Still one of Ronald's favorite books of all time! Set in a virus-decimated US, King's thrilling American fantasy epic, is a Classic. First come the days of the virus. Then come the dreams. Dark dreams that warn of the coming of the dark man. The apostate of death, his worn-down boot heels tramping the night roads. The warlord of the charnel house and Prince of Evil. His time is at hand. His empire grows in the west and the Apocalypse looms. When a man crashes his car into a petrol station, he brings with him the foul corpses of his wife and daughter. He dies and it doesn't take long for the virus which killed him to spread across America and the world.

I am not a king fan, but this book is ok. Music references and humour reduces listener boredom of hearing about pandemic disease. As usual,King is wordy .If you are not familiar with viruses and how they spread King provides a lay persons background. It will keep you away from crowded places. Mask wearing is optional. The storyline is good (god) versus evil (devils). The good people are redeemed and will start the USA again in Maine or someplace in the western areas. The Stand is good beach reading with a warm Coors beer.

Book is easily a 5 star item! Purchased on 5/19/24, item originally showed arrival between 5/28 and 6/3. Received item on 6/10. I understand that it was coming from the UK, but the shipping information should have been updated or shown the later date. Definitely would buy from seller again, just give plenty of time to arrive if the item is a gift as this was.

This monumental work by Stephen King has many die-hard fans, maybe even we can all them a separate fandom group within the fans of Stephen King's readers. I prefer his other works, but appreciate the scope and scale of this post-apocalyptical saga. Unfortunatelly, the astonishingly huge number of characters, threads and places made it difficult for me to memorize all of them and follow when I was reading the paper version of this book years ago. In case of the audiobook, it's even more difficult. Narrator does a great job, but you need to have a truly wonderful memory (or know the story by heart) to really enjoy it.

A good clean copy of the book. Well packed. Arrived earlier than expected, am extremely pleased with it. Thank you.
What an amazing book! While it is huge, at over 1150 pages, the character development and background is second to none. I am not even a Stephen King fan but he sure does know how to introduce and flesh out his characters. The story progresses rapidly as well, especially considering the book length. I definitely recommend this book. Much more interesting pace that similar sized books like Lord of the Rings, although now the story is dated since it was set in the 1990s.
This book has been recommended so many times, I have lost count. I am not a Stephen King fan per se, but I am always interested in how authors unfold their tales and what devices they use to build interest. That said, it took one more mention of the book from an old friend to make me add it to my list. Sadly I only have a few minutes each day since I am otherwise tending to my very young children, but on page 408 at the moment and I am enjoying the book for what it is. It's Stephen King. It may not top the list for literary fiction - if you want to get technical, but he's a good storyteller. So far, I would recommend it.
I ordered this book as a gift for my niece and it came in pristine shape. It looks like i went to a book store and carefully picked out the best copy and carefully brought it back home. Thanks to the vendor for selling quality merchandise
Upon receiving the the book, I noticed that the flaps on the packaging were not secured. My book couldve fallen out of the package during any point of the trip to my house!! Next time, put some tape on the packaging so there isnt a risk of losing a product that I purchased!! Ontop of that, some of my books pages are bent and I havent even turned a page. All Ive done is pick up the book and inspect it. Im honestly not surprised that I have bent pages on my BRAND NEW book after seeing the packaging. I am extremely disappointed in the handling of my product and I WILL NOT be purchasing from this store again.
Im a constant reader of Steven King but I truly almost put him down after he re-released The Stand touting it as the original uncut version. That was just wasnt so. I was so excited when the uncut version came out...I couldnt wait. But to my horror no pun intended, King made multiple references to things that simply did not exist in 1978 when the Stand was originally released. Spuds MacKenzie? Freddy Krueger? AIDS? I could go on and on. So clearly he did the re-write after and passed it of as the original. I was so mad! Ive since forgiven my all time favorite writer for just trying to make a buck but this is the original Stand! And by far his true masterpiece that he simply should have left alone.
I was interested to read this book because it was about a pandemic (among other things). But it is far too long and there was too much extraneous information and a lot of going backwards and forwards that became confusing. I read that Stephen King actually made the book longer following its first publication, and republished. I would have preferred the shorter version, I think. I admit I stopped reading about three quarters of the way through, though. Couldn't finish it. I've never read any other of Stephen King's books, so perhaps this was not a good one to start with.
