even having sized up as usual for North Face, and are tight in weird places. This is made worse by a lace closure system that is very difficult to adjust - whether that be to tighten or to loosen. This is made worse by a lace closure system that is very difficult to adjust - whether that be to tighten or to loosen. This means your feet end up sliding forward within the boot, and you end up with sore, squashed toes and less stability.I have the white ones, which stain as soon as you even look at mud, although that was always going to happen (and is presumably why that colour has been discontinued). The fabric is also not particularly hard wearing - I've only worn them on three (admittedly big) walks and it is already looking like it is starting to wear through just where the plastic bit over the toe ends on the sides, and I've mostly been walking on hard packed mud with a few stones, not rough gravel. That said, I made it up the Pen y Fan Horseshoe in them, and stayed on the path on a very windy day on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, so the grip is good, and the sole has pretty good cushioning, but the pain in your toes more than makes up for that. Overall, I would highly recommend considering the Exploris leather boots instead - I got some at the same time as these and I find them better in every single way. Whatever you do, make sure you try them one and that you can adjust them to lock your foot in place properly

Very helpful for arthritic feet
27 June 2022

The vectiv shoes are helping me walk more comfortably with arthritis, so I decided to try the hiking boots. With my old shoes I couldn't go a mile without pain, now I go about 3 miles before I notice it. The rocking motion is subtle but it must help, the toe joint doesn't bend as much. I have to put in high arch insoles--the insoles they came with are thin and flimsy. Happily my foot still fits ok with the insole. Both the shoes and boots feel stable with good grip, I don't turn my ankles despite the large amount of cushioning. But man are they expensive. This is the most I've ever paid for a pair of hiking boots, and they're not even leather. Normally I wait to buy things a year later and half price, but I needed a solution. I hope they last.
