Perfect for backcountry luxury or just staying over at a friends house, I bring it on picnics in the city for friends to lay on too because it's so easy to bring along. This is the first thermarest I bought after trying several pads of friends' and I love it! With the chair kit you will be LIVING. I have back problems too so am just so suprised I love it this much! Was really debating between this and the topo luxe but $60CAD more for an extra inch of air felt like a lot for me as I just graduated uni. A few months later I've ordered the z-lite sol pad (egg carton patterned accordian one) on sale for $45 to pair with in the cold, add .75 of an inch to my bed AND have a way more durable pad to take out to any spot I'd be worried about my inflatable in.The pump sack ... Comfortable and good insulation from ground. It took some practice to use the inflating sag with come with the pad. I have the regular wide and took me under 10 minutes to filled up (first time user). The wing value is very well designed but I'm not sure if will work with most of the powered pump on the market except their own micro pump (cost $50). Build quality is very good. And only time will tell. The biggest complaint I have is the material is VERY EASY to stain and there is no liner available.

We just started camping last summer, and after a few successful trips with just our sleeping bags invested in these for more comfortable nights. These are indeed MUCH more comfortable than just sleeping on the ground, but are also not even close to sleeping in your own bed. We only took them car camping, so TBD on how well they work when backpacking. Like the pros and cons here say, they are insanely easy to inflate and deflate (without any fancy equipment), and when inflated you can lay down and not be touching the ground at all - they're pretty comfortable! The cushioning is great, but the mattresses themselves are pretty thin + slippery, so you have to hold pretty still to avoid falling off. I'm also a side sleeper, which is definitely not ideal for camping in ... Very comfortable pad. Easy to inflate & deflate. The pump bag is big so it is pretty fast to pump up the pad. The regular wide width was great because I didn’t roll off compared to sleeping on a 20” wide pad. I agree with other reviewers that it sounds like a chip bag when you are sleeping on top of it but you get used to it.
I've used this 5-6 times now and it has held up really well. It is pretty quick to inflate with the bag once you get the hang of it, stays inflated throughout the night, and packs down SUPER small/light. If your priority is a super lightweight pad that still has cushion (and you sleep on your back or are on the shorter/smaller side) this definitely fits the bill.HOWEVER.I really regret my purchase :( Sleep is a big priority for me so I splurged on good quality but it just doesn't work for me. I am a side-sleeping 5'10" woman and my knees fall off the side or I end up on my face off the edge when I roll over. It is lofty enough to keep my bony hips off the ground, which is great! But it is SO slim, it really doesn't work for a tall side sleeper. I took this on a 4-day canoe trip and only slept decently on the last night after I was SO exhausted and had some bedtime whisky. I am considering selling this and looking for something wider even if it means adding weight / size - it's worth it for a good night's sleep.
I'll start by saying I like Thermarest products, and I've never had a quality issue before with anything I've bought from them. Unfortunately this was not the case with this sleeping pad. For starters the included pump sack does not attach properly to the valve on the pad. second, and more concerning, was the fact that it seems as though the pad is delaminating. I will obviously be returning it, and I'm sure the 3 stars might seem puzzling, but I honestly think I just got a dud and the product in general (design, weight, packability etc.) is actually quite good.
I returned this sleeping Pad. It is noisy from the internal material, like trying to sleep on a bag of potato chips. It took 10x as long to blow up compared to other pad, It is not self inflating, and it did not hold air as long as other pads even brand new out of the box. Honestly, I was surprised it got into production, it is just not designed well. I wanted to like it, but I sent it back.
I’ve used this pad several times now and have been very happy. Before I landed here, I purchase several other brands, both less and more expensive. Each one had either slow leaks or killed my hips.I’m a side, stomach sleeper and this fit perfectly. The only thing to be mindful of is the R value. I was looking for a 3 season, warm weather pad so it wasn’t a deal breaker, but it should be noted.Either way, side/stomach sleeper in Southeast for a three season (maybe not shoulder season), this is perfect. If you’re going to push the temp, may want to look for higher R value—I plan on purchasing another Therm-a-rest for this reason.
I already own the "regular" size pad, and it was super awesome. As a side sleeper I needed a little more room, so I upgraded to regular wide. It isn't THAT much bigger or heavier so it was worth it for me. The twist-lock adjustment valve is very handy and lets you do micro-adjustments to inflation level to dial in your comfort, and the build quality is solid.
I intended to use this for group car camping events. I didn't realize everyone around me needed to hear every movement I make. Whatever Therm-a-Rest has been putting inside their air mattresses to make them so crinkly needs to be optional. I assume it is a heat reflecting layer, but not every mattress needs to be heat insulating. I was looking for a comfortable, cool mattress of a luxurious size, but I can't use this one. I like the new air inlet and the new inflation bag. I like this size of this thing, and it's quite comfortable, even for sleeping on my side. But it is too noisy.
