TP-Link Deco M5 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System - 3 Pack
Average routers are designed to send Wi-Fi in all directions but don't always reach every room. Range extenders improve coverage but create multiple networks for you to navigate. Deco M5 uses several units working together to replace your router and create seamless Wi-Fi in every room. Deco includes three separate features in one device - seamless coverage, antivirus and parental controls. Not only do you get strong Wi-Fi in every room of your home, you also get the most secure whole-home Wi-Fi with HomeCare protecting every device. Deco uses a system of units to achieve seamless whole-home Wi-Fi coverage — eliminate weak signal areas once and for all! With advanced Deco Mesh Technology, units work together to form one unified whole-home network with the same network name. Devices automatically switch between Decos as you move through your home for the fastest possible speeds. A Deco M5 two-pack delivers Wi-Fi to an area of up to 3,800 square feet. And if that’s not enough, simply add more Decos to the network anytime to increase coverage. Deco M5 provides fast and stable connections with speeds of up to 1267 Mbps and works with major internet service provider (ISP) and modem. Deco can handle traffic from even the busiest of networks, providing lag-free connections for over 100 devices. TP-Link HomeCareTM provides a suite of personalized and secure features, including Parental Controls, built-in Antivirus and Quality of Service (QoS). Setup is easier than ever with the Deco app there to walk you through every step.

Pros: Really revolutionised our Virgin Media wifi. Easy to set up - had to phone Virgin to confirm the changes at the router, but very easy call to make - and really does 'paint' the house in wifi. The fact that it's compatible with other TP-Link equipment is a bonus. Will add more to the network in the future. Cons: The 'mesh' facility means that your equipment may sometimes link itself up to a deco further away from the nearest one. This only really becomes an issue if you move around on a call and go out of range to the deco you're currently connected to. Re-connection establishes quickly to the nearest unit. It's just a question of logic and why some devices don't latch on to the most sensibly-placed deco relative to it's current location. We have been using the TP-Link Deco M5 (version 3) for over a month now, for a family of active wifi users. Our house is L-shaped and about 200 sqm, so lots of wifi dead-zones. Our previous set up used the ISP router and PoE to get wifi around the house - this just worked, but we had drop-outs and slow wifi (10-20Mb on a 50Mb service). The TP-Link Deco M5 changed all this. The coverage is brilliant, even extending outside the house and into the back yard and workshop down the back (we are on a 700sqm house block). Speed tests consistently return 45Mb, from anywhere in the house, so we are very happy with performance. Additionally, as advertised, you can freely move about the house and still be connected - this is brilliant when on WhatsApp video calls, etc. The ... MoreWe have been using the TP-Link Deco M5 (version 3) for over a month now, for a family of active wifi users. You download an app to your mobile, follow the prompts and it does the rest. Set-up was truly a breeze. Managing the network is also very easy, using the app - it's "idiot proof". The app also has a number of nice features such as letting you know when new devices attach to your network, fixed-IP where required, and provides a monthly report on usage. You are also able to setup QoS for each device if required - we tried this, but ended up not using this feature. Overall, a great result for us, and money well spent.

I bought this product last week, Firstly my comments are dependent on my expectations. First of all as I have 1Gb speed, my expectation was moving this speed to the first floor using a Wi-Fi repeater according to its limit. I compared this product with other repeaters and started watching the price. I saw that it looks much better than the M4R model and the WiFi speed is faster(400Mb) at 2.4GHz. And it is stated that it gives around 800mb at 5GHz. So far so good, I set the first deco M5 successfully, the device boxed very well and the interface for setup was clear and easy. Also it has a nice design and you could mount it to the wall. Quickly I tested the setup for its raw speed, as this one has this future in the application. So I saw that it was around 1GB. Wifi speed was around 500Mbps which is good. But It is the same speed with the modem, which is something I expected, But for the first floor second deco didn't give the same speed, it was around max 100-150Mbps. That part was really disappointing for me. But the signal level was quite fine. So, if you are looking for a nice design, full coverage LOW SPEED wifi speed this could be for you. Also I tested with an older version of deco which is M4. The speed was much better and it is almost the same that I got from the main deco. Annoying part is, M5 looks like it is better signal value then M4, please check it: https://www.tp-link.com/nl/compare/?typeId=5700&productIds=40375%2C40542 but the performance is less than M4. This is misleading the people.

Pros: Easy to set up. Have had no issues with reliability. Cons: Unfortunately the speed drops considerably between the access points. Connected to the router node we get 300+mbps on 5g WiFi. At the satellite node this drops to below 100mbps. The issue must be the transfer of data between the 2 nodes. It's not really good enough for our needs (the satellite is in the office) and we are considering binning it and having the broadband cable rerouted to the office instead.

It has quickly become one of our favourite cheap mesh Wi-Fi units, rivalling even the mighty Google Wifi. TP-Link Deco M5 review: What you need to know The TP-Link Deco M5 is the firm’s first mesh networking system and, just like Google Wifi and BT’s Whole Home Wi-Fi, it aims to improve wireless coverage around your home by using multiple boxes to bounce the wireless signal from one to the other, spreading it into former black spots and reducing the load on your router. The Deco M5 kit consists of three of these “nodes”, one more than Google Wifi and the same number as included with BT’s kit, and it works in largely the same way – by hanging off one of the Ethernet ports on your existing router and extending an existing wireless network instead of replacing it. What's different about the TP-Link Deco M5 is that it adds to its mesh networking capabilities with comprehensive parental controls and bundled, network-level antivirus.
This system has exceeded my expectations. I recently switched ISPs and noticed immediately that the modem/router combo my new ISP provided wasn't great. I was getting close to the 100mbps I pay for while in the same room as my router, but upstairs on the opposite end of my 1400sq/ft home, I was getting less than half that and even experienced drops. I decided to purchase this 3-pack after a bit of research and I'm glad I did. I'm now getting consistent, reliable internet across my entire home. I'm getting more than what I pay for now; my download speeds are now 115-199mbps on wireless - anywhere in my home. It even fixed some connectivity issues I was having with my gaming PC (has a TP-link PCI-e wireless card in it, which seems to play nicer with this system). The app - while probably too simple for more advance users who run their own servers etc. - it's perfect for our family's use. We have approximately 24 devices on our network (laptop, desktop, tablets, phones, smart speakers, lights, thermostats, game consoles), many use 2.4ghz Wi-Fi and many use 5ghz. There were no issues connecting any of our devices. It's now crystal clear what each device is in the app, because I took the time to label each of them as I connected them. The optimization feature in the app works great as well. We have a lot of neighbours nearby, and one tap sets you up on the least congested Wi-Fi bands. Overall I think this is a great product for most families. If you need to do super advanced networking, it may not be for you. But if you're looking for no-BS, hassle-free, reliable Wi-Fi... look no further.
Ordered on Monday, collected on Tuesday, installed on Wednesday - now we have perfect WiFi throughout the house and covering the garden too! I love listening to podcasts as I potter in the house and garden so I am delighted that I no longer need to stop what I'm doing to switch back & forward between the main router and our old extender. The set-up was very quick and straightforward using the app. The units are attractive, though as said by others, they do need shelf space, and also a nearby power socket apiece (but attractive and unobtrusive enough to be able to trade a small space in my teenager's bedroom for one unit in exchange for the benefits she will get from the new system as the main streamer in the household.) Early days, but seems to be coping well with the demands of three of us and our gadgets, working from home, online college work, surfing & streaming. I haven't had time yet to try out most of the additional functions on the app. Fantastic speedy service from John Lewis and £30 off - I'm a very satisfied customer!
This works so much better than my old, previously, high end router. I had one of the ones with three external antennas, so I assumed that coverage of a single Deco M5 unit would be inferior (but overall better due to the mesh capability). I was very surprised to find that from the same location (in a closet), the Deco blew away my old router. It actually covered my house fairly well with a single unit. However, out on the front porch and down the steps, it still struggled. I then added one of the remote units to my living room, near the front window. Now my porch, the steps and the sidewalk below are flooded with wifi. I used to have a problem when getting into my car, where maps or music wouldn't load, as my phone was still trying to use my wifi. I used to have a problem when getting into my car, where maps or music wouldn't load, as my phone was still trying to use my wifi. I'd have to either switch it off or drive a block to get it to give up. Now it just works, so it took away that minor irritation. I had been planning to use wired backhaul for the remote, but I ended up placing it somewhere I didn't have ethernet. After testing and finding that I'm easily getting 50-60 mbps in some of our previous dead zones, I don't see any need to run a new cable. The system seems smart enough to keep everyone on the main router, and only a couple of periphery, low-bandwidth devices are using the remote unit. Lastly, I was very happy to find that these use only 4W per my kill-a-watt. Two of these are using slightly less power than my old Asus router.

Great for a home with teens who'll ear to ask your bandwidth of they can. Hopefully as the technology becomes more broadly used, prices will come down. This is still a substantial purchase for most of us. We decided it was a necessary buy in order to work throughout our home and living space especially during warmer months when we want to be in our backyard space. Really happy with this product!
Something that’s tricky to work out with these mesh systems is that you need a modem or modem-router to connect the first one to. That way, you’ll probably need 3-set to cover a home area (at least). They work nicely and are reasonably easy to set up, though you still have to give them a separate network name to the modem network and then rename it! To avoid confusion, you can hide your modem network name. They are small and ok-looking. They don’t have their own power button if you want to switch off parts of the network. That way, you’ll probably need 3-set to cover a home area (at least). They work nicely and are reasonably easy to set up, though you still have to give them a separate network name to the modem network and then rename it!
