I bought this mower a couple weeks ago and it runs and cuts well. The only issue I have found is that the bag door assembly does not fit the bag frame well. This causes grass to fly everywhere when you try to use the bagging system. I looked at the new exmark and they have corrected this issue with a well fitting bag door that molds around the frame and the opening of the bag. I am very disappointed because I thought the toro would be equal to or better than the exmark as far as its design. On the other hand I love everything else about the mower so far. I will just have to keep my ybravo for bagging.

22298 has been updated to a double bail handle - see pics

I went to my local dealer to order a 22298, and after a few weeks, it came in - around 04/15/18. I was expecting the one pictured on the Toro Site, but was extremely happy that something different showed up. The 22298 now comes with the two bail system and I think it works a lot easier than the single bail - based on complaints. Please also note that there the plate across the top that says "Commercial" is also not there.I am using this as a homeowner, but this will be the last mower I purchase. Starts easy, drives great, cuts like no body's business. Overall, it's built like a tank. Overkill for my use.If you are thinking of getting this one, ask the dealer which one you will end up. Great Recycler Machine

This mower is one of the best machines I've owned. It cuts through the tallest grass without any issue. I keep the blade sharp which is imperative. I use two blades (Bagger and Mulcher). Both do their job extremely well when installed. Perform the few first cuts in the spring with the Bagger blade and then leave the Mulcher blade on for the rest of the season until the fall.Machine is fairly heavy @ 125 Lbs however it does the job.Highly recommended.Thanks for the read.

Great heavy duty commercial mower!

I have been very happy with this for my business. Cuts great and moves right along and starts right up. Yes it is very heavy but as long as you aren't loading it in a pickup or the self propel goes out then you will be fine. Love the heavy duty wheels and height adjustment! Definitely would recommend for commercial or residential. Price isn't much more then a residential unit.

Nothing compares the best you can buy with old school quality!!

I have been the proud owner of this Machine for over 3 years. My previous machines included other toro models and snapper as am a semi pro landscaper. This mower is in a league of its own. I have the Kawasaki fj180v kai engine and really like it for its low end torque and ability to handle outrageously tall grass with ease and not bogging down. All the hardware is grade 8 and deck is heavy heavy wall cast aluminum. Second to none and would buy it again without hesitation. Once you have one you will ask yourself why you waited so long to get one!!!!

One of the best 21' self propelled mower!!!

Very strongly built . Robust : desk and wheels. Transmission pulls well up hills . Good mulcher and bagger . Replaceable steel plates to protect the chassis- excellent! Easy adjustment to drive belt ; no tools required! Easy change of bar blade in under 2 minutes, just undo 2 easy accessible nuts . Ground speed fast ; excellent! Powerful engine . Easy adjustment to drive belt : no tools required!Easy to work on to replace belts!No throttle cable to stretch or get damaged.

Suspicious Transmission

I do like the mower very well. I have been purchasing 21" Toro Mowers for nearly thirty years. I have a concern about the transmission with this model. After two years it went. I have never lost a transmission in all the years until now. I hope this was a one off but I see by other comments this is happening to others

This model should be named "Tank."

This mower is one very solid unit. It's tough, no matter what I put it through. It always starts, and usually on the first pull. It never bogs down or hesitates. I live on Vancouver Island, BC and quite often we have to cut wet grass. There are no clumps left behind, even cutting tall grass in the rain. The quality of cut is why I always buy Toro. I won't be buying another one for a very long time, because these things last forever. You cannot get a better lawnmower than this. I only have one suggestion: you should call it "Tank."

Toro 22298

The mower is solid, however I’m concerned because the dealer that I purchased it from ran the engine 4-5 minutes without adding oil, as I was finishing the purchase. I asked them if there was oil in it and they said yes. When I got the mower home I checked the oil and there was none in there. Called the dealer the next day and they didn’t seem too concerned. I asked for something in writing stating what happened and still have not received anything. I added oil and the engine runs, but I’m concerned that damage may have been done to the Kawasaki engine.

it's all good with one exception

This mower is built!I like the engine mounted throttle. One less cable to deal with.The combination blade/drive bailer is a little tricky to get used to, but no problem there.I provided the dealer install a Tiny-Tach, which they attached with 2 sided adhesive tape to the metal plate on the handle. Now I can keep track of the engine hours for service intervals. https://www.tinytach.comThe only down side is that I think Toro should have included the rear discharge chute attachment with the purchase price of the mower. I spend over $1000 to buy the mower and then I have to spend ANOTHER $50 for the rear discharge chute? WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!?! C'mon Toro! The mulching plug IS included, so why not include the rear discharge chute as well?
