I like the thickness of the plastic, the padding on three sides and the fact that the cover clicks in place and that you need to put some effort to open it.What I don't like is the fact that the Ugreen branding and the blue LED light are effectively on the bottom of the unit. What does it mean? It mean that when you put the enclosure on a desk with the LED light facing up, the SATA connecot would effectively be upside down.If you are using the enclosure with a mechanical hard drive, it may bother you.Furthermore, while the enclosure is correctly recognised as "Super Speed Plus" and does indeed work at 10 Gbps when used on PCs with 10Gbps USB ports, sadly if you have a Mac, the speed will be capped at 5 Gbps. I came across this after a lot of comparison and reviews and decided to for it when they openly declared the ssd controller to be ASM235M (for those who don't know, it means a lot) on top of supporting UASPNow I'm using this with an 8TB samsung 870 qvo ssd which is qlc based, so as long as the ssd gives cache, which is for the initial 42 gbs of data written, this case gives a blazing fast 2.8Gbps (Gigabit/s ~ 350 MBps MegaByte/s)But it can do this in reverse endlessly as when I try to read data from it when there is no bottleneck of writing to a cache to achieve those speeds, it sustains that 2.8Gbps speed all the way without much difficulty. Also, this the only 3.1 gen 2 (equivalent to 3.2 gen 2, stupid usb org and their naming conventions) in this range that I ... MoreI came across this after a lot of comparison and reviews and decided to for it when they openly declared the ssd controller to be ASM235M (for those who don't know, it means a lot) on top of supporting UASPNow I'm using this with an 8TB samsung 870 qvo ssd which is qlc based, so as long as the ssd gives cache, which is for the initial 42 gbs of data written, this case gives a blazing fast 2.8Gbps (Gigabit/s ~ 350 MBps MegaByte/s)But it can do this in reverse endlessly as when I try to read data from it when there is no bottleneck of writing to a cache to achieve those speeds, it sustains that 2.8Gbps speed all the way without much difficulty. Also, this the only 3.1 gen 2 (equivalent to 3.2 gen 2, stupid usb org and their naming conventions) in this range that I could find. There's also the issue with heat dissipation when ssds are put in sustained loads, and this has fairly non airtight design with thinner plastics which helps dissipate the heat quickly rather than allowing the ssd to build up and cook in its own heat.I'm using this with XBOX Series X and it works perfectly. I play most of my games straight off my ext ssd and they are about as fast as they would be on the internal drive

I have a couple of these enclosures, one with an SSD the other with an older HDD. Both work fine on Windows and Apple machines.Transfer speeds seemed slow. However, my needs are occasional and modest as these are used for weekly backups not continual use.Drive installation was simple and straightforward.Unlike older enclosures I’ve used, this requires only one USB socket though the lead is quite short.Minor gripe: I fitted rubber feet to the underside to stop the unit sliding about when in use.

This is a very easy to use enclosure that just slides apart and accepts a 2.5" drive that you just plug inside. You then just close the case and you're done. Some people point SSD owners to this enclosure as they believe the chipset used has more compatibility with newer SSDs. I honestly haven't found SSDs the least bit fussy about which enclosure you use and I have always achieved the maximum theoretical transfer rate, so this enclosure offers no benefit as far as I can see apart from ease of assembly.I've found at least one person the internet suggesting this is the only enclosure to use with the QVO 870 8TB SSD. I don't know how that person got the 8TB QVO to work with this item, as it has a power requirement of 1.4 amp which dwarfs anything available from a ... MoreThis is a very easy to use enclosure that just slides apart and accepts a 2.5" drive that you just plug inside. I don't know how that person got the 8TB QVO to work with this item, as it has a power requirement of 1.4 amp which dwarfs anything available from a USB 3 socket, so this item just doesn't work. You need to look at a powered enclosure, or a powered hub/enclosure combination, or perhaps a USB-C enclosure as USB-C sockets can deliver the current required by large capacity SSD drives. Don't get worried about which chipset is being used when you're trying to find one. They all work.I didn't fin this enclosure to be any better made than any other I've tried. I suppose it looks nice with frosted and gloss black sections to the body design, and the long slim activity LED, but it really isn't as sharp-looking as even the cheapest transparent Orico enclosure.Does the job, but it's not "the ultimate enclosure" that some people would have you believe, so I've taken a star off. Buy it if you like the design and you don't mind the price, otherwise you're free to consider every other offering and they'll all do the same job.

Edit: after replacing the cable with a better one (also USB A to USB C), it does work properly on PS5. No idea why it did work properly on PS4 and PC - intermittent contact in Ugreen cable?I intended to use this enclosure on my PS5 with a 1 TB SATA SSD I had lying around.I formatted the SSD on my PC as exFAT (GPT), but couldn't get it to work on my PS5; the PS5 starts to format it, then fails. I then connected it to my PS4, formatted it, copied Ratchet & Clank on it and played that for a few minutes. On the PS4 (as well as my PC), the enclosure works fine.Connected the enclosure back to the PS5: it now no longer suggests to format it, but it also doesn't work.I took a slightly older Ugreen enclosure (search for 'ugreen 30847', Amazon stills sells that one) ... MoreEdit: after replacing the cable with a better one (also USB A to USB C), it does work properly on PS5. I now have the new enclosure (with a 1 TB FireCuda SSHD) connected to my PS4 and the old enclosure (with the 1 TB SSD) to my PS5 and both work fine.

Note: This is the "older" version, which I opted for after reading reviews here. With the intended drives - SATA HDs and SATA SSDs, this provides all the needed support. I popped in a San Disk Ultra 512gb SSD and got 526/520 sequential reads/writes, which is what this drive is capable of. The TRIM function works properly, and the blue led is easily viewed without being crazy-bright.This is a basic plastic enclosure with a slide and click on cover. It's not a super-durable case, but appropriate for the price & purpose - there are more durable/expensive enclosures for those looking to make highly portable external drives. Using my own USB C to USB C cable, I got the most consistent results, most who would buy this have cables, but I did dock a point for that - otherwise - the UGreen 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure performs exactly as it should.
