An excellent camera. Not so good software.

This is an excellent dash cam with a terrible companion app. Thinkware need to do better. For such a premium product, having a buggy app is very disappointing. The camera records beautifully with crystal clear footage in 4K quality at 30fps. I have scaled it down to 2k for 60fps but it looks just as good as the full blown 4K. The rear camera records in 2K I believe and looks just as good as the front. This kit comes with a hardwire kit which is a nice addition and not costing the buyer an extra cost with having to buy it separate. Start up your car after being gone for a bit and at power up the camera will tell you how many events it recorded for you to review. Nice touch.Overall this camera is worth the asking price, yielding you two high quality cameras but as mentioned the companion app needs a real retooling. Connection issues are frequent and having to jump between WiFi connections in your phone settings and then the app, going back and forth to get the app to trigger the connection gets old.

Good quality videos.

Installation was a nightmare with the smart phone. If I have to hear “ connect with the wifi starting with thinkware” one more time, I am gonna smash my head thru the windshield, lol. Took 2 hrs and over 20 attempts to repeatedly reformat the sd card, uninstall and reinstall the app, just to try to get it connect with my phone. Google suggests that a firmware update may improve connectivity. But for you to upgrade the firmware, it has to connect to the phone. It’s like, to hatch a egg, use a chicken; and to get the chicken, hatch the egg. It would connect and then disconnect randomly while you are setting up your app for the first time. Or it would connect but then it says no wifi found even though it says it’s connect to the thinkware wifi. What would be a good option is that when it’s connected to a hotspot like in your car or your home wifi, that you can use it to live view or to access the files. But nope. While you can configure the device to a hotspot like your house wifi, unless that hotspot is from your phone, you can’t access the files. Again this is too bad. If it had this feature, or to access public wifi, like Shaw pass points, then you can monitor your car if you were parked, for example, at a shopping centre and you receive a alert saying a incident happened. What’s the point of a live view if you have to be within 15 ft of the car anyways ? You can see the live action happening with your own eyes instead of live view. The default settings for overwrite should be non incident or non parking versus a default over-writing of these important files.Having said that. The video quality seems good for both the front and rear cameras. I have not yet used the pc viewer yet so I cannot comment on that functionality and user experience. What would be good too is if the parking switch is more accessible and maybe on the device itself versus having to use a pin to move the switch and you have to crouch down to the ODB port to do it. I would like to be able to easily switch off parking mode when it’s parked at home in my garage, but easily switch it back on when I park in public places. Even better yet is if there was a flip screen or something so that while you are driving you can actually see what you are recording. So much for the product. Now with blackboxmycar customer service. They provide superb service and follow up. Other than me wanting the device, it was their professionalism that made me decide to buy this product.

It came really fast in perfect condition and was exactly what I ordered. Perfect! The camera was relatively easy to install and works great. The voice talks a little too much but it is nice to know that it is working every time I start and turn off my car. I can't see license plates with the night view while its parked but I can view the cars really well so... The images during the day are amazingly clear. The parking mode catches everything, even when the cats set off the outdoor lights and every neighbor coming and going. My only issue is that the sd card is really hard to get in and out. So far it's great, but I have only been using it for about a week. I'll update it after a few months go by or if I catch something good. My car, after I installed it started to automatically blink a red light in the dash when parked I don't know how it happened but I looked it up and it said it was the alarm system showing it was activated. Honda CR-V 2022. I have the front and rear camera, I installed myself only issue was I was scared to get around the airbag in the side window. Everything else the lining pops off really easy and right back in. I used a soft wooden spatula to get the wires in. There are plenty of helpful videos on youtube. I got the fuse taps from my local autozones they were the low profile small ones just an fyi you will also need 2 matching fuses to the ones you are tapping. Good luck! my list of supplies (masking tape, dry erase marker to mark window where I wanted the cameras, sturdy wire and string to pull it through the wire cover in the back hatch door, wooden spatula, and outdoor velcro m3 tape to replace the m3 tape it comes with because I wanted to be able to detach it easier if I need to., two wire taps, two matching fuses, and a fuse tester) Use accessory fuse to the extra outlets like the cigarette lighter for the accessory wire as long as it shows off while car was off. The fuse puller was in my fuse box on the lid under the hood. My suggestion is wear knee pads and do this in a covered area.

In short - the camera is really good - 4k &2k recording for the front, 2k for the rear. For $650 regular price it should be next to flawless....but it is not. Is it worth it? Definitely not - but there will be tradeoffs for other brands. Night time video was most important to me and the general consensus from online reviews are that Thinkware is superior. I also like the battery protection options, which are not available with other brands to the same level of granular detail, the ability to set battery voltage (max 12.3) was the determining factor and why I bought it.Pros:-night vision is great; this is what you will gain in performance over cheap cameras as most will be fine during the day. The $40 camera another reviewer cited will in no way shape or form be equal to night time performance.-While the camera module itself is fixed, the lens at the bottom DOES TILT - however it is literally the least intuitive to figure out, I just happened to come across it on Google-Features like wifi app integration, selectable quality/frame rate, firmware updates, parking mode, battery protection, video over-write selection depending on category-battery protection right down to selectable voltage & what months are the coldest-App & firmware appears to be frequently updated (more on this below)-includes both 12v & hardwiring cables-built in GPS is nice (volume is adjustable and can be disabled), wish it displayed the co-ordinates on the video or had an option to select it on/off-comes with a polarization filter to improve optical quality; and its separate so you can choose to use it or notCons:-Android app - GARBAGE; it has a 1.8 rating and I can see why it is completely useless. No matter how many times I tried it would not pair with my S21 Ultra in wifi or hotspot mode - to be fair it worked on my old iPhone 11 that I kept as a backup, but this is still unacceptable.-On the note of the iOS app; it works great - live view (front and rear) has very little lag (apparently you can adjust between 2.4ghz & 5ghz mode but I honestly don't want to risk it), lots of different camera settings for some pretty in depth configuration-Unlike Blackvue; notifications cannot be individually disabled, you can have a 30 second intro of everything that happend since the car was shut off, so its all the details or none at all - no idea why this hasn't been resolved with a software update-The manual is in 10 languages but is completely useless otherwise. There is maybe 2 pages on how to pair it to your phone and nothing else, I ended up watching a YouTube video (thank you internet) to find out about all of the features and how they work-Customer support - while I did receive a response for the Android issue on my phone, the tutorial provided shows an old release of the app so most of the navigation methods aren't applicable, and it still doesn't work.-To do firmware updates it says the SD card needs to be formatted, guess what? No it doesn't! I had plugged in the micro-SD card (with the included usb reader) to my PC and found out there is an app on the SD card (for both Windows & Mac!) to view videos, change camera settings and do firmware updates. If I would've formatted it, I'd have lost those apps and guess what, no mention of that either anywhere this was just dumb luck. The camera is great (and the desktop app), everything else is absolute garbage. You wonder how a hardware can be some of the best on the market but the (mobile) software is probably the worst.P.S. the camera says it supports up to 128gb but I've read multiple reviews online stating 256gb cards work - so that'll be the next thing I try out.

Easy to install using OBD connector cable that was sold separately. After watching a few videos I bought a small plastic tool to help hide the wire behind the trim. The rear camera requires more work to do a stealth installation for the cable by removing large pieces of molding trim from the hatch rear door of my F Pace SUV. I was quoted $148.00 an hour to complete the install by a local shop so I decided to leave some of the cable exposed. Not quite the permanent install but will be easier to remove and put in a new car when I need it. The front camera is pointing slightly off center since I used a space just right of the rear view mirror. I should have angled it a little to the left when I pressed the mounting tab onto the glass. They included extra sticky tape pads so I could have removed it and do again but I did not want the hassle of having to clean residual glue off the glass to reposition, the field of vision is quite wide so was not a big deal to leave as is. The camera lens was pointing down and moving it up vertically was not clearly explained. It took quiet a bit of force to grab the lens portion to move it up vertically to the right position on the cross hairs. The rear camera was much easier to move vertically. Picture quality is as crisp and detailed as promised. I liked the Wi-Fi connectivity feature to help with install and be able to view recorded footage right there on my phone. It has a ton of other feature I have not tried out yet since it went into my wife's car. It is pricey at almost $500.00 for my set up but most other cameras compromise on some of the features I wanted to get at a lower price. I did my research and this camera promises the best quality and reliability especially for hot climate such as Florida where heat on the camera gets serious. You can save some money by going HD instead of 4K as one of their new cameras offer and maybe the one I get for my car.I hope this review helps.

That was just fine with me, thanks BBMC for a hassle-free delivery!I did a semi-permanent installation, running the cables around the trim so they were well concealed. I did modify the permanent wiring harness to install Anderson Power Pole connectors on it so that I could plug the dashcam into a power distribution panel I have in my car (2018 Nissan Leaf SL), rather than going to a fuse block or the 12V accessory battery. This panel is turned off when the vehicle is turned off, so I won’t be using the parking feature.I chose not to use parking because I do not intend to install a battery just for the dashcam at this point. Also if I were to do that, I’d need to install a hotspot powered 24x7 in order to upload any incident recorded videos to the cloud. A full time hotspot needs it’s own sim card and data plan for uploads, more purchase dollars and more dollars monthly, or as used depending on your plan.On the topic of uploads, if you select the max resolutions for front & rear cams, recording is at the rate of 300MB a minute. A single activation is a trivial upload, but depending on the speed of the 4G connection at the time, it could take a while to load to the cloud. If you’re in an area with 5G coverage and you have a phone or hotspot using it, 5G should be much faster. You must have your cell phone activated as a hotspot, linked to the U1000 whenever you’re driving, for the impact videos to be saved to the cloud automatically. That’s not a complaint, just something to be aware of.On the topic of awareness. Getting a 4K dashcam was my choice and I have no regrets. However, if I want to view any of the videos from the dashcam at full resolution, I need a PC or Mac and associated display/monitor that can handle 4K video display. That’s a resolution of 3840 x 2160 (UHD). Many of use have a less high-end display that might be HD 1920 x 1024 (I do) or less. It also take a rather hefty computer to supply the 4K video to the monitor. From the U1000 User Manual, page 37:5.1 System requirementsThe following are the system requirements for running the PC viewer.• For Windows- Processor: Intel Core i7 or higher- Memory: 8 GB or more- Operating system: Windows 10 or later (64-bit is recommended)- Other: DirectX 12 or higher / Microsoft Explorer version 7.0 or higher- GPU: Intel ® HD Graphics 630 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 or higherI do have a 24” HD monitor connected to a quad-core Intel Core i5, not i716 GB RamWindows Pro 10 64 bitIntel HD Graphics 630 GPUI reduced the front cam to QHD 60 fps and that does pretty well. The hitch is that you won’t see all the detail that is in the video, and depending the capabilities of your system, there will be dropped frames making for a playback experience with a few or maybe many “lurches” in the video…Quirks encountered in the installation in my Leaf. The windshield has a rather gentle slope, so it extends out a ways from the roof. I thus get the benefit of the front cam seeing more reflections off the car interior in bright sun than I anticipated, but I can live with it. The rear cam was placed lower than I had anticipated in order to get a better view out the ...

Thinkware U1000 initial impressions
6 October 2022

I was interested in installing two dash cams in my two vehicles and found Blackboxmycar online. After studying the various technologies, manufacturers and videos I decided on the Thinkware U1000 (2-channel from and rear cameras) with the Radar module (for park mode) along with a Powercell 8 backup battery while the car is parked for longer periods of time.My concern was video quality and reliably capturing events while on the road and while away from the car. The Thinkware unit is definitely able to produce very clear and smooth videos at 60 FPS. The unit itself is actually quite small and stealthy when mounted on the windshield so I really like that as well. The Thinkware unit is definitely able to produce very clear and smooth videos at 60 FPS. The unit itself is actually quite small and stealthy when mounted on the windshield so I really like that as well. One of the deficiencies of most dash cams is there is no video event coverage for the two sides of your car. I recently learned that Thinkware does offer a multiplexor unit that allows for adding up to 5-channels (front, back, inside and the two sides). While using the multiplexor the video screen is split up into multi-views and saved in one file. I really like that they offer this but unfortunately Thinkware does not currently offer this on their highest end dash cam. I hope Thinkware realizes that this would be a great add on to the Thinkware U1000 for those that want full vehicle coverage. I have given this dashcam a rating of 4 stars due to this lack of support. The optional extended wiring harness to accommodate the long power runs back to the battery in my car was a perfect length. My biggest worry was dressing the data and power cables from the windshield to the back of the car. The numerous videos found on their site demonstrating how to dress the cables gave me the confidence to do it myself. It was actually very easy and not scary to do so I would encourage anyone that is reasonably handy to go for it but to first watch some of the installation videos. I would also buy the inexpensive trim tool they sell to make dressing the cables much easier without damaging interior liners.I did have a bad backup battery upon arrival and the company was very good in getting another one sent right out to me. They provided all the necessary paperwork and shipping label. As a general approach dashcams are really designed to capture events and not to regularly review hundreds of generated files. This is a surveillance recorder and as such is meant to automatically provide proof of an event when required. There is also a manual button on the Thinkware U1000 allowing to manually record an event All of these event files are separated out and placed into a Manual Folder of the dash cam app making it easy to quickly retrieve and view. There are other event folders easily accessible which include both parking and motion events. As a final note, I have connected this dash cam to a mobile phone hotspot to the cloud. It was not quite as intuitive as it could be but I did get it connected. Unless you have built in wifi in your car with a strong internet connection I am not sure this is the best approach to capturing and storing your files over the time proven SD Card. Though it sounds like a good security feature should someone break into the car and steals the dash cam I question its overall reliability.

Whether the kit has circuit safety hazards

The camera installation manager of best buy geek squad said that the rear camera will cause abnormal voltage in the car and cause the car components to dissolve, so you can’t buy this product kit employee number 161432 After I bought the kit of this brand, I bought an installation service from bestbuy. After he helped me install the parking video hardware of the front camera, I connected the rear camera of the kit to the USB port of the front camera by myself, and then it took 4 months. The keyless start part of my car burned out and the maintenance cost was as high as 1300$. Then the camera installation manager told me that it was caused by the fact that I linked the matching rear camera. It is directly related to the camera manufacturer. ZERO regrets buying from BlackBoxMyCar and the ThinkWare + Cellink NEO battery brands
28 June 2022

When I first purchased from BlackBoxMyCar as well as from Amazon (BlackBoxMyCar was the selling merchant) in 2018 about 4+ years ago, there were several major purchases consisting of 2 Thinkware F800PRO front/rear dashcams, 3 Cellink NEO batteries for hardwiring to my Audi S6 and Audi Q7 vehicles. I am not super comfortable hardwiring my vehicles but with Youtube videos from BlackBoxMyCar and other content creators, I went ahead to purchase accessories like specific hardwiring kits to work between the ThinkWare dashcams and the Cellink NEO batteries. No issues encountered and the 2 F800PRO + 3 Cellink NEOs worked perfectly for the last 4+ years. In the last 3 weeks (June 2022), I decided to upgrade the 2 ThinkWare F800PRO front/rear dashcams with 2 ThinkWare U1000 ... MoreWhen I first purchased from BlackBoxMyCar as well as from Amazon (BlackBoxMyCar was the selling merchant) in 2018 about 4+ years ago, there were several major purchases consisting of 2 Thinkware F800PRO front/rear dashcams, 3 Cellink NEO batteries for hardwiring to my Audi S6 and Audi Q7 vehicles. No issues encountered and the 2 F800PRO + 3 Cellink NEOs worked perfectly for the last 4+ years. In the last 3 weeks (June 2022), I decided to upgrade the 2 ThinkWare F800PRO front/rear dashcams with 2 ThinkWare U1000 (4K) front/rear (2K) dashcams + a radar accessory for the U1000, as well as a new ThinkWare Q800PRO bundle as my second front and rear (interior) cam to upgrade an older F800 that I had installed as my second dashcam; more to allow me to record the interior facing the driver side window. The upgrades went flawlessly. I have to give credit to the BlackBoxMyCar support team. I had the fortunate occasion to do an online chat with Grayson on 3 separate times and all of them exceeded my expectations. I always have high expectations for any customer / technical service representative and Grayson (and his team) easily met that goal. He was knowledgeable and professional during our chat interactions.I am also pleased with the ThinkWare and Cellink NEO brands as they have proven to be reliable over the last 4+ years since making those huge purchases with BlackBoxMyCar. In reality I have been using ThinkWare since 2016 with zero issues. Now the U1000 parking mode through the Cellink NEO battery life is extended and with the radar accessory, the dashcam parking mode can be configured to run even longer. Together with ThinkWare Cloud, my vehicles are now protected from any unforeseen situations. Thanks!!
