Wide open this lens is soft, perfect for those soft-focus/dreamy portraits. Between f/2.8 and f/5.6 it is a sharp manual focus lens for any subject. At f/8 your camera becomes a point-and-shoot -- very sharp images from 0.5m to infinity. This lens does a great job as a near-macro -- focuses to 8 inches from the sensor (See attached flower photo).

Cant beat the quality for the price

This is the lens that's standard on my camera most days during travel or random photo hikes. The colors are accurate, and its reasonably sharp through most of the frame. The build quality is excellent, solid metal with a good weight to it, only disadvantage is that its very cold and adds to the iced fingers feeling on single digit days.I'd say its definitely worth having in your kit as an essential focal length and for its solid low light capabilities.

Using the TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 on my Olympus E-M5II is such a joy it's become my new standard. Like the TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 and 50 f/1.2, this one is very well built and almost crisp sharp one or two stops down. I'd happily use them wide open with no problem whatsoever, as corner softness does not really matter with these focal lengths. Also, the advantage of using these lenses on M43 cameras assures the unwanted extremes are not a factor.Only downside with these pure mechanical lenses is you lose all info communication with camera body for exif and such.

Probably good for M4/3, but far corners...
22 March 2023

Bought this during a Christmas sale at another site for a minor discount. Good thing, since all four, far corners are not acceptable sharp until f8 on my FUJI X-h1. I am pretty sure I would rate this four stars if I was shooting this on a m4/3, but I cannot recommend this lens for high-res, aps-c cameras. Guess I could crop in, but what is the point of buying a wide angle, aps-c lens? Cheap is not always good or even decent... (test before you keep!)

Punches far above its weight

Yes, it's manual focus. Yes, it's heavy. It's a very old-school experience. But if you just learn some basic zone focusing, it works great for a LOT of situations. And the images you get are really stunning. Like, $800 lens stunning, with impressive contrast and beautiful bokeh. And the build quality is exquisite. It's a really fun lens, and at its price it's a great deal.

Quality exceeds price by 10x

This lens should be an embarrassment for other manufacturers. If all you care about is shaaarrpppness then you probably aren't even looking at this page anyway. If you care about 3D pop, deep tonality, and life-like rendering, this lens rivals anything from German manufacturers known for those characteristics and costing 7-13x as much. Even things you wouldn't expect from a $100 lens like great flare performance - this lens has it.Only nitpicks are the weird jump in the aperture ring from f8 to f16 and the comical heaviness of the lens. I have plenty of all metal lenses and even ones twice this size aren't this heavy. Does it feel quality and built like a tank? Absolutely. It's also as heavy as a tank and on a tiny Fuji X-E body makes the camera stupidly front ... MoreThis lens should be an embarrassment for other manufacturers. Refreshing
28 March 2022

Nice size, little heavy but a perfect weight balance on my Canon M6. I love how the advent of mirrorless has facilitated a return to manual focus lenses and this one is great. Not a single complaint, nice nostalgic character to the images from it, but with modern sharpness and colors. Leaving it on the M6 in lieu of the 22mm f/2 all the time now.

So far my favorite from TTArtisan, great for the price.

First off I love the silver and black styling, as well as the slip-on lens cap and build quality. The small size is also very impressive. Image quality is really nice as long as you know how to use this lens and account for it's shortcomings. For brick walls you'll need something else, this lens has noticeable field curvature. For closer portraits at f/1.4 I love it and this is primarily what I use it for. For mid-distance subjects you begin to notice the field curvature going into the corners which detracts from the overall rendering, the biggest con of this lens IMO. For sharp landscapes or similars you'll need to stop down to at least f/5.6. This little lens had been glued to my X-T2 lately, I find it pairs well with a contrasty film simulation and particularly ... MoreFirst off I love the silver and black styling, as well as the slip-on lens cap and build quality. Vintage lens look; Modern build quality
31 December 2022

This lens is just really fun! It pairs really well with a z30 and delivers a type and quality of pictures that is both early 90's Canon film look with the reliable use of a modern lens. You don't have to find an overpriced older lens with character, you can just buy a brand new, well built, cheap lens with built in character.

this is a great lens!

I haven't had any problems with this lens. great depth of field. the only thing is that when you first get the lens you have to enable shooting without a lens because the camera doesn't know that there is a lens attached because there are no electronics on the lens other than that this is a great lens and i love tt artison a a brand
