The Victorian Age filled with the spirit of the Industrial Revolution is a source of internal inspiration for designers and engineers. Ugears turns to this fascinating era once again to create the V-Express Steam Train with Tender. The minutely detailed design of the Express reveals the beauty of moving details: gears and a flywheel, and the work of cylinder-piston arrangement. One full winding will give your Express energy enough to cover a distance of up to four meters. The locomotive has three settings: forward, back and idle. Switch it into the Back setting and the Express will roll back and automatically hook up with its tender. The coal car with lifting sides has a hatch that you can lock with a tiny latch. Assembling the Ugears V-Express Steam Train with Tender you will feel like an inventor engineer discovering for the first time the magic of the complex mechanism taking shape in your hands. The V-Express Steam Train with Tender kit includes 2.45 meters of tracks.

This is an amazing model. I built it a year ago and it has been sitting on my desk at work. There were a couple directions that were confusing and resulted in the breaking of the u-joint. Make sure you read carefully. None of the parts ever required any over-forcing. Therefore, if you find yourself putting more pressure than yo uthink you should, you are most likely correct. Back off and make sure it is correct.A suggestion for U-Gears - Please create additional tenders that can be added to the train or allow for the purchase of the two sheets that are required to create the existing tender. I reached out but UGears does not offer the sheets for the tender separately which is understandable. The idea was to add additional tenders and I would stain each one a ... MoreThis is an amazing model. I built it a year ago and it has been sitting on my desk at work. Great kit for being temporally shut-in , gave me something to look forward to. The design is fascinating. I look at it as a piece of art (being an artist myself). The engineering is wonderful as well as the presentation as a package (I was in advertising). I noticed in some reviews of this and other models by Ugears that some builders were braking pieces released from the plywood sheets. I started at the top (before opening the box) by folding a small bath towel in half to use as a working surface. Instruction right in front of me, I laid out each plywood sheet one at a time above the instruction folder. Using the "tool" that looks like a small rocket ship, I pushed any separate piece out against the double thick towel. I only "punched" out one piece at a time as ... MoreGreat kit for being temporally shut-in , gave me something to look forward to. The design is fascinating. All 500+ parts separated without a brake. Just a note,.... follow great directions religiously, I missed one detail that put me in a take apart mode to fix, ..............my fault. Hope this helps,............... absolutely a wonderful build.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this train model. I've built many plastic models over the years and wanted to try something different. Well, this exceeded all expectations. The level of design, functioning pieces, doors, levers, attention of locomotive details, and a working drive train made building this model fun every moment. You have to take time separating pieces from the wood blocks, but it's really no different from a plastic model in that way. The end state leaves you with a stunning creation. I will definitely be back to try other DIFFICULT models....

Fun build, I really enjoy these wooden models. This is my second large build, I also built the catamaran. Waxing pieces is not my favorite activity, and there is a lot of that in this build. Nice details. The engine was a little sticky getting moving, but overall really cool and fun to put together.
This is my first Ugears model and it was a lot of fun. I broke a couple pieces but Ugears replaced them. The YouTube video was helpful to figure out how some of the parts needed to be assembled. I did resort to using a small jeweler's mallet and I bought some snips to cut the toothpicks. I cannot wait to start on the next model: the windmill. This has a difficulty rating of hard. I am not sure what that is based on. It took patience and time but it wasn't hard.
The V-Express Steam Train with Tender kit was my 3rd U-Gears build, the 2 prior being the Steam Locomotive with Tender and the Walter E. Disney Theme Parks Train.I’ve had countless evenings of enjoyment passing the time away, assembling these kits. You will find that fine grit sandpaper and candle wax “are your friends”, when piecing these these models together. The instruction book that comes with each kit, in my opinion is top notch, each with large, colourful, easy to follow and understand directions as you work through the steps of the build. The key with the instructions is to pay close attention to what is indicated with each step! Some of the pieces are very small and delicate to remove from their boards, but if care is taken, they can be removed without damaging them. You must have patience when assembling some of the pieces as they are laser cut to fit together with precision, this is where a little candle wax will come in handy.Once the gears are from their boards, do not forget to lightly sand the burrs and then wax the outer their edges. This will make them work much more smoothly. If you have patience and time, once completed, I think you will discover like I did, the result is a beautiful model that makes a great display piece.I would recommend these U-Gears kits to anyone who likes a challenge.Good building!
All in all i was very happy with the quality and detailed instructions. My only negative that i can say about the model is the amount of elastics that are required for the wined up, this was extremely challenging as was with measuring the elastic band sizes. Other companies offer three different size elastic bands for each purpose making it easier for installation. Will for sure to purchase more and possibly one that is more challenging.
Just as challenging as the fire ladder truck. I like the fact that it goes forward and reverse drive. I also like the fact that they gave a few extra critical parts in case of accidental breakage. So far I got the wind up mechanism and all the gear assembly's done. I wish that Ugears make more train cars such as a oil tanker, caboose and passenger cars.
Super fun to build! Looks beautiful!Unfortunately, After many many hours of work, the train still does not move across tracks correctly. Sanded, waxed… troubleshooted to my best, but the wheels get stuck and do not propel the engine forward as well as I expected.Any ideas / suggestions to help me correct this problem?
Like all the other ugears models I’ve completed, this one was beautifully created, challenging to complete, rewarding when done, but frustrating to operate. Anything with a transmission in it seems incapable of actually operating - at least not reliably. A couple of times (out of dozens of attempts) the thing has actually run 2-3 feet. Most often, however, there’s no response, then a feeble quarter-turn of the wheels when nudged, then a violent release of all the wound up kinetic energy in less than a second. Sometimes, the release button doesn’t do anything despite being fully depressed. Sometimes it needs to be pushed 3 times before it engages. I’m done trying. It’s not something I want to run continuously anyway. It makes a great decoration on a shelf. I know I did everything right in the assembly - just the assembly illustration was so vague, I had to guess at where exactly it should go. Given how crucial that step was to the entire enterprise, you’d think they’d go out of their way to get the visuals foolproof.
