THERM-A-REST Compressible Pillow Cinch

$54.00

(1,067 reviews)

Ultra-soft and expandable, the Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow is ideally suited for travel and family camping. Fully compressed, the pillow takes up surprisingly little room in your car, pack, or luggage and fluffs up quickly to provide a comfortable headrest. An integrated cinch cord gives you the say in the firmness of the pillow. Two layers of upcycled foam that would otherwise go to waste provide a comfortable, even surface. The soft partially-recycled polyester comfort ensures next-to-skin comfort. When not in use, the pillow packs into itself for compact storage. Note: To optimize the initial loft of the Therm-a-Rest Pillow's compressible fill, it is advisable to fluff the pillow by running it in your dryer for 10 minutes before use. Storing the pillow in an uncompressed fashion when not in use will extend the life expectancy of the fill's loft. The Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow is available in your choice of size and color.

Almost better than a regular pillow…..!

Don’t be alarmed when you first get this pillow - it looks really tragic! Bung it in the washer then the dryer and it fills out beautifully. I’ve used mine on plane to travel to UK and now on its 2nd week of daily use - it’s still awesome!!!! It’s crazy comfy and I love the ability to adjust the firmness. My only (tiny) gripe is that the new version doesn’t roll up quite as small so takes up a bit more space but that’s not a dealbreaker for me.Totally recommend this product and wish I’d got one years ago!

Best camping pillow (I've tried almost all of them)

This pillow doesn't pack up as compact as some others. That is really the only con. After buying and trying countless camping pillows, this one is definitely the one that I'll be taking with me.I tried both the small and large sizes, and here are my findings (which may vary for you):-The small, when cinched up, is just about the right loft for back sleeping.-The large, when not cinched, is just about the right loft for back sleeping.-The large, when cinched up, is adequate for side sleeping. The large is great for car camping, but too big for backpacking. The small is great for a backpacking luxury item. I'll be also taking one of the cheap inflatable pillows to occasionally use underneath of it, providing a little more loft.

Best pillow in the planet.

I have had a couple of these pillows in the past. I bought the small version for backpacking and liked it so much that I bought a medium to use at home about 10 or so years ago. The foam inside (which is salvaged from the ultralight Thermarest sleeping pads) lends itself to shaping the pillow for maximum comfort. My wife commandeered my old medium sleeping pad and sewed a nice cover on it to use on the sofa. I didn't protest but rather bought an extra-large sized Thermarest pillow which is almost too large to be comfortable so I bought another medium. It is perfect and I never wake up with a sore neck.

Comfy night's sleep!
25 December 2022

I picked this up as part of my efforts to improve my sleep system and finally get a good night's sleep. (I love camping and backpacking but historically sleep terribly.) This pillow is such a luxury. I had been sleeping on an inflatable pillow from Outdoor Vitals. It was good but not great. Even with the pillow in my mummy hood, it was still sliding around all night. This thermarest pillow is much more similar to a real bed pillow. There are cords to tighten to make the pillow firmer or softer. I got a medium to backpack with it. The extra weight is worth it for me. Backpacking should be fun! Anyway, this pillow is a huge upgrade - and the mushroom pattern is cute!

Give it a rest… a Therm-a-rest!
30 March 2023

The only thing that seems to bring me any joy in this world that’s filled with horrible news and some sort of crisis happening daily is sleep. I get to escape to my own magical little world where I can chase animals and date super models. So why skimp on a pillow am I right? I have own every sort of camp and travel pillow I can think of. Memory foam, air filled, pudding filled to name a few. Eventually all that research and money led me to the therm-a-rest. This ain’t my first therm-arrest rodeo though. I have had their compression pillow before but this one is different. This pillow improves upon what the others lacked. This pillow adds a cinch in order to add firmness to your pillow or let it be softer than a cloud. I have had their compression pillow before but this one is different. This pillow improves upon what the others lacked. This pillow adds a cinch in order to add firmness to your pillow or let it be softer than a cloud. The old version made it feel like my giant head was just surrounded by pieces of up-cycled foam as my head laid on the hard ground. This version I can pull the cinch cord and densely pack that wonderful up-cycled foam so it supports my huge head and holds it up off the ground. That’s all that matters and it’s a game changer. It’s the closest I’ll get to sleeping like I am at home. I don’t care about weights or how small it packs. Sleep king wonderfully is more important than pack weight or portability. If you can’t be comfortable while camping or road tripping or just anywhere you could use a pillow then why bother if you are gonna be miserable. So do yourself a favor and buy this pillow. Your head will thank you.

Great, but PLEASE bring back the previous design!
3 March 2023

Sleep is vital when backpacking so I don't mind that this pillow doesn't compress as well as the others and have never had an issue with lumpiness - just let the pillow lay open for a few days before you use it for the first time. I, unfortunately, lost my old one and had to order the new design, and this is where the flaw comes in.Pros: This pillow is extremely comfortable and goes with me on planes, camping trips, and sometimes even serves as a replacement for hotel pillows.Cons: The new design! I understand the cinch drawstrings to give it more cushion, but the add-on of a loop directly through the center of where you're placing your face is very annoying. It also does not pack as tightly anymore. Really hoping they go back to the old design!

Huge and not UL, not even L, but the best (size M)
2 February 2023

I've tried this one in size S and M, as well as a few of the most recommended competitors like the fillo. A little begrudgingly, I'm crowning the Therm-a-Rest Compressible (size M!) the winner. The comfort is just worth the ridiculous bulk and weight. Lack of pad straps is a bummer but this pillow slides around less than inflatables. Stuffing a small S2S pillowcase with my puffy is a close second in comfort and of course is way smaller and lighter but for a dedicated pillow, this one has no real competition.I did have a fraying thread on the S, the construction quality is decent but not bombproof.Have used more than 5, less than 10 nights.

Not as good as the previous model
21 April 2023

I have the old (non-cinch) model and this new version pales in comparison. The foam felt different—instead of chunks of foam it felt more like cheap cushion stuffing that you can buy at the craft store, and as a result it just wasn’t as supportive even after cinching it up. When I did try to adjust the support, the pillow of course got smaller so my regular size ended up being 3/4 of the size I wanted. As a slide sleeper, I usually put my hand under the pillow but the cinch hook thing is directly in the center of the gray side of the pillow and so it became super uncomfortable. Returned it as soon as I could and am hoping Therm-a-rest brings back the old version!

Not too bad
19 October 2022

If you're not super short on space I would probably go with the regular size. The small is about the size of an airplane pillow, which is great but it sadly doesn't have all that much filling. The cinch cords allow you to compress the pillow a little more to get a bit more firmness, but that also means that the pillow as a whole shrinks in size. You can also use these to compress the pillow for packing. I will keep it, as I got it on sale, but kind of wish I had the regular size instead for just a little more filling. Overall it feels nice and is comfortable. Add this to your deluxe camping comfort items.

best pillow
16 August 2023

This is the best backpacking pillow I’ve ever used. The foam does not get flat when it is cold, like the REI version of this pillow, so you get loft and comfort all night. The only cons I have with this pillow, and the reason I deducted the star, are because the cover is not removable for washing. (This is gross, because I am often sweaty or dirty, when camping and backpacking), and it does not pack down very small. However, not backing down very small is expected due to the materials used, and to me the space and weight of this pillow are worth not having an uncomfortable night sleep on an inflated pillow.
