Awesome! Takes a while to grind espresso, but that's expected since this grinder isn't the best for that. Arrived in impeccable condition. As functional as it is beautiful.
With one discrepancy in the specifications this is an excellent manual coffee grinder. A major upgrade from my wooden model that I've had for decades.The discrepancy? The capacity of this coffee grinder is 20g, NOT 25g as claimed in the sales material. As my coffee recipe is 450g water to 25g coffee I have to grind coffee twice to get the 25g total needed. This is only an inconvenience as this grinder handles 20g in about 30-40sec but it would be nice to see the ad with more honesty.
This grinder is built pretty well, grinds fairly quickly, but doesn't do a great job at coarser settings. I've found that this grinder at french press settings (24-26) actually grinds pretty inconsistently which leads to a fairly bland cup of coffee (grind size calibrated off my electric burr grinder). What's the point of traveling with a grinder and specialty beans if it doesn't make excellent coffee? The solution I have found is that you must grind your beans twice if you wish to brew in a french press. Grinding twice evens out the grind and actually makes the french press coffee really nice (even then there are more fines in the grind than I'd prefer). At drip, pour over, and aero press settings, this grinder grinds much more evenly and thus produces pleasing ... At best this hand grinder is only 95% as good as my Capresso Infinity at french press settings (double ground) and *maybe* equal to my $90 electric burr grinder at drip, pour over, and aero press settings. Had I known the quality of the coffee this grinder produced I'd have spent more on something better. I'm not unhappy with it, it's just not amazing. It's fine for the 8 days per year that I'll use it. In my opinion, if you're taking a grinder on vacation with you, it better produce amazing coffee. I'd probably skip this one and find a better one if it's in the budget.
I have been using a $20 blade grinder for years...ignorant of grinding. I have always heard burrs are better, but could never justify the cost of an electric one. I decided to try this budget manual burr grinder...and I am blown away at the difference it makes. I made 3 different pour overs with the only variable being grind settings. They were so different.Now I am loving my morning process and my cup of coffee is SO much better. Now I am looking at the next step up from this one...maybe the TimeMore slim.As for the build quality, I love the weight of the grinder and the machining is beautiful.
Excellent grinder! I have a Baratza Virtuoso, and I wanted a travel grinder. I honestly can't tell the difference in the brews between the two grinders.The manual grinding has gotten easier over time as well. Either I'm getting stronger or the burrs are finally getting seasoned.
I received this grinder and I am truly amazed at quality of it. I've been using a couple of Hario Skerton for years and was pretty satisfied with them. I didn't know a manual burr grinder could grind coffee so precise until I used this one. I extremely satisfied and would highly recommend it.
