Barry Stroud has since the 1970s been one of the most original contributors to the philosophical study of human knowledge; this volume presents the best of his essays in this area. Author Biography Barry Stroud is Mills Professor of Metaphysics and Epistemology at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of Hume (1977, winner of the Matchette Prize awarded by the American Philosophical Association), The Significance of Philosophical Scepticism (1984), The Quest for Reality (1999), and another volume of philosophical essays, Meaning, Understanding, and Practice (2000).
