I purchased the "Rusty Rat" version of this guitar. Really an impeccable instrument. Yamaha isn't kidding when they say they pulled no stops for the Japanese version of this Revstar. (I have not tried the other - I believe - Indonesian versions. I'm sure they're great too).Pros:Really a beautiful level of detail. Not a flaw on the thing. I own Strats, Les Pauls, and PRSs. In fact, it reminds me more of a 60s SG neck. Quite thin and wide, in fact. Perhaps others are chunkier? Just know that if you're buying for a chunky feel - you may not get it.Again, personal, but I don't really like the look of the pickup covers. I think they were going for an aged look-type of thing. Really not a big deal at all. It's convincing at a distance. :)Head dive - also similar to an SG, mine has a bit of head dive. It's not bad - and I've just gotten used to it. But don't be surprised by it.A very minor nit to pick - the tone pot crackles quite a bit when you turn it. Not sure if it's dirty or if it's on purpose since it's a push/pull? Not that big of a deal. Could just be this one.

From the moment I picked this guitar up, I've hardly been able to put it down at all. It's solid and beautifully crafted, and the neck feels wonderful and smooth in the hand, and the range of tones it produces are amazing. A perfectly designed balance of aesthetics, functionality and playability.

I also would say that the hardware on this instrument is absolutely first rate, from the tuners to the TonePros bridge, everything about this guitar says it's top quality.The dry switch is a nice feature, this is much more useful than a coil tap for me - it filters some of the lows out to give you some extra cut-through. Basically it lets you create single-coil like tones without losing output or losing the benefits of hum canceling. Really nice and thoughtful feature.I can't recommend this enough. Yamaha is the most underrated manufacturer out there, and after they have basically taken over woodwind and brasswind with their amazing quality in orchestral instruments, it's no surprise that Yamaha is becoming a force in guitars and amplifiers. Love, love this guitar.
This is my favourite guitar and I have a nice collection of Fenders and Gibsons to compare it with. The built quality is faultless. The neck radius, width and frets make playing an effortless experience and when I have this guitar in my hand my playing seems to go to a different level. Some people may not like the Matt finish but you can, as I did, polish it up to a nice shine with some guitar polish. It's a pity that more shops don't stock this guitar, I had to go to London to try one out because there isn't a single shop in the whole of Ireland that stocks the Rebstar range. If you get the chance ignore the logo on the headstock and try one out, hopefully you'll come to the same conclusion as me.
I don't play "out" anymore but if I did I would most definitely be packin' my Japanese Revstar to EVERY SHOW. This guitar is FLAWLESS. The finish is amazing. The fretboard and frets are so sweet that I wanna eat this thing. The DRY SWITCH is more than just 'interesting' too. When you want to remove some of the 'muddy warmness' from the sound you activate the dry switch which rolls off some low end and gives you a more single coil'ish kind of tone that cuts thru the mix nicely. I can't say enough about how much love and care the luthier put into this guitar. This one... I will NEVER sell & there's never been a nicer guitar in my collection over 50 years. LOVE.

I have a mim Tele configured with HB's that needs new pups and I was planning to buy Lollar HB's but then I came across this Yamaha. I have a Yamaha bass that is outstanding. By the way, I got a level 2 open box and I could find nothing wrong, nothing. My theory is Yamaha's strategy to attack Gibson's hold on the HB guitar is just to go all the way with quality and "quality control." They have succeeded. I was a believer that wood in an electric guitar made little difference. Well this mahogany and maple has music inside that wants expression. The total exceeds the sum of the parts. This is a keeper the mim goes on the auction block.
Personal enjoyment. The finish on the back is like a high end piano.
