The MG09 Series provides 18 TB of conventional magnetic recording (CMR) capacity Industry Standard 3.5-inch 26.1 mm height Form Factor Lower operational power profile, providing excellent power efficiency (W/TB) for better TCO Sustained transfer rate and power efficiency improvements vs. prior MG Series generations Toshiba Flux Control Microwave-assisted Magnetic Recording (FC-MAMR) Technology Toshiba MG08 Enterprise 7200 RPM 18TB Serial ATA 6.0Gbps Desktop Internal Hard Drive is a 18 terabyte internal hard drive that uses the Serial ATA interface and has a data transfer rate of 6 gigabits per second (Gbps). The higher the data transfer rate, the faster the drive can read and write data. It has a rotation speed of 7200 revolutions per minute, a high-performance speed for hard drives. Emulates the sector size of a 512 byte per sector drive. Write cache which protect the data integrity in case of power failure.

The drive itself is fine. I have had a couple of dozen MG series from various places and only one DOA so far. Some suppliers sell "grey market" drives, but the Scan supplied ones nominally have the full 5 year Toshiba warranty so that's good. What's bad is how old the drives were: the ones I received were manufactured 7 whole months ago, so they're missing 10% of the warranty period which seems a bit excessive. No other complaints though.
- I have no trouble recommending this drive. Assuming the price remains competitive I'll likely buy more of these. UPDATE: I now have 6 of these. All working perfectly.
Though it's only been a couple of weeks that I've transferred from my "disk farm" to a new and consolidated volume, I have hopes that this will last me several years for primary file storage (with double-back-ups of course!) of my working files.I'm in the process of consolidating over a dozen smaller drives from my last several years into newer and more robust drives in a single jbod case to cut down on boxes and cables and move forward. I'll keep the older drives as an extra back-up to what I've transferred so far as they are smaller and still work and there's no reason to either recycle, reformat or reuse as the newer drives are larger, more reliable and should burn a few fewer electrons during their lifetime.Only time will tell if this enterprise-class drive is ... MoreThough it's only been a couple of weeks that I've transferred from my "disk farm" to a new and consolidated volume, I have hopes that this will last me several years for primary file storage (with double-back-ups of course!) of my working files.I'm in the process of consolidating over a dozen smaller drives from my last several years into newer and more robust drives in a single jbod case to cut down on boxes and cables and move forward. Currently, the oldest drives on my old system dates to 2010 and are configured as a RAID-0 and a separate internal drive has work during this time as a Time Machine backup, all without fail. For the past several years, one of the better values I've found in my "hdd farm" have been the Tosiba drives and I used several 2.5-inch drives through the years for back-up during many overseas journeys. These smaller drives will probably become archive volumes in the future as they have been replaced by smaller and faster SSD drives and each has low use time. In this case, they will continue to serve rather than being tossed or recycled. If the past is any guide, this drive may outlast both my new MacStudio and perhaps even me! We'll see who poops out first! ;-)
Very pleased - this arrived very well packaged. I've bought a number of these over the last 6 months together with a few from other manufacturers of a similar size. TBH they have all been fine. These seem to run a little cooler than some of the others but I have no empiric data. All the drives are a little noisier than the desktop alternatives but not by much & these have 512mb cache plus 5 years guarantee. I keep my drives until they die, which either seems to be straight away or almost never. I have drives running daily that are over 10 years old albeit with low intensity usage.
I got 3 of these in my computer set up, and they are very nice. I have used Toshiba HDD for years and never had 1 fail on me yet. Knock on wood.
I've had 2 out of 4 fail within a year. Either I am very unlucky or they are not very reliable. This is my last attempt to keep the RAID eith a single manufacturer. At least they have a 5y warranty.
Only had these a few weeks so time will tell, but previous Tosh drives of this type I've had are still going strong & I chose after researching reliablitly/cost and they seem like a good bet - a lot cheaper than WD Reds for example. For my use case as media server & mirrored backup they seem to be doing really well so far. And of course as usual SCAN got them over super fast and use my fave delivery DPD ahhh yeah!
