This lens is built to the highest standards, very impressive. Optical performance is very good on a 24 Mpix camera. It is critically sharp in the plane of focus wide open, but the depth-of-field is quite shallow - as expected. The worst fault of this lens is significant vignetting, which is expected for a wide angle lens this fast. This is not automatically corrected in jpegs or Lightroom because there is no electronic information available from the lens directly, so the camera has no knowledge of the lens characteristics or set aperture value. If you're looking for that capability, then at 28mm the Canon product is the only (current) alternative.
