Good sturdy compost bin. No seams or screws, it is robust, sturdy and does not fall apart. The lid fits well and should not blow off. This is our second of these and the first on we purchased many years ago is going still going strong.

A large and sturdy bin. Being a wide squat shape its easy load. Currently being used to compost hay and droppings from chook yard. Being black it just blends into the corner of the yard and it gets nice and hot inside to neutralise bacteria and weed seeds. I'm very happy with it. Not sure if it will be UV proof in the long term.

Very happy with this big sturdy compost bin after 4 weeks use, it holds a large amount of garden and kitchen waste and is good value for the price, with a 12 year warranty. It is quite large but delivery charge by Bunnings was reasonable at $10. I plan to buy a second one when I manage to fill this one.

Bought this compost bin online due to issues with rodents getting into more open bins. So far so good! Did put rodent proof mesh on the underside of the bin and fold it up over the external lip to prevet them digging under it which has worked. Large size and easy to open.Ordered online as wouldn’t fit in my car, process was easy and convenient.
Have put a couple of loads of compost through this bin now & am very pleased with the results. Have a much smaller green Gedye compost bin for over 10 years now & can say the 40lt is 100% better. Lower in height with a large opening making loading, turning with the Compost Mate & unloading nice & easy. No holes in the sides like the old one so the contents don’t dry out. Good sturdy product, well fitting lid that won’t blow off. Have purchased another for general yard waste & looking to buy another to boost compost production. Had it delivered with other goodies - way to big unless you have a ute. Great product, expecting it will last a very long time. Well done Tumbleweed!
I had one of these since 2013. Great quality. It was sitting in my garden for all these years with veggies scraps in them. My first attempt at composting. Then I got disinterested and it was just sitting idle there, not exactly under shade, but not in full sun either. Very good piece of plastic, seven years now and still in tact, no cracks. Never had any problems with it. Just recently got interested in gardening again, decided to buy myself another compost bin as the first one is getting full. As you can see in the picture, the old one is only faded in colour after 7 years in the outdoor setting. With this new one I have no problems with the lid as the other reviewers stated. I bought this bin as a quick and easy way to get going with composting, it seems very sturdy and the size is perfect. However... I could NOT get the lid off! I had my hand in the intuitive place to put them but it would not budge. My husband ended up putting his hands where the latches are and was able to prize it off. So if you're afraid of breaking a fingernail, I wouldn't recommend it. A screw top lid would be equally pest proof and a lot easier to use. I've now given up on the lid, I just sit it on top and place a brick on it :-/ As for 'would I recommend this product to a friend', if there was an option for 'maybe'. I'd select that.
The Tumbleweed Compost Bin is a very good product. I live in a very windy area and the lid fits very tightly so it doesn't blow off like the lids on my other two (different) compost bins (I have to put rocks on top of them to keep the lids on!). However, the lid is still easy to remove when you need to put stuff in. It is also priced very reasonably. Heartily recommended!
It works Ok, I could not get the lid off, there must be a trick, never worked it out the lid broke so it became moot. The lid sort of clips on now, comes off easy, hasn't blown off in the wind just torn. Not worth taking it back. It is full of stuff and is composting away nicely.On the up side the body is one piece so nothing to come apart, put it on the ground and it just works.Only reason I would not reccomend is because of the lid. Seems to be a common problem and was far too hard until it broke.
Currently using with a Compost Mate tool for turning. After trying a lot of different designs over the last 20 years, this is my favourite set-up -- no rodents, ground contact for bugs and mycelium, survived full sun and frost, really easy to manage. Was worried about air flow, but everything breaks down very quickly with regular turning. Have purchased a second Tumbleweed Gedye to let the first one rest.
