Product was packaged well, there was additional packaging on top of the product package itself with papers to absorb shocks. On the side note, the product packaging was different as marketed. The packaging is white instead of green packaging as stated above. Nevertheless, the unboxing experience feels like unboxing a new phone, the product is really well packaged. 7+2 ports are more than enough for a typical laptop. Additionally, product arrived two days earlier than estimated, which is awesome!

A little more than I expected for a USB Hub - there are much less expensive variants available - but this one has dedicated 2.5A charging sockets - great for my apple stuff and for quick charging my Garmin watch. The other 7 USB sockets are great for charging too when you don't need that extra current. The speed throughput is great but the real clincher for me was the length of the connecting lead which allowed me to position the hub on my desk for easy access instead of having it dangle precariously out of the back or front of my mini-tower case. Overall I'm really pleased with it, the construction and quality is great - just what you'd expect from TP-Link. If you are after a cheap and cheerful quick fix, there are other solutions. But, if you want a good quality ... USB plug falls out. The plastic case is too thick and the circuit board sits too far inside for a proper connection to be made. If you push the connector in really hard you can just barely get it to connect, but just touching the cable and it falls out. It's not the connector on the cable. I took the internal circuit board out of the case and connected the cable. You get a firm "snick" and can feel the connector set in the socket. It's the design of the case (too thick) and placement of the circuit board (too far) inside the case.

I ordered a TP-Link USB 3.0 7-Port Hub with 2 Charging PortsOnce again Scorptec exceed expectations with a speedy no fuss delivery, The more that I have to do with this company the more I like them. In today's cut-throat business World, the service offered by Scorptec is exceptional. They have become my first port of call for my computing and technology needs.
I don't have any particular method to test the data transfer rate but I hooked up an Elgato CamLink to the USB hub and I can only get 480p out of it. When I plug directly into the computer I get the full 1080p 60fps. The odd thing is that if you plug into a USB 2 port then the CamLink will tell you it needs USB 3. So, somehow it knows it's USB 3, but only provides 480p... The only thing I can think is that the CamLink needs more power but this hub is externally powered with a 1A supply and it was the only thing plugged in so that doesn't make sense to me. I also tried plugging in an external CD-ROM device and it would not run applications from the CD-ROM, I had to copy the files to my local drive for them to open properly. It did run the applications from the CD-ROM ... It did run the applications from the CD-ROM when I plugged it into my computer directly. Both of these issues are with external power and the USB cord attached. I'm debating returning it but I'm not sure if it's specific to this brand/device or if I'd see the same issues with other hubs, I went with TP-Link as their products are usually good quality.
I had originally rated this 3 stars, mostly due to the sloppy fitment of the USB input cable. After a year of use this issue became unbearable– even sitting on my desk, it would lose connection with the slightest touch. I ultimately Gorilla Glue'd a cable into mine, which is ridiculous but the alternative was to throw it away. Perhaps you can chalk this up to a manufacturing defect, but even overlooking that, the huge power brick and landmine of a non-recessed power switch right on top make this a pretty unattractive choice.
The good: it works, it's reasonably small, it's inexpensive, and the LED indicators show what ports are functional without being garishly bright. It is very light, which is both a pro and a con.The bad: UBS input fitment is quite sloppy, I have had it disconnect multiple times just sitting on my desk. This device would be worthless for mobile applications due to this problem. The power switch is not recessed or protected in any way, offering you yet another way to accidentally disconnect everything- who turns off a USB hub, anyhow? The AC inverter (wall wart) is easily the largest one I have ever seen. It is very light, meaning it won't sit flat on your desk, and will instead float to whatever position the cables lift it to (and you can't put anything on top of it ... The packaging is wildly excessive.Overall this works fine but they are assuredly much better choices out there, I would advise potential buyers to keep shopping.
Reasonably compact, ample ports, and throughput seems on par. The LED indicators are nice and small, don't flash, and are all white- it's a reasonably pleasant desk companion. The build is all plastic with a little rubber on the bottom to keep it from sliding. It is very light, which is a pro if you are taking it with you, and a con if you intend to leave it on your desk. This has a big power switch right on top with no protection from accidental bumps. I don't quite get the point of this is, do people turn off their USB hubs? Seems like another potential fail point to me, and a recipe for accidental disconnection- but perhaps there is a use-case where this is handy. On the con side, the power inverter is massive. It is angled to only take up one slot on most receptacles or power strips, but it is the largest inverter I have at my desk (and I have many). This device also arrives wildly over-packaged. It comes in a box 20x the volume of the product with a million little pieces of glossy colorful cardboard and a bunch of needless plastic film and bags, as though it were something much more valuable than what it is.Overall, if you are after a reasonably low-cost USB 3 hub with a bunch of ports and good power throughput, this seems like a good pick.
This is the 3rd powered USB hub I've tried with my 2014 MacBook Pro, and it's the only one that could handle keyboard, mouse, bus powered hard drive, memory card reader, USB headset and a Wacom tablet, and all at the same time without a hiccup. Have had no issues when waking laptop from sleep mode; didn't miss a beat. Charging works well, feels well built, all plugs and connections are solid (and I bought mine used), so can't speak to other reviews of loose connections and such. Very happy with this purchase.
