You will need to purchase a good quality SD Card for local recording but you have the option to purchase cloud storage if you wish. As reported in the previous review, the colour 2k picture is fantastic, and at night is amazing - a really good, full colour picture. Worth the extra cost over the cheaper 310 model. I bought at the same time a Eufy 2k, 2-camera + base station set up for the back garden. This is IR only, and does not give nearly as good a picture at the TP Link camera at night. For my money I could have bought 4 of these instead of the Eufy 2-cam setup. Don't get me wrong, the Eufy is also excellent, but provided you can get a mains power supply, the TP Link camera is much better value for money. Many thanks JL - not cheaper anywhere ... The camera has excellent features. Good night vision, sound good, easy to work with Alexa. Great I can see my house from the USA. Love how easy it is to set up. Only negative memory card hard to get working had to but card with FAT 32 formatted. Original card no good be aware when purchasing memory cards FAT Ex format won't work and windows won't format 256 go. The card holder screws fell out during placing on cover had to tape it up to stay in place. Contacted Tapo couldn't supply replacement screws, now card won't stay in keeps coming out won't record whilst away.
Pros: Finally a security camera that works as expected. I have had no extraneous alerts at all. Easy to set up and has no problems re-starting after power offs. Cons: The app mostly. I assume the app. is UK based as it connects very quickly. When viewing the list of alerts, the space at the bottom of the screen is very small making trawling through the alerts very awkward. There were no instructions for downloading the alerts (from SD card) and can only do so by hitting the video record button which I assume is the correct procedure. But because the alert video starts immediately, by the time you hit tge record button, you can lose a few seconds at the start.
Overall I am pleased with the product and would recommend it. On the positive side it's very good value. Resolution is very good. Good colour night vision. Software is easy to use and setup is simple and straightforward. Viewing area at 130 degrees is great. On site storage with a MicroSD card means no monthly service charges. Fully AC powered means no issues with replacing batteries. On the negative side power is not always available which may be limiting for some installations. Making a 3/4" hole to install the wires is a pain and can be unsightly if the camera needs to be relocated. It would be better if the Ethernet connection could be disconnected. You get alerts to your phone for any triggered event, which can be just movement, eg. animal, car, etc., or a person, of course. The app works well and it's easy to set up the camera. The downside with this camera is that you can't download recordings from triggered events recorded on the SD card. To be able to download triggered events you have to pay a monthly subscription for a cloud based service. Any event is then recorded in 'the cloud' instead of on the SD card, and then you can download them. But (I assume) if you don't have the cloud service, you could remove the SD card and connect it to a computer to ... Purchased this a few weeks ago and so far it's been a delight to use. Video quality is very good and have used a 256Gb Memory Card to have continuous recording - no monthly subscriptions required here. There is a "Full Colour Night" mode, which is really good, far better than the infra-red view in low light conditions. The only real complaint I have is that there is no way to make the light trigger when Motion is Detected. Rather you can make the LEDs flash with or without the Siren. So I would find that a Light being triggered would be better. But for the price there's a lot of functionality. Hopefully a future update will correct this.

Both cameras have 'Excellent Sig. Strength approx. -36dB RSSI so that's not the issue. Running Sandisk Extreme Pro 128Gb SD (4K capable) and also paid for Tapo's Subscription. Turned off ALL settings and left pretty much recording with AI Detection and also dropped back to 1080p from 2K. Only way to get everything back on track again is Full Router/Smart modem reboot which impacts the whole entire SmartHome setup. (running Telstra's Gen3 Smartmodem, with 3 meshed boosters. Only the cameras have the issue. On the plus side, these cameras do have a decent picture, frame rate is ok ...
