My current home network setup consists of four TP Link Deco AX1800 units, and I couldn't be happier with the quality of the product. Using four of these units, I am able to control the 50 I.O.T devices including lights, electrical switches, and home security components. In addition to my I.O.T. devices, I have about 30 more devices on my network including computers, printers, multimedia devices, and voice controlled smart home assistants, including Google Home devices and numerous Alexa devices. Each and every device on my network is working flawlessly with this Deco Mesh network, and I consistently get 600 - 800 Mbps speeds, which is quite impressive considering this is a wireless network. I have a gigabit (1000 Mbps) internet connection, and getting real-world speeds of up to 800 Mbps is very impressive. My mobile devices seamlessly switch between the four access points with no loss of signal or connection. Four of these AX1800 units easily provide coverage across nearly 5,000 sq feet of living space. I am absolutely amazed by the signal quality and speed of the Deco units, which are performing better than some of the $1000 enterprise systems that I have used in the past. Mesh technology has advanced at a breakneck pace, making traditional, non-mesh WiFi routers a thing of the past. The initial setup of this system is so easy that anyone who can use a smartphone SHOULD be able to get this system up and running in a matter of minutes. The user interface is simple, but adequate for any home network. The only addition I made to my Deco mesh network was to add an enterprise-grade hardware firewall to ensure that the security of my network can not be compromised. The built in security features are very nice, but somewhat limited if you want ironclad network security. Having spent only $300 for four of these units, there is no better value on the market (that I'm familiar with). Aside from adding a hardware firewall to my Deco mesh network, the system is basically plug-and-play. Any half-way intelligent person should be able to easily set up this mesh network with minimal effort.I HIGHLY recommend this system to anyone who needs reliable seamless wireless coverage across their home or business. TP Link's Deco AX1800 has redefined value and quality!

Easy Fix for Weak Wi-Fi Spots in Home

I move around a lot which is relevant to this review because most homes I have lived in, (~ 15 homes), had a few areas where the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bandwidth had difficulty reaching. I wanted to see if TP-Link’s AX1800 mesh network would help with this challenge and if I am super lucky, completely resolve it. The setup I choose was a dual-station package with one station connected with an included data cable to the router and the other station placed in an area with weak signal. It is worth noting that my internet is fiber optic with up to 1 Gbps up and 1 Gbps down. Due to the speed, I do not have a modem and my router is one I purchased and not the one that the ISP typically leases to you. Setup for the Deco mesh network system very simple. There is an app you download that goes through every step. I tend to be on the slow side when it comes to installing new equipment, but the total time for install was around 15 - 20 minutes. My speed test prior to setup of the mesh network in the weak signal area was around 24 Mbps down which is very frustrating when you are paying for up to 1 Gbps. You’ll see in one photo after the installation of the mesh network, the speed is now mind blowing. It is also worth noting that my home has a smart panel with all the internet equipment. This smart panel is made of metal and really impacts the internet speed. However, after the mesh network was setup and running, I didn’t notice any drop in speed due to the metal smart panel box. If you have areas in your home that have weak Wi-Fi signal, especially on 2.4 GHz bandwidth, you will be very happy once you have the TP-Link AX1800 mesh network system up and running.

Most importantly, unless you have made arrangements with your ISP to allow the Deco to act as a DNS server you must set it up in 'Access Point' mode or it will fight with the ISP's router causing all sorts of problems. This can be done easily during setup but the instructions do not make clear that 'Access Point' is needed in almost all cases. A significant limitation is that both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi bands MUST have the same name (SSID), other brands will allow different names for each band. Whilst this is unlikely to be an issue in most set ups, for us it stopped our SONOS system working. I have since discovered that although SONOS creates its own mesh network it also relies on WiFi to connect controllers and portable speakers (Roam, Move). If the SONOS mesh is connected to one Wifi band and your phone decides to connect to the other, you will not be able to control the SONOS system and the portable speakers will disappear from the controllers. For the Deco the only way to resolve this is to turn off one of the bands losing that facility and thus reducing the value of the Deco system.

Great products and good features

The DECO X20 2-PACK was great, I have connected one at each end of my house, and the days of weak WiFi at the rear of the house are gone, I don't notice any drops out with the meshed setup and it works great. The interface is a bit restrictive as I can only see what is connected, not which AP they are currently on, nor can I see the APs individually. Better documentation and instructions would make the product simpler to use. The KP115 smart plug and 4619544 power strip work really well, I have long been concerned how much power my printer uses in standby, so the smart plug allows me to monitor this, as well as remotely switch it off when not in use. The power strip also allows me to remotely turn off and on devices connected to it, without having to access the powerboard directly, this is great for appliances that may need an occasional power cycle and are plugged in, in hard to reach places, such as at the back of a TV cabinet or under a desk. The only downside is it doesn't have inbuilt power monitoring like the smart plug does. The KL60, KL130 smart bulbs work really well, personally I am not a fan of filament bulbs, but the fact you can dim them and turn them off and on remotely, I am happy to keep them in places they would suit, as the bulbs are good quality and work without issue. The coloured bulbs work really well too, the kids have a great time asking Alexa to change the colours, and the brightness of them is excellent, being able to set them at different levels depending on what you need is great, and the profile settings in the app are great for autosetting mood lighting across multiple globes and rooms. The only thing I wish they would improve is the user interface, as it is somewhat limiting in some situations and us more geared for single room lights rather than mutli room lights. The bulbs changing one at a time is noticeable when having 4 in the one room, I would of expected some sort of group setup with a braodcast/mutlicast option. Overall good!

Great system - easy to setup!
16 November 2021

I’m using the Deco AX1800 to replace a 7-year old, single unit, WiFi router. The user experience of opening the package was excellent as it was simple, yet provided everything I needed to know. The instructions on the inside of the box were only 4 steps! I downloaded the app by searching for “Deco App” in the app store. Next I removed the 3 units and the accessories from the packaging - each accessory was individually packaged as well. The system was very easy to set up and I didn’t need to open the installation manual that was included with the network cable. Kudos to tp-link for including wires that are flat, as it makes tucking them away much easier after installation. I followed the instructions on the app and setup was easy. There's no guessing on what's happening during the setup as the app keeps you updated and the Yellow/Blue/Green/Red light system makes process identification simple. Once the first unit is connected, simply plug each additional unit into power and they locate and identify each other. Not sure how it could be any easier. My previous router was maxing out around 115Mbps, the AX1800 is providing wireless download speeds of 237 Mbps. Remarkably fast! The navigation of the app and its features is very intuitive and the parental controls are fantastic. After about 15 minutes, I had all 3 units working and the WiFi in my home has never been better. I highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to upgrade their wireless network.

Mesh WIFI AX Router at a great price! WITH some caveats...

I had a 5-year old Securifi mesh network, but it had become less dependable of late, and with the company all but defunct, I decided to update to a more well known brand that's apt to still be around in 6 years. So, I did my research, and bang-for-the-buck, the TP-Link W3600 came out on top in this price range for the features, especially adding WiFi 6. Keep in mind, WiFi 6 isn't going to make your internet any faster than what you're paying for with your ISP - if your paying for 200mbps, you're still going to only get 200mbps. Also, a network card on an electronic device, be it a laptop, computer, gaming console, or cell phone. has to be WIFI 6 capable, otherwise it's going to be limited to its compatibilities. But, if you have WIFI 6 compatible network cards and/or if you pay for gig speeds with your ISP and your current WIFI router can't handle them, then this is a great and affordable place to start. Coming from the Securifi routers, I guess I got spoiled, because they were very granular. I could turn things on and off, make my 2.4 and 5GHz networks run independently, create MAC filtering, assign individual items a static IP on one or the other of the bands, modify my DHCP table to specific ranges for specific devices, setup port tunneling, setup DMZ's, parental controls and tine limits, and on and on. But even though you can't do ALL of that with the TP-Link W3600, you can still do a lot through the Android or IOS app. The painful one for me is not being able to segregate my bandwidths, which can make it quite painful if you have smart devices - all of which run over 2.4GHz - because the band steering algorithm can be fairly slow. For instance, I have a Wyze outdoor camera, but it took the router algorithm and the camera literal hours to agree that it wants to use the 2.4GHz network, even with the 5GHz network disabled completely (though I think this is just as much an issue with the camera firmware coding as it is the routers). Nevertheless, patience persevered, and all is good. On the plus side, the router does have some security features I appreciate, like the IPS (Intrusion Prevention Service) functionality, and some kind of hybrid anti-virus component, though I can't verify the true functionality and voracity of either. But if they ARE working like a paid prescription otherwise would, then there's a lot to be said for the functionality for the price. And if you're a parent, these can be good features for the less-security conscious youth. Added to the parental controls, it's a good suite of features for a family household. Even at WIFI 6 and AX speeds, though, I still can't detect much improvement over my previous AC speeds, and there are times when I wonder if it's actually slower. But then I open the Deco app and open the 'Network Optimization' tool, and it seems to fix things. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be some kind of learning AI feature or it checks itself against some other criteria to determine it needs to "Fix" something, but still, it helps, even if just a little. I can stream without issue, and no longer get the buffering pause when loading Netflix for the first time that day, so the logo opens up without stuttering, which is oddly satisfying after years of that logo pausing and the sound cutting out right in the middle of the animation. But other than that, streaming is the same, which is to say, great. As to gaming, I can't offer you any knowledge, because I'm an old techie who hasn't been much into gaming since DOOM! was first released almost 30-some years ago. The range is MUCH improved over my previous mesh network, which delights me since I don't need to have a string of extenders to get signal out to my shop anymore. But the node-switching feature seems... lacking? For instance, if I go out to the shop then to the back where the signal from the primary node is weakest, it doesn't automatically kick me over to the closest node, and unless I turn WIFI off then back on again, it will still try to deliver me signal from the primary, furthest node with the weakest strength. Not a deal breaker, but I hope it's something TP-Link is looking at fixing. Once I turn WIFI off then back on it picks the closest node and strongest signal, and I can make it all over my property with signal from there. It's just an inconvenient pain, and a first-world problem, for sure. I recognize I should be embarrassed for my "Entitled" whining, and I am. :) Anyway, a strong product for the price, in my opinion. Others, of course, will balk because of this or that and demand you must pay more for something much better or you'll be branded a failure for life. For me, it works fine. Great, even. But I'm a simple man, and I've never been one who is constantly looking for some life-altering moment or epiphany. If it works, it works. Is there better? I'm sure there is. Worse, too. But it more than fits my needs, and as such, I recommend it.

More effective than I would have ever expected
18 October 2021

I am pleasantly surprised with these! I kept thinking that I wouldn’t actually need them, but I am amazed about how much of a difference they made to my already fast network. These are the best network extenders I have ever used, by a long shot. Their incredible design fits into my style well, and I appreciate how only one of them needs to be connected to ethernet, as I don’t have ethernet throughout my home. The Decos are the easiest networking device I have ever setup. All I did was download the app, and it walks you through every step. Any other networking devices I’ve ever had to use has had hours of excruciating setup, across my many devices. The Decos setup all through the app on my iPhone, and they were ready to use within minutes. I can tell that a lot of ... MoreI am pleasantly surprised with these! The Decos setup all through the app on my iPhone, and they were ready to use within minutes. I can tell that a lot of care went into these, which I really appreciate. The only negative thing I have experienced so far is that the automatic switching feature does NOT work as advertised. When my devices are switching between a Deco to get a signal from, I can notice. The connection completely drops for a second or two, which can be problematic if you’re on a video call, viewing livestreaming content, or streaming other kinds of content. Of course, from day to day use, you won’t notice the temporary disconnection, but it’s something to be aware of. The best way to test any internet equipment is with a speed test. Below using an app called Wi-Fi Sweetspots, on my iPhone 13 Pro (with Wi-Fi 6, taking full advantage of the Deco’s technology). These tests were taken back to back, in the same 8-10 spots. The first test from my router’s direct network was noticeably slower, and disconnected as I stepped outside. The Deco’s network (titled luceros2) was more consistent, and stayed connected as I walked outdoors, on top of similar to better speeds. As you can see the Decos had an incredibly strong effect on my network. If this is the difference it made for me, I can’t imagine how useful it can be for others. I can absolutely recommend this if you’re looking for better network performance, in any shape or form.

No more dropped connections.

I was having a lot of dropped internet signals with my old setup (which was atleast four year old) and this completely fixed it. these work great to help keep wifi signal going strong in the house. Unfortunately I can't make use of the backhaul feature yet with needing some moca adapters to utilize the coax cable in my house but other wise the speed and coverage is great! Though I will say at least for me I notice there's a slight notable switching between the nodes, but it's nothing that would alter regular wifi usage. I only have 2 setup up as opposed to the three so that could play a bit of a role in it as well as me needing a new modem. Otherwise it perfectly suits my needs with area coverage in my two floor town home one upstairs and the other downstairs. The app is really nice to have as well though I wish there was an option to turn off wifi at night, unless I'm just completely oblivious to it lol.

This Mesh System is Awesome!
28 September 2022

This Router worked right out of the box. The Satellite unit connected in less than 1 minute. I plugged in a 10 1000 ethernet switch to my wired connections. The wired connections connected to the internet when the ethernet switch finished booting. The new WI-FI standard is truly a quantum leap in network technology. Every user has commented on how much faster the new mesh network is than its predecessor. In addition, the users have not had a network disconnect when moving around the house. This system has been running for three weeks. I have completely forgotten I installed a new network system in my home. I can't give a higher compliment!I have used TP-Link network products for over 5 years. Works great - after firmware update
18 November 2022

Phone app makes for EZ setupI bought this locally (black Friday - Walmart) had stock and slightly better price for BF.First the APP is great (even for an old guy like me)I did have some trouble at first but did get internet working. When I tested using phone w/ookla speed test (BTW I learned this is the cleanest download speed test - computer programs will often detract from a clean test on computer)Once I did my first test the speed was not up to par (I pay for 500 meg down / 20 meg up)I saw that there was a firmware update, so I had this update, which took about 10 minutes, then I had trouble getting back onto the router - power cycle on the router and solved that issue.Once connected and configured my ISP modem it reconnected and BOOM ookla test on phone up ... MorePhone app makes for EZ setupI bought this locally (black Friday - Walmart) had stock and slightly better price for BF.First the APP is great (even for an old guy like me)I did have some trouble at first but did get internet working. Hopefully it stays great.
