The Silent Patient [Book]

Not often I would say this but this book was a real page turner. I can often lose interest in a book if I can work out the ending part way into a book, not with this one. No spoilers but this is one to buy. I read it while I was cooking, even when vacuuming that’s how compelling this book is. I am a great fan of WOB and it is now my go to for books. I have been able to get out of print books and am very happy with the service from WOB.

Devoured in less than 24 hours…The Silent Patient stirred up quite the hype on booktok, and this is what encouraged me to buy a copy when I found myself wondering into Readers Warehouse' Tokai branch with no idea how I got there (okay, I had every intention of going because I was in the area and I just can’t help myself because I’m a relentless bibliophile 📚)Let me just start off by saying that Crime Fiction isn’t a genre I particularly enjoy reading, because, somehow or another, it becomes just too predictable for me to truly enjoy the story. And after marking it as ‘currently reading' on my Goodreads account and only then seeing the onslaught of 1-Star reviews, my enthusiasm and excitement to give this one a go was trampled ruthlessly …I'll admit; I made the hasty assumption I likely wouldn’t finish it because I doubted it would piqué AND retain my attention after the first several pages ...I’m happy to say that even though it received FAR too many bad reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was thrilled that The Silent Patient was my first ever Crime Fiction read!! I’m happy to say that I’m now open to exploring this genre even more 😌It’s written terrifically - it’s easy to read and the chapters are short, making it easy to follow and keep one interested as to what happens next. This was a complete page-turner for me and kept me enthralled to the very end. The characters are compelling and intriguing and entirely suspicious and conspicuousWith morally grey compasses, they all grab your attention as you try to psychoanalyse each and every one of them from the pagesDefinitely worth the hype!The only reason I haven’t given it 5-Stars is because I predicted who the culprit was before the author revealed tidbits of who they really were. But, I must admit, the author had me doubting myself on several occasions, but alas, I was right and knew several chapters from the end who the real villain was… and that’s my fault alone, only because I have an overactive imagination and jump to my own conclusions way before I should…That said, knowing who the real villain was made what I’d read even more chilling and left me entirely baffled… talk about hiding the villain in plain sight...If you want to read a fast-paced suspense-filled psychological novel that will keep you drawing conclusions but then have you second guessing yourself (a million times over) and scratching your head while muttering “whaaat” or “fvcking hell” or “I bloody knew it!”, then definitely give this a go and ignore the 1-Star reviews because this is written BEAUTIFULLY and the storyline is compelling!

A great read!

I had trouble even starting this book because of the feel of the cover. It was a sensory issue for me.Every time I would touch the cover of this book, it would take my breath away and my fingers would feel sore after touching the cover.I had to put a book jacket over my copy so I could read it, but once I got the feeling of the cover out of the way, I could read it and I'm glad I did, because it was so worth it!My favorite part was when all the truth came out in a few chapters and we learned who the shadowy man was. I had to read those chapters a couple of times because I was like, ok what?!? Hold on! lolGreat read! Lots of twists and well hidden turns. Highly recommend!

Brilliant Plot twist!

I bought this a week before Christmas. Started it Christmas morning & finished this book within hours. I couldn’t put it down. The story line is so intense, interesting and brilliantly written. The plot twist sneaks up on you and leaves you absolutely shocked. I am afraid that I will never experience the feel this level of excitement again in a book.

Cliche and unimaginative women

To be frank, Ive started avoiding fiction novels centered around women that are written by men. I had hopes this would surpass the usual cliches but sadly it fell into most all of them. Spoilers ahead. It falls straight into the cheating wife storyline I feel is in every novel. All the women of worth to the author are described as vivacious and beautiful or maternal figures to the main character. I cant find any depth even to our tittle card silent patient to validate her outside of being a tragically attractive woman. Of course she gets a backstory involving sexual assault to attempt any depth to her character and past. The author tries to show how happy her marriage is by having her write constantly about how every argument end with them in bed. Definitely worth a read!

I'd seen mixed reviews of this book, but one of my clients raved about it so I gave it a try. Personally, I really enjoyed it!I loved the diary entries - little flashbacks to Alicia's life in the run up to her husband's murder, giving more insight with each one.I couldn't work out which of the main characters I should like or dislike until the end and I quite liked that, tbh!Definitely worth a read, but as I said before this book does divide opinions!

Easy read

This book is an easy read. Quick chapters. Finally getting back into reading novels after having my kids, so this was a nice one to get back into the rhythm. The plot wasn’t as twisted as some make it seem. Kinda predictable. It all comes full circle. This book I think is better for young adults- 20s. If you’ve read plenty of thriller books, this one doesn’t send chills. But I have an appreciation for the work.

Silent Patient

I’d give this 3.5 stars. This book is intriguing but also very anticlimactic, except the very end. I don’t often read psychological thrillers so the plot twist definitely got me but more avid readers will pick up on it beforehand. The ending is left open to interpretation, which I didn’t mind but I know a lot people have issue with that. Overall, I liked it.
