So, I was strolling around The Fresh Market.. having mommy time ans buying a secret stash of fancy snacks and it wasn't long before I stiffed my way to the chocolate section. I will admit, I'm a sucker for packaging so the uniqueness caught my eye. I purched one of each bc this is mommys stash so... 💅 lol Now I should mention I'm very picky wirh my chocolate. My favorite has always been the OG Hershey bar. I always go back to it. The price tag on these had me a tab annoyed at first but it's actually huge, it tastes divine and has a beautiful mission so it's worth every penny. Love the funky shapes you break them into. I have yet to have one that I didn't absolutely obsess over. I hated chocolate mixed with nuts or crispies UNTIL NOW! I'm obsessed. I love caramel and I love chocolate. I am a wee bit of a snob on both - I prefer it to be good to great. I looked at in-store options and saw Tony’s Sea Salt Caramel and tried it. SO YUMMY! There isn’t gooey caramel they are these caramel pieces that perfectly complement the salty chocolate. I even got my MIL hooked on them. I haven’t tried the other flavors of Tony’s because well, this one is perfect. I even like the weird shapes the bar is divided in. You can always get the perfect portion you crave. The only downside is probably the cost but the social aspect of no slave labor makes it worth it. I didn’t even know that was something I had to worry about with chocolate.

Not sure why my review from November was taken out but, having tasted this again since, I completely agree with the previous reviewer and stand by my first impressions - this is not good chocolate. In fact, in reminds me of some of the worst American chocolates I?ve been unfortunate to try (Hersheys Kisses anyone?). It?s like biting into very sweet, heavy wax. Maybe because I?m French, my threshold for sweetness isn?t very high but I?m shocked at seeing how many people consider this to be good chocolate. Sure its ethos is great - and I will always look for more sustainable alternatives - but there is definitely better fair traded chocolate out there at this price point. If you think Cadburys is good then you?ll probably love this. Nice dark chocolate
27 June 2021

In the picture the chocolate looks almost milk chocolate in colour. I am Vegan and a fan of chunky chocolate rather than thin chocolate. I try to get "healthier" higher cocoa chocolate but hate bitter chocolate so this looked to tick all the boxes. In reality the bar is much darker than the image but isnt bitter which is a plus, but it doesn't taste creamy or sweet either. I would say it's a very good option for a dark chocolate, but it tastes probably darker than 70%. The wrapper was annoying, the foil is sealed so you have to tear it to get to the chocolate and as it is very thin it rips and crumples so you cant recover the left over chocolate again. The paper also has to be torn off then easily falls apart leaving the chocolate unwrapped. My paper got ever so ... MoreIn the picture the chocolate looks almost milk chocolate in colour. My paper got ever so slightly damp where I had wiped the counter and fell to bits. The uneven breaking is also annoying. All that said, it is a non bitter dark chocolate and tastes good enough to buy again.

Not really chocolate and way too sweet
10 March 2023

I really dislike this so called chocolate. Personally I wouldn't call it chocolate at all. The overwhelming taste is sugar. Too many other ingredients and in some of these bars sugar is the first ingredient and also more added further down the list. Just a not to being chocolate. For me the only redeeming feature is that the bars contain fairly traded cocoa -but not much in the bar. Just clever marketing and a poor product. There are way better chocolate bars such as Montezuma, which actually contain chocolate in decent quantities.Sugar, Dried Whole Milk, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, 9% Biscuit (Wheat Flour, Sugar, Butter (Milk), Glucose Syrup, Skimmed Milk Powder, Dextrose, Rising Agent (Ammonium Carbonates), Salt, Whole Milk Powder, Emulsifier (Lecithins)), 6% ... MoreI really dislike this so called chocolate. Sweet and greasy
9 January 2023

I've been meaning to try this chocolate to see what tall the fuss is about and I don't get it. It's very sweet and sticky/greasy, a bit like American candy chocolate or maybe Yorkie bar.The different sized chunks do my head in too. I admire the ethics but saying that it doesn't make sense for the chocolate to be divided equally is the wonkiest bit of self-flagellating virtue signalling that I've ever seen on a product. If this is the case, then I guess Tony's is taking the largest chunk of the profits as they have their name on the largest piece. So that's hardly ethical.

The Socially Responsible Wonka Bar
4 November 2021

It feels like opening a Wonka bar to look for a golden ticket. The entire chocolate experience is meant to bring awareness to a social cause. The chocolate bar's unique shaped pieces are creative. Without giving it away, there is an entire geographic/cultural/sociology lesson within the wrapper. You get to support a good cause all while enjoying yummy chocolate. As for the chocolate, it is addictive. Very fine quality. Well made. Curiously interesting. I do wish they would make it vegan, or at least source dairy from a humane/responsible source. Cows awesomely provide milk for these amazing chocolate bars.

This Chocolate is really nice, not waxy.
4 January 2023

I was dubious about buying this chocolate, only because of the hype around this range and I had a different bar previously, wasn’t that impressed. Plus it’s expensive! But it’s also fair-trade, and not much chocolate out there is now, especially not another well known brand. But I can’t agree with the last review, not waxy at all, whatever that means. Just lovely hazelnut chocolate, and the “crazy-paving” chunks break off easily. I’d eat this more if it was a bit cheaper.

Why do nuts need accompaniments for crunchiness?
30 April 2022

This could be great. The chocolate part is very nice, the nuts are nice, but the sugary crunchy bits spoil it.Unlike the solid chocolate bars or whole hazelnut bar you can easily break up the pieces and bite into them, but I’m sure chopped nuts alone could achieve that. Or blending with nut butter for a smooth and actually creamy bar that the Tony’s range lacks.I get quite frustrated with Tony’s. the chocolate is great but they have a fascination with adding weird stuff to otherwise promising flavours. I don’t want salt or non-nut crunchy things eg popping candy, pretzels, cookies, wafers, in my chocolate, but I do want to be able to bite into it without risking my teeth.

Yum!
22 March 2023

So yummy! My partner and I have been treating ourselves to sharing a chocolate bar each week and love this company’s ethos. Nice to have a chocolate bar that’s pregnancy safe too with out weird crap in it like the mainstream ones. I won’t name any names cough cadbu**** haha I would LOVE if they sold a bar size of their egg flavour raspberry pop rocks also if you sold the strawberry love affair flavour. Soooo goood. Just the right amount of crunch and salty sweet in this particular bar. Really nice with a banana.
