Just like the first Thule bars I owned many years ago, these SquareBar Evo bars accommodate the original load stops. After several iterations of aerodynamic Thule and non-Thule bars, I realize now prefer the square bar system for ladders, lumber, canoes, etc.The Evo system foot is an improvement over the original.Wind noise (on a 2023 Kia Telluride) is managed by keeping front bar as far rearward as practical, and using a spiral of bungee cord on both bars.

The bars work great. Given we have two sets of Hullivators, we had to order the longest bars to have sufficient clearance due to the width of the roof. Unfortunately the slot to mount the feet, I had to extend the grooves as my roof bars are about an inch and a half narrower than the bar's grooves. Fortunately I have the tools and ability to do that.

I bought this setup to haul a canoe on my F150. Easy install. Seems solid up on top. I did purchase the Portage canoe setup as well and it gets the job done with all the needed straps. I did provide my own pool noodles to pad the straps where they contact the front grill. The bars do provide a whistling sounds while driving. It’s something I wouldn’t tolerate if I was permanently leaving the setup attached but knowing I am taking it off between my trips, it’s something that’s acceptable. At the price point of this setup, I’m disappointed that locks weren’t thrown in for free. Come on Thule, set yourself apart from the rest by providing locks with a complete rack setup.

I'm the proud owner of an older 1990's Thule square bar roof rack sys. There are none better! However, the clamp adapter kits are not available for the 2013 Honda Civic models. So, my lady bought a square bar roof rack sys. from another company, universal fit. Couldn't get in to fit properly. It would pull itself off the roof as I tightened the clamps even though I strictly followed veh. model instructions. I also spent many many hours trying to adapt it, but to no avail. So we returned it. I then bought the new Thule square bar sys. for our 2013 Honda Civics and the fit is perfect and extremely strong. My complaint is that the clamp covers barely clip on, very easily pulled off. Also, the locks are not provided, so I recycled them from my old clamps. My complaint is that the clamp covers barely clip on, very easily pulled off. Also, the locks are not provided, so I recycled them from my old clamps. Perfect fit but they only lock one corner of the cover. Anyone could pull and break the rest of the cover off, and unscrew the clamp bolts and steal the rack. Why aren't they made of metal like the older generation? They were much more secure, and the lock was positioned directly over the clamp bolt! The rack could not be stolen without drilling out the lock barrels which would discourage the common thief from stealing your roof rack! Otherwise, great rack as my older accessories still fit as well as accessories from other companies.
I have been using Thule square bar racks and accessories on every one of my vehicles since my 1983 GTI (38 years). I use 400, 450, or gutter feet depending on the vehicle. I have bars of all lengths, lots of feet, bicycle mounts, ski racks, boat mounts, a roof box, a roof basket, load stops, ... But alas, after generations Thule has changed their approach to using aero bars or square bars held down by a slot running across the bottom. If I was to buy a new vehicle without roof rails my bars won't work, I would have to buy an entire Thule SquareBar Evo in order to use all my accessories or spend even more on aero bars and jury rig connectors. But my greatest fear is Thule will stop selling square bar solutions altogether. Had the square bars installed on my Land Rover Discovery Sport. I really like the way they look and fit on its raised side rails. However, the drive home from the shop was incredibly loud and a major dissapointment. Very loud whistling over 35-40mph and bad wind buffetting noises. I thought I would have to keep them off unless needing to carry something up top. BUT.... I found 2 easy fixes.1- I put black duct tape over the slots on the bottom of the rails. The rails still whistled but only over 45-50 mph and not nearly as loudly. The black tape is not noticable unless you look for it. 2- I spiral wrapped 1/8in paracord around the crossbars. The wraps are spaced about 2 inches apart. Zero whistling even at 75mph. Very minor wind buffetting noise, hardly noticable ... MoreHad the square bars installed on my Land Rover Discovery Sport. Long time Thule rack system user. Went from the Evo Wingbar to the Squarebar on my new vehicle and it was a huge mistake. I didn't open the box until I needed them to travel and setting up one of the bars was bowed in the middle. The pads didn't fit properly even with the velcro as tight as possible. I love Thule products but am super disappointed in these bars. I drove across country last week and bars were so loud it was hard to have a conversation over the noise. I never had that problem with the Wingbars. I even had to take my surfboard bags off to put in the car and take the rack off to put my boards in the vehicle it was so loud and intrusive driving. That obstructed my rear vision on the highway so bad that I had no choice but to put the racks back on . I'm ... MoreLong time Thule rack system user. I'm hoping Thule will exchange these out for the Evo Wingbars that I have always used and I can pay the additional cost. Great for around town but just don't go on the highway.
I purchased these Squarebar Evo bars along with the Evo Clamp Kit and Hull-a-Port to transport my kayak and after several hundred kilometers of travel I can confidently say this is a product of the highest quality. The bars are sturdy and coated for protection against scratches. They do generate wind noise at speed which some find very irritating. It doesn't bother me enough to spend another $200 on the available windscreen which is supposed to cut down on the noise, but that option is there if you want it.I've had several people comment on how good it looks. I'm very happy with the purchase.
This is my third Thule rack system bought over the course of 25 years for three different vehicles. All have been square bar. My previous two vehicles (a Mercury Villager and a Toyota RAV4) both had factory racks. The new car, a Honda CRV does not. Compared to the systems that attached to the factory rack, the Evo system for a car without a rack is more fussy to mount and the torque wrench needed to tighten down the rack feet needs to be screwed really tight. I have some concern that either the socket in the feet or the wrench may strip out eventually. But once on the car, the racks were rock solid. And the new U shaped bar design is great - the top of the rack system is now completely smooth making it easier to slide my canoe into place without damaging the gunnels ... MoreThis is my third Thule rack system bought over the course of 25 years for three different vehicles. The assembly instructions were about as worthwhile as those from Ikea, which is to say not useful at all. I find the language free line drawings to be unintuitive. But the QR code linked You Tube videos were very useful and made assembly and mounting easy.
I have been putting together a rack for my truck camper shell, with zero help from Thule. There is no help or directions from the "Fit My Car" so I had to do it myself researching on the internet. I bought Rapid Podium feet and Crossbars at the length I wanted (150). Package arrived and I realized I needed a FitKit to attach feet to the factory installed Thule tracks which was mentioned nowhere on the Thule site. Also, the crossbars have a minimum width that the feet can be adjusted to and there is no mention of this anywhere on the bar description. My tracks were too narrow for the feet to be adjusted to fit them. So I then ordered the FitKit and called Thule to explain the situation with the bars and swapped them for shorter ones. My tracks were too narrow for the feet to be adjusted to fit them. So I then ordered the FitKit and called Thule to explain the situation with the bars and swapped them for shorter ones. These new bars arrived and still could not accommodate the width of my tracks. The minimum width the feet could slide into was about 39" and my tracks sit at 37". At this point I said "F-this" and cut the bars with a metal cutting wheel so the feet could slide in to where I needed them too. Finally, I got everything put together and fitting fine, and then went put the covers on over the podium feet. Turns out they don't fit tightly, and they wiggle and flap in the wind. So then I had to put some double side tape inside to keep them tight. I am someone who is competent with these types of things and don't usually have these problems. I will absolutely never buy another thing from Thule.
