Thrustmaster F/A-18C Hornet HOTAS Add-On Grip

$275.00

(60 reviews)

Replica of the control stick from the legendary McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet in original size. The control stick is compatible with all Thrustmaster Hotas Cougar and Hotas Warthog joystick bases (sold separately). It has been specifically designed as a versatile flight companion and as a tribute to the famous multirole fighter jet of the U.S. Navy, ensuring a unique flying experience—from the runway of an aircraft carrier to soaring heights. With the settings of a fighter jet, targets in the air can be quickly and accurately engaged with maximum agility. As a bomber, the pilot can also monitor and neutralize ground targets using the control stick. The versatility of the F/A-18C Hornet Hotas Add-On Grip allows for a wide range of actions and maneuvers. In addition to the 8-way Point of View switch and the realistic 2-stage trigger, the control stick features an impressive array of functions, including two 4-way switches with push-button functionality, a 2-way push-button, and four additional push-buttons (including two pinky push-buttons). The realistic pressure resistance of all buttons on the control stick is the result of extremely precise development work and closely resembles the actual F/A-18C Hornet control stick—from component selection to manufacturing quality. Thanks to its natural integration into the combat flight simulator DCS (via the F/A-18C module), this control stick opens up unprecedented possibilities for developing flying skills at any level.

The Thrustmaster F/A-18 Hornet Grip is by far one of the most valuable parts for a flight sim nerd or enthusiast. However there are some things to consider:-It has a much better build quality than competitor Hornet sticks (Such as Winwing).-It is also just a Grip, so unless you own the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, The Warthog Base, or a third party HOTAS Base, this will be useless to you.-Do not be deceived by the price; you must also purchase a HOTAS base for the stick (that is compatible with TM products) and you must own or must purchase a throttle component. All things to take into consideration before the purchase, make sure to watch plenty of reviews of the product. Some I would suggest to watch are by Growling Sidewinder, Ralfidude, and Spudknocker, ... MoreThe Thrustmaster F/A-18 Hornet Grip is by far one of the most valuable parts for a flight sim nerd or enthusiast. This stick is probably about the closest any of us will ever get to holding the controls of an F-18. Keep in mind, you’ll need to purchase the base for this seperate. The base and stick are expensive, but they’ll last you for years. I fly it with DCS and MSFS.

Pros: It's iighter than the warthog, being half plastic and thus eliminates a clunking problem previously caused by the heavy combination of a metal extension tube and metal stick on a plastic gimbalCons: The thumb hat switch sticks in the up/forward position as most other buyers have stated.

Excellent Product
7 August 2021

This, like Thrustmasters other offerings from the T-1600M and up, is an incredibly well made, polished and easy to use product. The person who rated it 1* is very likely expecting a ready to use system without so much as reading the description and realizing what this product ACTUALLY is.Firstly, it is a GRIP, and NOT a flight stick. The difference is that a flight stick, in general, has all the components required for it to work correctly. This is not that. It is a grip modelled in exquisite detail after that of the F/A18c multirole fighter flight stick and it is nearly identical in almost every way.As someone who regularly flies the F/A18c in DCS, I can tell you that this is almost exactly the same size and layout that you would find in a REAL F/A18c ... MoreThis, like Thrustmasters other offerings from the T-1600M and up, is an incredibly well made, polished and easy to use product. The wonderful thing is that you have choices. You can use the base from Thrustmaster's HOTAS Warthog with this grip. You can buy the base separately if you already have a throttle - or, you can buy the entire HOTAS system, and simply replace the A10 Thunderbolt II Warthog grip from that system with this, and it will feel just like an F/A18c Hornet. The other option is that you can use either the Mongoos or WarBRD bases from Virpil Controls (VPC). Virpil is a European company specializing in realistic, highly detailed and finely crafted flight controls, and their bases work with this AND Thrustmaster's other grips such as the Warthog & F16 Viper grips.Either choice is excellent and you will very much enjoy it, as it provides a wonderful sense of immersion for your favorite aircraft.I use my VPC controls for DCS, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Arma III and several other games. I have also used Thrustmaster's T-16000M and I can tell you that they have some great quality work in their flight simulation equipment. You will not be disappointed with this purchase, so long as you understand that you WILL need a base for this to work correctly.

26 May 2020

Pros: Perfect add-on to a Thrustmaster grip, paricuarly as it -seems to me anyway- there are more F/A-18C in the skies of DCS than there are A10Cs.Cons: Pricey!! Switching between both A10C and F/A-18C grips there is no indication or pop ups of the switch between the two in Windows and I wasn't sure if Windows did indeed pick up on the changed grip (it does but silently).

Okay stick if you want to burn money
7 December 2020

Coming from the A10C stick, this was somewhat of a strange stick to use. You've probably heard about the complaint that the paddle is to short to reach. Well, not only is it too short to reach, it also is not working the moment I received it. The grip is just kinda too big and it's just not as ergonomic as the A10C stick. Get it if you really want to go for that authentic FA/18 or F15 feeling.

Solid flight stick
9 September 2019

This is a solid build and very good replica. I appreciate that Thrustmaster added additional buttons compared to the real thing. I fly a lot in VR and it helps tremendously that the buttons are matched to the real aircraft. I do have a few complaints: the buttons each have different tactile feel and one is mushy and hard to press compared to it's A-10 counterpart. Also, the stick is not as ergonomic as the A-10 stick and a few of the buttons are hard to reach. If this is modeled 1:1 on the actual F-18 stick then this is not a deficiency of the stick itself, but rather more likely a deficiency of how I hold it versus how a real pilot might hold it (it is angled in the actual cockpit). As much as I appreciate this being an exact replica, I can see where Thrustmaster likely should have implemented some tweaks for ergonomic improvements. (I am using this stick on the A-10 base, sitting on my desktop. I suspect if I lowered the stick to more closely resemble the actual placement in the cockpit, then it would address my ergo concerns).
