Can’t wait to take it to my sisters on Easter so the kids can use it in her backyard.My kids do enjoy the controls for turning, lifting, and scooping. It was easy for my autistic daughter to figure out.

My grandson will be three in a week. He loves all things construcion and plays in this yard with Tonka toys. This one will be a huge hit. Well made. Bright and colorful. Actually allows him to dig up the dirt. Great imaginative play.

It’s not all metal, the arm for the excavator is plastic, but it is a lot of metal. It seems really sturdy, and my kids haven’t broken it yet! My son loves this excavator. He immediately opened it and went straight outside to play. The handles to run the bucket are perfect size for his hands, he is six. The excavator is nicely constructed and made of solid steel so it will be able to withstand playtime and won’t be ruined if he forgets it outside.
awful redention of the old classic. cheap plastic in most places now. re-engineered working parts, like the boom and scoop, now plastic and unworkable, such a poor design. metal on the cab only. sad. Tonka has capitulated.
My son loves this toy!! We live on an acreage so there is no shortage of dirt and he's determined to dig it all with this excavator! The setup was simple and he was ready to play in minutes. This excavator has survived multiple drops so far without any damage so it's certainly durable. I definitely recommend for small children!
I gave the Tonka Steel Excavator to my daughter who loves all things cars and trucks. She found it exciting to work the moving arm and digger. She played in sand with the excavator digging and making piles for quite awhile. This toy is also fun to try and scoop up small toys and move them around. Toy is well made and holds up well. Oh, sure, there's some metal in the item. But it is predominantly made out of plastic. I remember as a kid having Tonka construction vehicles that were 90-100% steel construction. While I'd be understanding of the modern iteration being not quite so well constructed (nothing is these days), I'd say this set is mostly plastic. The only metal parts seem to be the scoop, the arm rivets, the black frame of the cab, and the yellow topmost portion of the chassis. The digger arm, the handle, the black part of the chassis, and the yellow undercarriage are all plastic. Really disappointing.Not to mention, the shipping and delivery companies used by Toys R Us were... not great. My son loves anything Tonka. Well he really loved the Tonka Steel Classics Excavator. It will lift, rotate, and dig. Ben found a dirt pile and the excavating began. He played with it for hours and has continued to play with it every single minute he can. It’s great quality.
