My family loves to play the original Ticket to Ride game but my youngest kids felt left out because it was a bit too advanced for them. When I saw this game I had to try it out and less than a month later I have well gotten my money spent on it! My 5-year old wakes up asking me to play it with her. After playing a few games with my help she wanted to play on her own without help. My 10-year old can play the original version but prefers this one now too. If you're unfamiliar with the differences, this junior version focuses on completing tickets (6) rather than points to earn the "golden ticket" and win the game. Total game time is about 15 minutes. It's a treat to have my kids request to play this game rather than sitting brainless looking at an electronic device. My favorite purchase in a long time!

And even if you have no idea how the adult game is played, I'm sure this edition would still be fun. My five-year-old caught on to the game very quickly and after playing it twice she knew all the rules and can beat me fair and square without any assistance. The game is a nice combination of luck and strategy - I personally prefer more strategy-based games, but that means that children can only rarely beat adults in a game. This has enough luck that a child has a good chance of winning if they play well. My three-year-old desperately wants to be able to play but can't, even with help. Super fun children’s strategy game that reinforces geography, special reasoning and multi-step planning. We loved the adult version and thought we’d give this a try. It was a little complicated for our 4-year old, but our 7-year old loved it! I do like that the cities also have an image for the younger kiddos that can’t read yet.

My family loves this jr. Version of the Ticket to Ride game. My youngest is 7 and she's getting the hang of it. It's not too long which my family prefers games under an hour. Its instructions are easy to follow and up to four players can play.
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 7 yr old grandson. He, his brothers ages 8 and 10, parents and I all loved playing Ticket to Ride Jr and did so several times over the holiday period. It was a lot of fun and the grandkids learned a bit of US geography, e.g. cities, coasts, what cities are known for, etc. I plan to purchase the regular version of Ticket to Ride for them soon since they enjoyed Jr so much. Having played Jr they'll be in a good position to move to the next, more complicated version.
We are big fans of TTR and have a few different versions. Our almost 6yo can play these without a lot of help. We bought this so our two kids could play together and to teach our younger child to play on his own. He picked it up easily given he already knew the basic idea of how to play. Playing without collecting points for routes is surprisingly fun. It's a straightforward and fun game, great to introduce younger player to the concept. We've enjoyed playing as a family and the two kids (5 and 10) can play on their own too.
We picked this game up to play with my nieces. This would be a first modern board game to try.It was a big hit for the 9 year old, the 6 year old wasn't interested in trying yet.We played a game and she's asked to play it every night since then.We're going to have to invest in card holders though. She can't hold the cards easily as game hand size grows.
My daughter just turned seven but has been sort of "stuck" at games like Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders where there's really no thought or skill involved. We tried checkers, and while she enjoys it, it seems like it might be a little too "abstract" for her since she has some trouble thinking into the next moves ahead. Plus... checkers gets a little boring for the adults after a bit. We picked up Ticket to Ride First Journey as a way to both get her into more complex games but also keep the adults a little more interested. So far it seems to be working. Having explicit goals (connect trains between points A and B) is helping focus her attention. We got this game as a gift and we LOVED it. It's so much fun. It helps learning a bit of geography and strategy, while still being simple enough for kids. Our 7 year old is able to play it by herself. Our 4.5 year old needs some help, but is still able to play with us and have fun. The game can take a while to play, so either make sure you have about an hour, or just shorten how many tickets you need to complete to win. We loved it so much, we bought one to give as a gift ourselves!
Three grandchildren - 9, 11 and 13 all loved it. It was simple enough for the 9 year old and yet challenging enough for the 13 year old. It was quicker than playing the adult version which meant we could play two or three games in a given time. Excellent game.
