I was looking for a good extender that would be able to boost my 5G network throughout my home and came across this product. I decided to try it out and was very impressed with how easy it was to setup, access the customizations and plug it into compact areas throughout my house. The setup was very easy with an available app to download from the play store. The app walked through everything with ease and quickly detected the device. Upon initial setup you are only giving the basics until after completion you can go back in and fully customize the settings. After the easy setup installation that's where the real fun begins. You can go back in and customize each band along with power settings or disabling a band. I chose to disable the 2.4 band since everything is on the 5 and found it very easy to do. I also like the range finder feature to determine if the extender is in a good location. It has the ability to enable "OneMesh" but unfortunately my router does not have the capability so was unable to test that specific feature. Otherwise all other settings was fun to modify/tweak to your hearts content. One of my worries was how it would fit in small areas in the house. I was glad to see how they setup the plug it does not take up too much space and able to plug additional items in the top socket.Overall this is a great product and I strongly recommend this for anyone who is in need of an extender for their home to boost their network range.

I am impressed with this little WIFI range extender. We realized our household could really benefit from a range extender when we realized how spaced out we use our devices. We have an average sized home but it is on a larger property, and in the back of the house we have a large deck extending 33 feet out from the house, and then the pool. And you guessed it, we often use devices while relaxing in the pool to play music, read, or watch videos. In the front of the house, we of course use our phone from time to time in the driveway area, but we also use home surveillance cameras. All of these devices are very far from the router in the home and would often have a poor connection. This device was incredibly easy to set up. Press two buttons, twice for us because we have 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and that was it, it was set up and working. I do like how the extender creates two more channels differentiated with EXT, our devices have the option to connect directly to the main router still if we are near it in the house, or connect to this extended line when further out in range. I ran internet speed tests before and after installation and was very happy with the numbers. The site even said we had a strong internet connection that could handle multiple devices and streaming, while I was on the other side of the pool, connected to the extender that was located inside near the back door. You really cannot go wrong with creating a mesh system of wifi power in your house, especially if you know you have dead zones. I recommend this for any household that regularly uses devices.

I have a two story home, and the gaming console and our “media room” is on the second level of the house pretty far from router. There is enough of a link to run things, but the speed is on the edge of insufficient. I have in the past purchased a few different range extenders, but they were hit and miss. For the most part, they could connect to the existing signal and essentially extend it, but I only received minimal if any boost over running it off the origin signal alone. Waste of money, and I was not going to buy the double the price ones from my service provider. So TP-Link has been around forever and I have some of their other products. They are always well made, they are durable and they are of a higher level when if comes to function. They are always well made, they are durable and they are of a higher level when if comes to function. So in trying the AX3000 I had a certain expectation with that in mind. After trying it for a few weeks now, I have to say I am not disappointed. The thing I like the most about it is that I get a decent boost. That is the point right? I tested the ratings on wifi alone and compared it to when I linked my phone to the extender. I saw a 15-20% boost depending on where I was upstairs. That is pretty significant and it was enough to give me a “good” signal on my TV in the media room.I also like that fact that it will handle your 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals separately. So devices like my smart lights and other items that prefer 2.4Ghz have their specific signal to connect to. With my service provider (and with most from what I learned) your signals broadcast with the same name and it is up to the individual device to distinguish which one they want. With my smart lights, I couldn’t get them to connect for the life of me and I was not going to buy a setup that would manage everything for me for $200+ dollars. Now it works just fine!Another thing that is awesome is the app. Not only is it extremely intuitive, it also steps you through connecting the two channels and you can name them something independent of what your router broadcasts. There is also a feature for showing you the optimal distance from the router for the device to be most effective. Unfortunate for me, I don’t have any plugs in the “optimal” location, but I placed it as close as I could to the ideal location and I am pleased with the results.Like I started with, I have never been impressed with range extenders but this one changed my mind. It can really handle a higher speed internet connection as well, for those of you measuring speed of 1GBPS or more. I think this is rated at up to 3 GBPS which is insane! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to boost a dead spot in their home like me. I am impressed and I will definitely get another one if I end up needing one.

I received this product in exchange for my fair and honest review. The TP-Link RE-705X AX3000 range extender is both an easy way to expand the coverage of your existing WiFi network and a great way to upgrade your network to 802.11AX WiFi 6 capability. It's easy to setup and use, and the included OneMesh feature makes it capable of seamlessly expanding your existing WiFi when using a compatible router. For those looking to expand your existing WiFi network's range - which is at least 90% of people looking at an extender like this - you'll want to use Tether mode, which allows you to quickly and easily connect the RE-705X to your existing network wirelessly. You can set this up using your tablet or smart phone and the TP-Link Tether app or using a PC or Mac computer with WiFi capability and the extender's built-in web interface. Either way, you tap/click on your network name, enter your password, and you're done. If you have a OneMesh-capable router, the rest of the configuration is automated; if you're using a router that doesn't support OneMesh, then you'll need to create new network names and passwords for the repeated networks, just like with a traditional WiFi extender. For those who already have a perfectly fine router that either lacks WiFi connectivity or you just want a faster WiFi connection, you'll want to use access point mode. You'll have to go in and configure the device through the web interface to use the ethernet port on it as its connection to your network, but once you do, you'll have a superfast WiFi connection available. Note that you cannot use the RE705X in OneMesh mode while using ethernet as the internet source. So now for the positives - the repeater mode works very well with WiFi 5/802.11AC and WiFi 6/802.11 AX routers, access point mode provides throughput speeds parallel with a wired gigabit connection with the right WiFi card in your computer or laptop, and the compact design is easy to hide. The negatives are that OneMesh only works with TP-Link OneMesh routers and nothing else, and OneMesh requires a wireless backhaul. All in all, I can recommend the RE-705X if you need to expand your WiFi coverage, even if you don't have a WiFi 6 router as your primary router. If you want to upgrade your router, however, just get a dedicated Mesh system instead of going extenders.

Also it is possible to reselect a different Main Network if required any time from the app.App Features:1. One Mesh network - This is by default turned on where the Mobile device will seamlessly switch connection between the router or extender that provides the fastest speed when moving through the house.2. High Speed Mode - The extender will automatically disable one of the wireless bands and speeds up the other.3. Location Assistant - Helps in finding the best location for the extender by checking the signal strength received from the router.4. Share Wifi - I did not test this feature5. LED Control - Under Night Mode when enabled the LED will be off during the time specified.6. Wifi Coverage - It is possible to choose between Maximum or Intermediate or Minimum coverage where more power is used when the Maximum coverage is selected.I did some tests with different coverages. Minimum is almost similar to the current network strength. Intermediate has slightly better coverage than Minimum and with Maximum coverage we almost get full signal. I live in an apartment where there are 4 rooms. The main router is in the living room followed by an open kitchen, then 2 bedrooms (one after another). I have kept the Extender in the 1st bedroom so that i will get good signal in the last room (2nd bedroom). I expected the Intermediate coverage to be a bit more powerful but it slightly performed less than my expectation.7. Scheduled Power off - Helps to turn off the extender during a specified time.8. Operation mode - Helps to choose between Range Extender or Access point(where a wired network is transformed to a wireless one) which I did not test either.Speed test:I used 3 different phones to perform the speed test (Moto X4 (4 years old phone), Samsung Galaxy S8 which is 3 years old and then Samsung A71 which is a little more than a year old. Here are the results.Note when I am in the Living room the signal was automatically getting picked from the Main router which has more speed than the extender always. We can know which devices are connected after selecting the Main Router or Extender from the main screen and then clicking on the # of Clients from the top screen.Moto X4 -Living Room (Source - Main router) - 100 Mbps1st bedroom where the Extender is present (Source - Extender) - ~ 70 Mbps2nd bedroom (Source - Main router) - ~ 60 MbpsSamsung X8 -Living Room (Source - Main router) - ~ 120 Mbps1st bedroom where the Extender is present (Source - Extender) - ~ 80 Mbps2nd bedroom (Source - Extender) - ~ 70 MbpsSamsung A71 -Living Room (Source - Main router) - ~ 160 Mbps1st bedroom where the Extender is present (Source - Extender) - ~ 110 Mbps2nd bedroom (Source - Extender) - ~ 100 MbpsI did the same test from my Samsung A71 phone with the Extender disconnected. To my surprise i saw that the speeds that I got in both the bedrooms where 10 to 20 Mbps more than that of the Extender. Not sure why the Extender was getting used when the Main router had more speeds than the Extender. Maybe for someone who have a little bit older router which is no Wifi 6 compatible I think the extender might be getting them good speeds. In my opinion people who have a latest router with more coverage may be disappointed as the Extender tries to use the extender as it is nearer even though the main router has better speeds.Downsides:1. Heating - I was using the Wifi Extender with Maximum coverage option selected. I saw that the extender was very hot when i tried to unplug the extender from the wall socket. I feel TP Link should have done better in trying to cool the equipment as I am pretty confident if the device gets overheated it might stop working in few years.2. Switching between Main Router and Extender... I think TP Link should be better able to select the fastest network than selecting the device which has more signal strength. I don't think this sounds right and TP Link should probably fix this. Having said that I doubt if the One Mesh network works as expected.Note - The speeds I have mentioned above are from the tests that I performed during a specific time. Even the difference in speed between each device might be + or - 10 to 20 Mbps. It may vary at different times and might vary depending on the hardware used.
I am lucking to live in a city that has invested millions of dollars in creating its own fiber optic-based ISP. The service is excellent and speeds are great. My router is located in my second-floor office but my home theater is located in my basement so coverage is weaker. The house including the basement is 4200 sq. ft. The ISP offers a solution that solved this issue however at a monthly cost. I was really hoping this TP Link extender would allow me to improve my coverage and be able to eliminate the monthly cost of my current extender. The TP Link was very easy to set up by loading their Tether app and placing the extender close to your router and following the directions in the app. Once the extender is connected you can then reposition it to improve coverage ... MoreI am lucking to live in a city that has invested millions of dollars in creating its own fiber optic-based ISP. I was really hoping this TP Link extender would allow me to improve my coverage and be able to eliminate the monthly cost of my current extender. The TP Link was very easy to set up by loading their Tether app and placing the extender close to your router and following the directions in the app. Once the extender is connected you can then reposition it to improve coverage in areas where you need it. I first disconnected my existing extender so not to interfere with the TP Link. I initially installed the TP Link on my first floor and ran speed tests in both 2.4 and 5 Gig in my basement with no improvement. As a matter of fact, the speed tests showed lower speeds than not having the extender connected at all. I then installed the extender in my basement at multiple different locations and had the same experience. The app was showing the extender was getting a strong signal but no matter where I placed the extender I was getting the same results. The speed test results showed slower speeds with the extender connected. I then placed the extender in my master bedroom next to my office and router and got the same results. This extender did not provide any improvement in coverage or speed no matter how close to my router it was placed. I also noticed it got extremely warm. I don’t know if this has an impact on the performance or not. In the end I was not able to get any improvement and went back to my existing extender and will continue to pay the monthly fee. The good news is our ISP is so reasonable that the added cost of the extender isn’t really noticeable.
I have a traditional farmhouse that spans three levels, with exterior cameras on the opposite corner from the router, gaming consoles upstairs directly above the router, and music and video streaming in the basement below the router. I've tried many different mesh router and extender configurations, however nothing has been as easy and performed as well as the TP-Link AX3000 range extender. In the box is the extender and a quick install guide. The extender plugs directly into the wall, and is 5" x 3" with two movable antennas extending another ~3" above the router. This is important to note if you have limited space around your outlet. The extender plugs directly into the wall, and is 5" x 3" with two movable antennas extending another ~3" above the router. This is important to note if you have limited space around your outlet. Setup takes less than 5 minutes, install the TP-Link tether app, search for device and follow instructions. The app will need the router password, and the rest of the setup is seamless, including the setup of dual bands, which is necessary if you have IoT or older devices that run on 2.4G only. The app is intuitive, connect your phone to the extender network, open the app, and you can view both the 2.4G and the 5G network strength, see hardware / software versions and IP address of the extender, and view devices connected to the extender on each band. There is a third tab with settings, access control, and a location assistance to find the optimal placement. Another great feature is 'night mode' allowing you to turn off the status LEDs between set hours if you need to place the extender in a bedroom or other area where light pollution isn't desired. If you live in a situation such as an apartment where a limited wireless range is desired, the settings tab also allows for coverage to be adjusted from minimum, to intermediate, to maximum. As far as performance goes, the extender provides signals to all areas of my house, and on all floors. I used the app to find optimal placement, which was 25', almost line of sight, from the router. The wall outlet is only a few inches below the window sill so the antenna are required to sit at an angle under the window ledge (see photo). From that placement I have 75% signal on 5G at 30' away, through an exterior wall. The outdoor security cameras have full signal on 2.4G at 35' away, through two exterior walls. I still have a strong enough signal for streaming music and video both upstairs and in the basement from the current placement.Overall, I think this is a great extender for large coverage with multiple devices. If you have a gamer in the family, take note that there is a high speed access point for ethernet connection on the side of the extender. My teen takes the extender when he goes to friend's houses to game, he likes the portability and the ease of moving the extender between networks.
We’ve all got “that spot”. That spot in your house, office, or yard that just barely gets WiFi if you hold your phone at just the right angle, in just the right direction, at just the right height. For me, “that spot” is in the basement in a corner. We’ve got a smart TV there now and it just barely gets enough signal to stream videos “most of the time”, plus my oldest son would like to make this his new “gaming area” so we needed to do something about the signal ASAP. Enter the RE705x, and this weekend I was finally able to bring good signal to that location to reliably stream movies and provide a good gaming experience.Setup was simple, I chose to use the “web browser” method because I didn’t want an app for something I plan to leave alone once it’s working, but ... MoreWe’ve all got “that spot”. Enter the RE705x, and this weekend I was finally able to bring good signal to that location to reliably stream movies and provide a good gaming experience.Setup was simple, I chose to use the “web browser” method because I didn’t want an app for something I plan to leave alone once it’s working, but if you prefer apps you can download and use the TPLink Tether app method. That said, I found a spot elsewhere in the basement that gets good signal, plugged the the RE705x into a power outlet there, then wired my laptop to the Ethernet port. In its default configuration the RE705x will detect if it should provide IP addresses for initial setup, which then allows you to access its web page to do the rest of the configuration. It was a simple matter from there to set a non-default password, scan for and choose the wifi network I wanted to extend, and then configure the properties for the repeater WiFi signal (if desired), or leave the repeater off and allow the RE705x to instead bridge the WiFi to just the ethernet port. Both methods worked fine for me with no fuss, though for sake of a simpler setup and a little better performance I ultimately opted to leave the repeater WiFi off and just use the RE705x to bridge the signal to Ethernet, and then used a small switch and some Ethernet cables to split that into additional wired connections for the TV and gaming consoles. Doing it this way shaved some latency off my son’s gaming consoles which was a high priority to him.In the end we ended up with a setup in that corner that reliably pulls ~100Mbps with <10ms of latency. This has been more than enough to meet the practical streaming needs of the TV, which we streamed music and videos from nearly all day to stress test the link and it worked flawlessly. Later that night my son put the latency more to task with some online gaming and he didn’t have any noticeable issues. A direct-wired connection would probably shave a few more milliseconds off but the RE705x did the trick well enough without the need to pull cable or drill any holes in walls which is a win, and now “that spot” in the basement is a fully functional TV and gaming center. The RE705x can also be used as a more traditional AP (Access Point), although I didn’t use this mode beyond some testing just to familiarize myself with its capabilities and options. Just change the mode in the UI to AP (Access Point), reboot, configure the AP properties, and use the Ethernet port as the uplink to the rest of the network. The RE705x was simple to setup, and seems to do its job reliably and effectively, and that’s exactly what I suspect most people want out of it.
