Ultimate Ears Boom 3 Night Black Portable Bluetooth Speaker

It sounds great! To be honest, I don't have anything else to compare it to besides laptop speakers, but it gets the job done. Looks and feels very luxurious! It's quite solid, but has soft materials, like silicon (which is a little susceptible to collecting dust) and durable woven fabric. There's a little stiff, fabric hook for hanging and a snug flap to cover the charging port. It does have that new car/tech smell and its strong enough to last a few days, which might annoy some people. And the charger is a fun fettucine shape. But my unit has a weird problem where it will not stay turned on for more than 5 seconds unless I plug it in first, even if it's been charging all night. 1.5 years old and still going strong!

I bought my Boom3 in November of 2020 and it's still setting the right vibes a year and a half later. I've taken it on vacation, to work, on a boat, and basically everywhere in between. It's survived being in a busy kitchen, falling off counters, sliding into sinks, and getting lost in dusty corners. It definitely looks more beat up now than when i first got it, but it wears those scuff marks proudly and continues to play quality music to this day. My friends, coworkers, and family are always surprised at how loud my speaker can get without becoming terribly static-y or losing it's playing quality. I've never had to turn it up to max volume indoors since it's able to fill a room at a comfortable level at less than or at half Volume! I've never had to turn it up to max volume indoors since it's able to fill a room at a comfortable level at less than or at half Volume! The only thing I will say is that the USB charging port is getting finnicky where I have to make sure the light is blinking before leaving it to charge. I used to be able to plug in and leave it without double checking but now I've got to make sure the USB is in all the way before leaving. Honestly, this only takes a few extra seconds out if my day and my speaker still provides hours of good music and great memories. It's hard to find quality technology that isn't made to break these days, but this speaker really defied my expectations and continues to do it's job well.

Good sounds and battery life, power issues

The sound is good for what it is and the battery life is great, however I can only turn it on if all my devices that have a connection to it have their bluetooth turned off which seems like a quality control issue. It will also sometimes connect to my computer then immediately mute my computer's sound. When this happens I can simply turn up the computer volume which turns the sounds back on (obviously) but then my computer volume controls don't operate the speaker's volume, only the speaker volume controls will do that. But sometimes it connects just fine and the computer volume controls are in sync with the speaker and as far as I can tell it has to do with whether I connect the speaker to the computer or the computer to the speaker. Boombox works well. This is my second one though. The first one stopped turning on by itself (had to have the charger cable in, once on, could be removed from charge) within 4 months woth using it less than once a week. Stopped charging all together within 10 months with similar usage. And then compleyely died at 13 months, so i had to buy a new one.Unfortunately (wasnt covered under warranty) they have also gpne up by $60 which i thought was a little steep. Despite being apparently waterproof or water resistant, my boom box bever went in the bathroom or pool etc, i mainly used it when working in my garage. So water damage isnt possible.So far (2 months in with increased use) this new one is going well and holding its charge. Hopefully i just got a faulty one in ... MoreBoombox works well. I bought two of these speakers, I was really happy with the sound and sleek design, I loved the convenience of the app and being able to use the speaker as an alarm clock, turn it on & off via my phone all through the app. It has lots of EQ options and was so easy to pair! It is compact in size and very light in weight too.However I noticed with one of my speakers it was totally water resistant, water ran right off it but the other absorbed it and the sound distorted until it had blasted out 80% of the water through playing music. Thats it.Audio QualityThis is where things gets impressive. For such a small speaker, the sound that comes out of it is unexpected. Vocals can be a little boomy though bass is extremely booming and vibrant. Cranking this thing up to full volume while using outdoors filled my backyard with audio that would make the neighbors mad. I could comfortably listen to music outside with the volume at a 50 level. Indoors was even better. This speaker has a 360 degree speaker array so placing it in the center of a room will bounce sound off of all 4 walls. This little speaker sounds as if you have a multi speaker setup. It easily can hide on a shelf or table making it completely invisible to guests at a party, though the music flowing is impossible to hide.ChargingThis is where things could have been better. The speaker comes packaged with a USB cable for charging, but no wall charger. This requires a computer or other USB charging device to power this back up after it is depleted. It would have been nice to have a USB wall outlet charger to make things easier.Battery LifeOnce fully charged, this things lasts a while. This get about 13 hours of battery life before needing another charge. Plenty for a full 2 works days or entire day at the beach listening.Other FeaturesThis speaker is water proof, so using it by the pool is an option. This thing even floats if it calls into the water, however, do not keep it in the water for long periods of time. Its waterproof rating is 30 minutes fully submerged.There is also the ability to pause tracks by pressing on the top button of the speaker eliminating the need to pickup your phone.Overall this is a great speaker, especially for the outdoors. This makes an excellent companion for the upcoming summer months

It feels sturdy and does indeed float though testing that made me very nervous, there were absolutely no ill effects to function or appearance.Battery lifeNo issues here either. Ive charged the speaker once when I got it and have been using it on and off for a few hours a day without having to charge again. Id accept the claim that the battery will last for at least 13 hours of use between charges.

This is my 3rd pair of Ultimate Ear wireless bluetooth speakers in the last couple weeks. I first tried a pair of Wonderboom 2's. They had problems staying connected. So I returned them for another pair of Wonderboom 2's (hoping it was a problem with one of the speakers I purchased). I had the same problem. So I bought these Boom 3's (two of them) and was pleased that the Party Up feature can keep them paired together after powering off and back on. However, with one speaker about ten feet from my laptop it crackles now and then. I have very few bluetooth devices and my nearest neighbor is over one hundred feet from my house (I cannot even see their wifi network). It's super subtle and hard to tell, but I have a trained ear for such things and when I first started music with the two speakers playing I was like... "is the sound in sync??" With the Wonderboom 2's I didn't have this question at all. It was impossible to tell if one or two speakers were playing. I have the speakers in mono mode, not stereo, so the audio should be identical.As many people reported already, the Party Up feature doesn't always work. It's finicky. Once I got it to work, it worked reliably until now. I'll see how it goes.
