UGREEN USB C 2.5 Inch Hard Drive Box 50743

I like the thickness of the plastic, the padding on three sides and the fact that the cover clicks in place and that you need to put some effort to open it.What I don't like is the fact that the Ugreen branding and the blue LED light are effectively on the bottom of the unit. What does it mean? It mean that when you put the enclosure on a desk with the LED light facing up, the SATA connecot would effectively be upside down.If you are using the enclosure with a mechanical hard drive, it may bother you.Furthermore, while the enclosure is correctly recognised as "Super Speed Plus" and does indeed work at 10 Gbps when used on PCs with 10Gbps USB ports, sadly if you have a Mac, the speed will be capped at 5 Gbps. I play most of my games straight off my ext ssd and they are about as fast as they would be on the internal drive

I have a couple of these enclosures, one with an SSD the other with an older HDD. Both work fine on Windows and Apple machines.Transfer speeds seemed slow. However, my needs are occasional and modest as these are used for weekly backups not continual use.Drive installation was simple and straightforward.Unlike older enclosures I’ve used, this requires only one USB socket though the lead is quite short.Minor gripe: I fitted rubber feet to the underside to stop the unit sliding about when in use.

You then just close the case and you're done.Some people point SSD owners to this enclosure as they believe the chipset used has more compatibility with newer SSDs. I honestly haven't found SSDs the least bit fussy about which enclosure you use and I have always achieved the maximum theoretical transfer rate, so this enclosure offers no benefit as far as I can see apart from ease of assembly.I've found at least one person the internet suggesting this is the only enclosure to use with the QVO 870 8TB SSD. You need to look at a powered enclosure, or a powered hub/enclosure combination, or perhaps a USB-C enclosure as USB-C sockets can deliver the current required by large capacity SSD drives. Don't get worried about which chipset is being used when you're trying to find one. They all work.I didn't fin this enclosure to be any better made than any other I've tried. I suppose it looks nice with frosted and gloss black sections to the body design, and the long slim activity LED, but it really isn't as sharp-looking as even the cheapest transparent Orico enclosure.Does the job, but it's not "the ultimate enclosure" that some people would have you believe, so I've taken a star off. Buy it if you like the design and you don't mind the price, otherwise you're free to consider every other offering and they'll all do the same job.
