ToolPRO Tap and Die Set Metric 24 Piece
A stripped or threaded nut or bolt can be a cause of unbelievable frustration, regardless of whether it's on the car, at the job site or even something around the home. A Tap and Die Set like this set from ToolPRO can be the answer to these problems; complete with a durable metal case and moulded plastic tray for easy allocation, this kit comes with taps, dies and their respective holders to re-thread any stubborn nut or bolt. One might be apprehensive about using a tap & die set if they never have before, but they really are quite simple to use. A tap, as the name suggests, is a male threaded tool bit designed to cut a thread into the inside surface of a hole; a process call tapping, which creates a female thread. A die is used to cut male thread on to a cylindrical rod; for example, threading of a bolt. Depending on whether you wish to create a male or female thread, the appropriate holders for each of these are used to slowly cut this thread into the metal, and can be used to either clean a stripped thread, or even create a new thread. Tap & Dies 5mm x 0.80 5mm x 0.90 6mm x 0.75 6mm x 1.00 8mm x 1.00 8mm x 1.25 10mm x 1.25 10mm x 1.50 12mm x 1.50 12mm x 1.75 1/8-27NPT Also Includes 1 x Die Handle 1 x Tap Wrench

Great to see Imperial size tools still available. Quality of tool is good and it was great value as it didn't cost me a cent as I was credited $70.00 for an item I bought that went on special two weeks after the fact so I was credited the difference to my account!! Cheers!

All the common imperial sizes. Same quality as the metric set. Does what it needs to, cuts a nice threaded hole, cleans a thread if you really need it to.

Bought these when they were on special so the whole set didn't cost a whole lot more than a good quality tap.I wasn't expecting much and I wasn't at all surprised. For example, the tap wrench is very loose in all configurations, and the tap doesn't clamp firmly in the jaws, nor does it sit centred or perpendicular. The taps and dies are also nothing special. The taps especially seem to want to go in at an angle, i suspect either the casting or forging was a little asymmetrical or there are some burrs on the teeth. So far the toughest thing I've thrown at the set is M10 threads through a 12mm mild steel plate. The tap was twisting, maybe even 10 degrees without all that much force coming in from me, but it got it done.At that price I shouldn't be complaining. Good quality for the price. Restoring an old Honda lawn mower with muffler studs welding themselves into the aluminium head. Pain in the ****, but drilled them out and used this little kit to re-thread. Worked well. Also used it to re-thread various bolts that had gone to the dark side. Happy with the purchase.
It isn’t anything special, however it is in a reasonable price range if you are not too serious. It is one of those times where you get what you pay for. My biggest complaint I would have with it is the tap wrench. If you try to tap something small and back out to clean the thread you just cut, the tap slips on the tap. It is really only built for the largest tap. It isn’t terrible and comes in handy more times than you would think.
I needed to tap several holes and thought this kit was a good price. I followed instructions, was careful and all good. The only thing I wish the tap holder had a finer thread as it comes loose to easily.
Seems a decent little tap and die set, actually has the sizes I need when working on my car.I'm a mechanic by trade and in only a couple of weeks I have already used it several times successfully.
Purchased this 6.6.22M8 1.25 Tap and Die is not to spec. As a result the bolt holes underneath my car are now trashed. I most DEFINITELY do not recommend this product. Will be returning asap and purchasing a more reputable brand
Bought this set today, tried using it on my exhaust flange and immediately snapped in half, leaving itself stuck inside the threads. Was an absolute pain to remove. Taking into supercheap auto tomorrow to return it
I bought this a couple of weeks ago, on sale, and was actually impressed by the value for $$. This is not a top shelf tool, but I was NOT paying for top shelf, just something to adequately do the job. If I was still working in the trade, I would still buy this set as a back up, no problems. For every day use, may be not . As with all taps and dies, use them correctly, the tool cant be blamed for a persons impatient or misuse.
