Affordable & effective👍

Excellent, affordable and effective tool to aerate the lawn👍Gentle, extended outdoor exercise!Takes many hours to complete so plan to do over quite a few days if you have a large lawn or several lawns.I first tried with a garden pitchfork and gave up as I have firm clay based soil. The prongs on this glide easily into damp, pre-hosed lawn. Easy to manually operate by simply stepping on the cross plate bar, juggle left and right for full soil bed penetration and then jiggle slightly back and forth to extract the prongs easily. It's all in the wrist action - sexy spent garden time! 😅

If you have a clay based lawn solid tine aerators like this will only make the problem worse. It looks like it's making nice holes in your lawn, but every time you push the spikes in, the soil around them is forced outwards, further compacting it. Please understand that unless you are REMOVING soil you are not aerating it! Do yourself a favour and buy a proper hollow tine aerator instead. Also, please forget about the sandals and spiked rollers, they are a complete joke and waste of money. They don't remove any soil, the holes are too small and not deep enough to have any lasting affect. Make sure you do some research, before wasting time and money on any solid tine aerators.

Does what it says on the tin :)

Have covered approximately 130m² with this tool. A few tips - you'll wear yourself out very quickly if you just try and jump on it to get it all the way into the turf each time. Start by stepping on it, then use a rocking motion left and right to get the tool down to depth. This can even push some small rocks down into the soil. Then rock it back and forth to widen the hole. In areas with thick matting you can sometimes hear the grass tear. The tool will then come out easily. It's still a bit of effort to cover a smaller sized lawn but it's worth it for the results. Great tool.

Great product
20 August 2022

Bought today. After reading reviews of other aeraters I chose this one. A great choice indeed. Works very well and meets all expectations. Certainly much easier to use compared to a garden fork. After checking other products in store I can see why they did not rate as high. I can certainly recommend this as being the best on offer.

Hard work but effective

You'll possibly be up for some hard yakka but it works. My lawn was so wet and soggy that i just shoved it in one handed then pulled it to the side to loosen grass, rinse repeat, rinse repeat. I will probably be sore tomorrow but hopefully the grass will be less soggy, the kids less muddy, and the wife happier. If it can achieve all that, I will add another star.

It works!

Sturdy tool, used to aerate a lawn atop a clay ground. Some small stones and gritty material amongst the soil beneath the lawn but didn’t cause any problems. Was harder to try to push the fork straight down but super easy to stand and gently rock it side to side into the ground. Can be a bit uncomfortable on bare hands after a while, a bigger handle area would be good, or wear comfy gardening gloves! Would be great if the tool came in another size with larger spikes.

Not for the expectant, lazy, or easily dispirited

Well made and robust. Will last and last. It's a bit hit and miss when using this implement, particularly if you have plenty of stones and clay clods in your subsoil. Can be frustrating coming up against regular obstructions. Be sure to wear gloves to guard against blisters and set aside a good hour to cover even a small area of lawn and _wear sturdy shoes_. It gives you quite a workout. More suited to small lawn areas. If you have a larger lawn, simply hire a lawn aerator or pay for specialists to aerate for you. If you have consistently rocky soil or there's rubble fill under your lawn, don't buy. This implement will come into its own as a means of dealing with limited areas of compaction that will need a bit of a lift in between yearly professional aerations. It ... MoreWell made and robust. Don't expect miracles and be prepared to put in some serious effort to get the spikes all the way in. Golden rule: water your lawn deeply the day or hours before and let it soak in before going at it.

Solid tool!

High quality, well priced tool. Doesn’t pull up plugs like a hollow version, but it isn’t supposed to! It will of course take a bit of time to do larger sections of lawn, but put some earphones in, relax and enjoy the process. As the review said above, don’t jump on it each time. Spray your lawn with a bit of water or aerate after a bit of rain, push tool in, wiggle back and forth, pull out. You’ll achieve great results. 5 stars.

Strong and Sturdy.

Sturdy. I could see the results in my buffalo lawn a week later. Gives a good 2 hr workout aerating the whole lawn. I discovered several sub-surface rocks where the grass wasn't growing well - shows that whoever laid the turf didn't do a good job - an important detail when you are a tenant looking after the landlord's lawn.I wish there was an additional model with the spikes twice as long.

Trojan Spiked Aerator - YES!
4 November 2021

My main concern about this product was whether it would insert easily into the ground. I had tried aerating my lawn with a garden fork, which was so difficult for this 4'10" 60 year old female with arthritis, so I took the plunge with this aerator after reading the reviews. Another selling point for me, was that the Trojan had pointier spikes than other products I saw online, and thought they would make insertion easier. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The aerator did go in easily. As with another reviewer, it went in easier by inserting one end and then the other - sort of a rocking motion (hard to explain, but will be self explanatory when you try it). As easy as it is to use, it is more suitable for smaller areas. I only had a small front lawn and nature strip to do, so it worked very well for me.Also, if you follow some of the guides on lawn aeration, they say to insert 10cms deep, but the spikes on the Trojan are only about 8cm long (only an issue if you're very fussy about following recommendations).I'm very happy with this product.
